LOW-COST airlines like Ryanair and Southwest Airlines have swollen to formidable size in recent years by offering a very different approach to that of more traditional full-service graphics for caribbean cruising airlines. With their single-class seating, range of ancillary charges and pared-down approach to all things aviation-related, these budget carriers have become a familiar, often bemoaned, feature of holidays and business trips around the globe. graphics for caribbean cruising In British airports, for example, more than 50% of all passengers last year squeezed graphics for caribbean cruising into seats on low-cost carriers. But Britain only comes seventh on a list ranking countries on that criterion. Figures released by Amadeus, a global travel distribution system, show that the Philippine aviation market has the greatest proportion of low-cost flyers. In that country of over 7,000 islands, 65% of all passengers used budget carriers graphics for caribbean cruising last year. Cebu Pacific, graphics for caribbean cruising the nation's biggest low-cost operator, boasted over 46% of the domestic market. Among the smallest low-cost markets are Russia, Japan and China, where budget carriers accounted for just 5%, 4% and 1% of departures respectively. In China, the government keeps strict control of the airline graphics for caribbean cruising industry and shields the three main state-controlled carriers (Air China, China Southern and China Eastern) from low-priced competition. Shanghai-based Spring Airlines, which launched in 2005, is the country's graphics for caribbean cruising only low-cost carrier of any size.
Someone please send a budget or even just affordable airline to Canada for domestic and travel to the US - rather than driving graphics for caribbean cruising to US border cities graphics for caribbean cruising to fly out of! Please send Canada airline graphics for caribbean cruising competition(open skies)...and cheap mobile phones internet service while you are at it! Thank-you - A Canadian tired of paying too much to corporate oligarchies!
Can this article truly fairly assess such things objectively? What defines graphics for caribbean cruising LCC? The article said single graphics for caribbean cruising class, but this is unfair, because AirAsiaX has business class, but it is definitely an LCC. In the US, Southwest provides 2 free bags, and free snack. UA provides 0 checked bags (for non-elites) and only pay-for-food on domestic flights. (Including 10 hour EWR-HNL)
Air New Zealand's domestic services are varied per person. You can buy a ticket which includes no checked bags, and no frequent flyer miles, or you can get a ticket which includes choosing your seat and lounge access. graphics for caribbean cruising Each airline is unique, as is each market. And as was said, in China, domestic flights can be less than 800元 return on the "proper airlines" such as Shenzhen, Hainan, Southern China, Eastern China, or Air China.
As a frequent flyer of Chinese airliners, I can testify that all three big State Owner airlines are quite inexpensive -- the typical airfare for a two-hour flight from Beijing to Shanghai is only $120, all tax/surcharge included, you can get even cheaper at $80 if you can fly on odd hours. They're not exactly budget airlines, but pretty darn close ones.
For international they are anything but low cost. Indeed for a recent ticket I bought, they were 25% more expensive than Philippine Airlines and thats before factoring in the luggage and food that are provided "free" on the latter.
Amadeus - are you sure about the growth rates for Africa graphics for caribbean cruising and the Middle East? 2% seems very low given their GDP growth and in the case of the ME capturing of Market share from Asia and European airlines.
graphics for caribbean cruising The Middle East is rapidly growing as a hub and traffic volume between Europe and Asia via the Middle East is growing by approximately 20% between 2011 and 2012, but this is traffic that did not start their journey in the Middle East, they simply connected here to go to another region, so in terms of passenger volume based on origin and destination this traffic can only be attributed to the region where they started their journey.
I think you need to factor in actual graphics for caribbean cruising cost here - Australia shows among the highest percentage of budget flyers, but their 'budget' airlines cost more than most normal ones - For example $900 for a Sydney-Bali return is not my definition of budget (though the quality was, thanks Jetstar!)
Kuta in Bali is the Aussie equivalent of Magaluf for the UK, but it often costs twice as much to fly there (or anywhere) from Australia as it does from an equivalent distance graphics for caribbean cruising in Asia, even on a 'budget' airline.
It just makes sense that budget airline shares a big market in the Philippines with a big population and short travel time between islands. But its amazing how people graphics for caribbean cruising reach out for food the moment they get on board for just an hour flight - this is how Robina Corp makes money (owner of Cebu Pacific)..
In the US, budget airlines can be a bad experience. Some people graphics for caribbean cruising just do not bother to take a shower at all, get on board with their sweats on, fast food on one hand which stinks on the plane. It is a budget airline alright, but some travelers within the US should not make it feel like so..
From my experience, Southwest is about as good as it gets in the US, no matter what price you pay. Their ground and cabin staff are usually customer-friendly and they have a pretty good "on-time" arrival record. That's not to say that flying Southwest is a wonderful and enjoyable experience; I don't think you get that on any US airline anymore, no matter what class of service you fly. United is the worst I've ever endured - their attitude is basically, "Sit down, shut-up graphics for caribbean cruising and don't even think about getting up to pee!"
Barring owning a personal jet; you are travelling graphics for caribbean cruising from A to B in a metal barrel, there is a limited amount of saleable utility increase that can be leveraged to enhance the customer experience, and that they would logically part monies, on a relatively short haul flight.
I could not agree more, I just want a flight and frankly there is little graphics for caribbean cruising in the way of add ons that can stop a five hour flight from being boring. I use Easyjet graphics for caribbean cruising and Ryanair around Europe and they have new clean modern aircraft, are usually on time and have young friendly staff. Just been Amsterdam /Bristol the flight cost was a choice between 63 Euros and nearly 500. I cannot think what I would pay 400 Euros for one hour that could induce me to pick a very dear national carrier!
it only shows how big the industry of budget airlines is in the Philippines right now, and Cebu Pacific will have its expansion all over the world and might able to beat airasia of malaysia and ryan air in the coming years, now that they will have their first long haul flights graphics for caribbean cruising to Dubai, UAE and soon in Australia and Russia.
I agree that American airpots are by and large mediocre, but this was the same survey that ranked graphics for caribbean cruising deathrow, er, Heathrow, in the top 10. Transferring from terminal 5, which is admittedly nice, to any other terminal is a miserable experience, ranking between a tax audit and a root canal.
Also, the taxes one pays for the privilege of flying through London are outrageous. I have noticed that there is often a premium of $100 or more to fly through London compared to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Madrid graphics for caribbean cruising or Paris.

Allegiant began seasonal service from Pease to the Orlando/Sanford airport in October 2005. Passenge
PORTSMOUTH Allegiant Air announced Tuesday it is bringing passenger service back to Portsmouth International Airport at Pease. The commercial airline will offer flights to and from Sanford, Fla., beginning Oct. 25.
Allegiant, which served Pease in the past, ending in 2007, said it will offer fares as low as $99 round trip or $69 one way as a promotional rate. The flights will operate twice weekly, Mondays and Fridays, between Portsmouth and Orlando Sanford International Airport. Flights depart Portsmouth at 6:30 p.m., and Orlando at 3 p.m.
The new passenger service at Pease was announced baltimore hotel Tuesday morning during a special news conference at the local air terminal. Several local officials, business leaders and members of the media were in attendance for the event.
David Mullen, executive director of the Pease Development Authority, said the process of bringing Allegiant baltimore hotel back to Pease involved a full-time effort that included multiple trips to Las Vegas to visit with officials as well as offering a "no fee" incentive to the airline.
"Allegiant is a very successful airline baltimore hotel and we are really excited to have them bring scheduled service to Portsmouth. I am confident that with convenient and affordable flights baltimore hotel to Florida, the service will be very popular," Mullen said.
Fortnam, who was hired specifically to entice passenger service back to Pease, said the goal moving forward is to potentially expand the relationship with Allegiant and attract more services to the airport as well. Fortnam said international passenger service could also be in the cards sometime down the road.
The $99 round-trip promotional fare will be available for three days and must be purchased baltimore hotel by Aug. 22, Allegiant said. Subsequent introductory fares will start at $69 one way and will be available until Aug. 27. Reservations can be made at www.allegiantair.com or by calling baltimore hotel (702) 505-8888. Tickets will also be on sale at the local air terminal.
Allegiant began seasonal service from Pease to the Orlando/Sanford airport in October 2005. Passenger numbers from October 2005 to September 2006 totaled 41,504 with four flights per week, while November 2006 to April 2007 reflected 10,366 passengers flying two flights per week.
Since it was certified as a commercial airport in 1992, the Pease airport has been home to five airlines ranging from Business Express early on to Pan Am and, most recently, Skybus, which ceased operations in 2008.
However, the last attempt to secure a passenger service in September 2011 failed to get off the ground. Streamline LLC was slated to be the first commercial carrier at the airport since Skybus. It announced plans for initial service between Portsmouth and Trenton, N.J., and potentially to Atlantic baltimore hotel City, N.J., but ended up backing out of the deal.
While Tuesday's event was meant to focus on the future baltimore hotel partnership between Allegiant and Pease, Mullen revealed that more could be on the way at the local airport. Mullen said the air terminal is in talks with other airlines as well.

I have the most success with fares when I book as early as possible. My plans are often really infle
A few months ago, I was speaking with the folks from Singapore Airlines and we ended up talking about the public perception of the cost of airfare. Everyone is always looking for the cheapest flight. And while there are ways to get cheaper airfare , the age of rock bottom prices are simply over. If you ve been flying for at least the past few years, you might have noticed ticket prices, even the cheapest ones, seem to be going up and up. Save some flash sale or price war, consumers are simply paying a lot more than they used to. If you really want rock bottom prices, you'll need to invent princess cruise lines home page a time machine and go back ten years. (Don't forget to take me with you!)
But that conversation inspired me to sit down and write this post. Since ticket pricing is complicated, I want to take some time out to explain princess cruise lines home page why the hell your airline ticket costs so goddamn much as well as let you know a few tricks to making it cheaper.
Ticket princess cruise lines home page prices are high today for a number of reasons. For starters, the industry has consolidated a lot over the last few years. Less competition means less need for cheaper prices. Thanks to bankruptcies and mergers now there are only 4 major airlines in the US (soon to be three when American merges with US Airways). In Canada, you have 2. In Europe, KLM and Air France are now one company, and Lufthansa has its hands in many smaller airlines. (While budget airlines keep prices cheap within Europe, once you leave the continent, those 10 Euro prices disappear!) As airlines princess cruise lines home page have partnered up, merged, or gone bankrupt, there is little incentive or need to create low fares to win your business.
Secondly, the price of airline fuel has increased tremendously . Back in 1996, airline fuel cost 55 cents per gallon. Now, it's $2.97 per gallon. Airlines can't absorb all of that increase, so they pass some of that on to the consumer, leading to higher fares.
US APHIS User fee of $5, US International Transportation Tax of $16.30 per arrival or departure; and Foreign Government security/tourism/airport/international transportation taxes and fees of up to $290 (varies widely by destination and fluctuates with exchange rates).
Moreover, following 9/11 and the recession, demand fell and to compensate, airlines reduced both the number of routes they offered and the frequency of their flights. They did this to save money and fly fuller planes. Fuller planes mean more passenger revenue and fewer costs for the airline. It's why if you live far from a major city you've seen fares go up and the number of flights go down. Planes fly close to full now and airlines are quite happy about that.
With fewer planes, less competition, and higher capacity, airlines can charge a lot more for tickets. There's nothing to stop them and they don't need to lower prices. United CEO Jeff Smisek said that only now are airfares priced appropriately . When you have a CEO say something like that, it means prices are not going to go down anymore, but only up.
Prices go up and down for many reasons. No one can really predict when or if a price is going to go up or down. Only the airline knows that. But there are four things that drive prices: competition, supply, demand, and oil prices. The first and last items are the ones that really affect prices princess cruise lines home page the most.
Together, those four things all affect a lovely thing called load factor. Airlines want to fill their planes and maximize profits, and they do this by calculating a plane's load factor. Essentially, this is the percentage of seats sold on a flight. They want this number to be as high as possible.
Airlines tend to manage their load factor by constantly changing the price of tickets to fill the plane and get maximum revenue. On a U.S. domestic ticket, a flight might have 10-15 different price points, according to Rick Seaney.
In the airline industry, there are two types of passengers: business travelers and leisure passengers. Business travelers are flexible on price (the boss is paying) but not on dates. princess cruise lines home page Leisure travelers aren't flexible on price (the cheaper the better) but are on dates.
Airlines know that a certain number of people will book far in advance if they can find a decent price. Airlines also know that they need to hold a certain number of seats for business travelers who will book last-minute and pay more.
As Scott Mayerowitz, airline reporter for the Associated Press , says, "To maximize their profit, airlines developed sophisticated computer systems princess cruise lines home page that constantly compare booking trends to past sales history. If tickets are selling faster than in the past, the price rises. If a competitor raises fares, the airline will probably raise theirs too."
It s not impossible to find a cheaper ticket. Am I going to find that $500 roundtrip fare to Europe? Maybe if I get extremely lucky but typically not. Heck, you can sometimes fly to Asia for the price it costs to fly to London!
One trick to not being the person princess cruise lines home page who paid the most for your ticket is to be flexible. As I said, airlines are constantly changing prices and trying to balance leisure and business travelers; they ll do their best to avoid having customers pay the lowest price point.
"About three months before, airlines start to manage those bottom price points," Rick says. That means airlines begin to look at historical trends and current seat sales to figure out whether they will release princess cruise lines home page those really rock bottom fares or keep prices high.
If you are booking inside a month, you are playing princess cruise lines home page into the airline's hand. As Rick pointed out to me, the bulk of the tickets are sold within 30 days of departure. Booking that late is a bad idea. At that point, airlines know they have you. When your dates are no longer flexible, you'll pay whatever they charge.
To quote Scott again: "The days of routinely flying from New York to San Francisco for $99 each way are long gone. That said, there are occasional fare wars when airlines like Virgin America or Spirit enter a new market. Airlines will also still deeply discount flights when traffic is low, such as winter flights to Europe. The catch is: travelers need to be flexible about when they fly. ITA Software s airfare search provides a calendar of the lowest fares on given routes. It's a great way to find the best fares, if you have some flexibility."
And, while there are many other tricks to reduce the cost of your ticket , the main two are flexibility and flying when demand is low. That means avoiding flying on Monday, Friday, or Sunday, flying mid-week, and taking early morning or really late flights.
The days of cheap airfares are long over. They aren't coming back and the prices princess cruise lines home page you see now are the new normal for airline tickets. They are simply going to cost a lot more, especially if you don't find the sweet spot when prices are their lowest. But by understanding how tickets are priced, you can avoid being the person who paid the most.
Taxes are awful, and I ve started adjusting where I go based on airport taxes. Take the Caribbean: taxes to Puerto Rico are $5 but over $100 for the Dominican Republic. Same beaches, same ocean. (The DR is cheaper overall, so it might make sense to get that pricier ticket if for a longer trip).
I have the most success with fares when I book as early as possible. My plans are often really inflexible because of my work schedule, so I need to leave at specific times. When I book really early, I m more likely princess cruise lines home page to cheaper seats at the exact time I need to leave. Yes, I miss out on last minute fare sales, but the fare sales often don t work with my schedule anyway.
Kay, I ve done a lot of research on taxes and fees. In my recommendations for finding cheap flights, I tell people to consider taxes when flying. princess cruise lines home page The more airports you fly into, the more you will pay. Sometimes it may be cheaper to break up your flight into segments.
I did an entire feature on taxes and fees (see my comment below) and was quoted in The Washington Post in an article about airline taxes. People now see the total costs of their flights princess cruise lines home page (rather than just the airline advertised price) but I still don t think people really understand princess cruise lines home page the impact taxes and fees can have.
Thanks for pulling all this together Matt and explaining it. Those free credit card frequent flyer miles you talk about in your book are even more valuable to help offset higher fares. Your advice helped when I received a 35,000 signup bonus in the mail and decided to act on it. Thanks Matt!
Thanks for this really in-depth, informative post, Matt; I really learned a lot about how tickets are priced (and got a little depressed princess cruise lines home page that they're going to stay at high prices). Guess it's time for me to start researching travel hacking haha!
I remember when I was able to fly RT to Buenos Aires for a mere $600 back in 2008. Today, I only see offers for double that price (or higher!). We can pretend to beat the system and be smarter than airlines, but reality is that the joke is on us this time around. Still, pretty informative article.
Great information, Matt. I was surprised princess cruise lines home page when 60% of the cost of my flight to Croatia last month was taxes. Maybe that cost will go down once there are direct flights from USA to Croatia (one less European airport the airlines have to pay).
This was an interesting read and a good thing to keep in mind while buying tickets and trying to not get frustrated over prices. I know in my brain that fuel and taxes cause the prices to go higher, but then I remember when I was 19(*only* 13 years ago), I flew to London(from Chicago) for $200. Sure it was in January, but it was $200!
When I was in college in the early 00s I would see STA advertising $200 NYC-London flights every winter. When I was studying abroad, I walked into an STA office princess cruise lines home page in Germany around Thanksgiving princess cruise lines home page and bought a round trip ticket home over Christmas for about $350. Round trip! I don t recall the routing being particularly princess cruise lines home page inconvenient either.
Good article. I use Kayak to compare prices as it ll show you the prices up to three days on eithe

The Saturday Six is a weekly look at the most interesting, most fun, and sometimes even the most outrageous things within the theme park world we all love so much. Whether it's the top six attraction queues, the top six food options at Fast Food Blvd, or even the top six mini-golf courses, the Saturday Six will be your personal guide to experiencing the very best Orlando discount car rentals in san diego has to offer.
This week's Saturday Six includes the Top Six "Secrets" of the Loews Portofino Hotel at Universal. The Portofino is one of three current onsite hotels at Universal, along with the Loews Royal Pacific Resort and the Hard Rock Hotel . If you were to compare them to the various hotels at Walt Disney World, they would all fall into the Deluxe category, but you would often be paying discount car rentals in san diego a price for a room that Disney would have in the Moderate level of resorts.
The perks of staying onsite discount car rentals in san diego at Universal far exceed anything you would receive at WDW as all hotel guests at the Portofino, Royal Pacific and Hard Rock receive complimentary Universal Express Unlimited , as well as early access to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Islands of Adventure throughout the year. (This summer, hotel guests also get early access to Transformers and Despicable Me at the Universal Studios Florida park.) There is also the fact that all three hotels are within discount car rentals in san diego walking distance (with very lushly themed walkways) discount car rentals in san diego to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Universal CityWalk.
Steven Spielberg can be considered one of the main "architects" of the entire Universal Orlando Resort. Universal Studios Florida, the park that started it all, heavily depends on films that Spielberg either directed ( Jaws , E.T. ) or was a producer discount car rentals in san diego on (Back to the Future , Twister , Transformers ). While the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is the current draw to Islands of Adventure, it's Spielberg's Jurassic Park that sits directly in the middle, and the iconic JP visitor center is the first thing you see in the park when coming out of the Port of Entry. It's only natural that when Universal was putting together discount car rentals in san diego Islands of Adventure that they would pick Spielberg's brain about ideas for the new onsite hotel they would also be developing.
Spielberg s suggestion was for the new hotel to be inspired discount car rentals in san diego by the classic feel of Portofino, Italy. Loews took that idea and ran with it, faithfully recreating a classic Mediterranean fishing village by the lagoon, as well as representing the luxury of many high end Italian hotels discount car rentals in san diego on the inside of the resort. Portofino Bay can be considered the flagship resort of Loews at Universal.
Many people like to travel with their pets, and unfortunately not a single room at any of Walt Disney World's 25-plus hotels is pet friendly. Each of Universal's onsite hotels is pet friendly, discount car rentals in san diego including Portofino discount car rentals in san diego Bay. And when we say "pet friendly," we mean all pets: dogs, cats, iguanas, or whatever member of the family you can't bear to leave behind on your vacation. discount car rentals in san diego There is a separate area of the hotel dedicated to pet friendly rooms, and the fee is $50 a day with a cap of $150. So if you spend 3 days or 21 days with a pet, you'll pay a total of $150.
While the Royal Pacific Resort on Universal property discount car rentals in san diego has an excellent area dedicated for pets, Portofino Bay has expansive walkways throughout the resort to take your animals on walks. There are waste pick-up stations along the way, and it's pretty amazing how much space is around the resort in which you can take your pet (or just go for a relaxing stroll yourself). Believe it or not, there is also a section for cat and dog items in the room service menu. Now, I love Sebastian – my 13 year old Yorkshire Terrier – as much as any person has ever loved any dog, but that will be the day .
If you're like me, you've only seen bocce ball on TV or in the movies. It joins other sporting events like polo and cricket that I have never come across in the real world. Portofino Bay has an actual bocce ball court for you to play a game. Located next to the Villa Pool area, this is an especially quiet and relaxing area of the resort to spend your time. While it's rumored that the court will be changed into something different down the road (my suggestion would be to have an outdoor coffee/espresso station with seating), I like that it brings a unique discount car rentals in san diego flavor of Italy here to Orlando.
I have been to many hotels in my day and have spent time in a lot of jacuzzis, but it was Portofino Bay that finally showed me the "wow factor." Now this is how you relax. There are various hot tubs around discount car rentals in san diego the resort, but my favorites are the elaborately themed discount car rentals in san diego ones near the Beach Pool. With great rock work and actual waterfalls discount car rentals in san diego flowing down into the tub, Portofino Bay has created an area takes hot tubbing to the next level. I'm not even sure if hot tubbing is even an actual word, but that's how great this experience is. It actually defies the English language!
You've spent a day at the parks under the hot Florida sun, you've bought your kids all the merchandise and churros they wanted, and you've come back to find out your dog has ordered room service…No worries, once you spend some time in these hot tubs all your stress will melt away.
A common rule of thumb when it comes to hotels is this: the better the hotel, the better dining experience you will have. Disney's Deluxe hotels have some of the absolute best places to eat in the WDW resort. The Grand Floridan has Victoria Albert s. The Polynesian has ′Ohana. The Animal Kingdom Lodge has Jiko and Boma. Portofino Bay also has some truly exceptional dining experiences, with BiCE and my personal favorite: Mama Della's Ristorante discount car rentals in san diego .
Besides the wonderful food, what makes Mama Della's so special is the entire story behind the restaurant and the theming inside. The backstory is that at one point Mama Della couldn't afford to open her own restaurant, but she loved making food for everyone. Many people started to bring their tables and dishware so that "Mama" could fulfill her dream. It's actually pretty interesting to walk through the restaurant (which is deceptively expansive) and see that every single room has different wall paper and that all the tables and chairs are completely different from each other.
When I go to Orlando, whether it's at the parks themselves or at the onsite hotels, when it comes to eating I'm generally looking for good food at a good price. However, there are the rare times that the theming of a restaurant bump the entire experience to the next level. Recently I've had that type of feeling discount car rentals in san diego at Be Our Guest at the Magic Kingdom, Mythos at Islands of Adventure, Fast Food Blvd at Universal (it doesn't have to be fine dining to be incredibly well themed), and now Mama Della's at Portofino.
There are themed pools, and then there are themed pools ; this is the latter. Joining the best pools in Orlando along with Stormalong Bay at Disney's Yacht Beach Club and Loews s own Royal Pacific Resort pool, the Beach Pool at Portofino Bay is the type of pool area where you can spend an entire day of your Orlando vacation. It's insane ! A sandy beach area. An elaborate castle-like themed structure that has a long water slide at the top. Tons of rock work that you get to swim around, giving many "quiet" areas like you would find at Royal Pacific's pool.
Around the Beach Pool is a rather large area for kids to play in that has several interactive elements. There is a fully stocked pool bar with a ton of food options. Ping pong, billiards, the awesome Jacuzzis we talked about above, this is truly The One Pool To Rule Them All. If your family is anything like my family, discount car rentals in san diego it doesn't matter how good Transformers: The Ride-3D and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey are, once the kids see this pool, they are going to want to stay in it as long as possible.
discount car rentals in san diego There are also two other pools at Portofino discount car rentals in san diego Bay. The Villas pool, which could be considered a "quiet" discount car rentals in san diego pool but is themed better than any other quiet pool you've ever seen (it also has a lot more cabanas to rent, along with a full changing station with lockers for people checking into the hotel early whose rooms are not ready). There is also a third even quieter pool by the east wing of the resort that is more similar to the standard quiet pools you see at most hotels.
So there you have it. The top six secrets of the Loews Portofino Bay hotel at Universal. discount car rentals in san diego We didn't even get into the incredible Mandara spa, the nightly "Musica Della Notte" opera singing, the fact that Sal's market has possibly the best pizza on property, or all the amazing quiet areas you'll find throughout the resort if you take a walk around. Stay tuned for my full review of what has possibly become my favorite hotel in Orlando (and if you know how much I love the Royal Pacific Resort, you'll understand what that's saying!).
The Portofino Bay is awesome! I love how you can pool hop(it s even encouraged) to any of the pools if you are an on site guest. It s true about the kids not wanting to leave, my son was about 4 the first time we swam there and we did not schedule enough time . when we told him we had to leave, he threw a big fit!

For the extreme park-goers like myself, it is hard to leave the park before closing. Unfortunately, there are only so many places you can go for a fourth meal at 12:00am european travel tours after relaxing european travel tours a bit in the hotel. After calling around, we finally found out that The Kitchen, located at the Hard Rock Hotel on the Universal property, was still open. Since it was so late, we were not really expecting european travel tours anything special. We have been here before for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but we have not been here for a while, so we were excited to pay another visit here.
We arrived european travel tours to the restaurant, and surprisingly, there were a few people dining (guess they had a long day at Universal as well). Our waiter came and was immediately very polite and helpful, regardless of the time. With our drinks, he brought out the basket of bread. Even though it is just a basket of bread, it was absolutely amazing. european travel tours In the basket, there was a huge variety of bread, crackers, and things of the like. Usually when I ask for olive oil for my bread, it takes about five to ten minutes, even if there is not a lot of people in the restaurant. european travel tours He brought the olive oil in about two minutes, which I thought was very impressive.
Taking our order, I informed him on my dietary restrictions (I am a vegan), and he recommended a Pasta Primavera with marinara sauce. My father ordered the Penne Pasta Florentine, and my brother ordered the Margarita Flatbread. Along with the helpfulness, our waiter also always kept a smile and was very funny and personable (I would recommend him by name but I actually forgot the name).
The food came out relatively quickly (about twenty minutes). My pasta was very tasty, and the sauce was practically perfect. european travel tours The vegetables were fresh and the noodles were boiled to perfection. According to my father, his pasta was also superb. He added chicken to his dish, which he said added a lot of flavor but was not completely necessary. He really enjoyed the flavor of the dish. My brother was very satisfied with the flatbread. It was basically a pizza, but a really good one at that. He stated that the cheese was perfectly melted, and it needed european travel tours no extra cheese or salt. We were all very happy with our meals.
Oh, by the way, character dining at The Kitchen is currently european travel tours scheduled for Saturday nights from 6:00pm 9:00pm. If you d like to see more photos of The Kitchen, including photos of the breakfast buffet, visit the OI Universal Center s Hard Rock Hotel: Dining lounges page. Have fun!

During the last year my girlfriend and I have started to watch a lot of shows on Food Network . She's a big fan of Sweet Genius and Restaurant Stakeout, while I'm drawn to Man vs. Food. I have become completely fascinated with the idea of eating challenges (while my girlfriend remains horrified). airline tickets cheap last minute for student Imagine my surprise when I found out a theme park restaurant was offering up a challenge. This was combining two of favorite things in life: Universal Orlando Resort and the idea of eating an insane amount of food in a short period of time.
This summer The Kitchen at the Hard Rock Hotel in Orlando started up "The Kitchen Sink Challenge." To complete the challenge, you must consume a Kitchen Burger airline tickets cheap last minute for student (usually a 10 oz patty, but vegetarians can request a veggie burger patty replacement), a side of french fries, a fried pickle, airline tickets cheap last minute for student and a slice of The Kitchen Sink Cake, all within a 30 minute time limit. Not too bad, right? Did I mention the Kitchen Sink Cake is "a 3 pound slice of cake with seven layers of heaven including – brownies, airline tickets cheap last minute for student peanut butter crunch, chocolate chunk cookies, cheesecake, airline tickets cheap last minute for student pecan pie, devil's food cake, vanilla chiffon cake, all covered in chocolate butter cream frosting, chocolate chips, chocolate sauce, and heath bar crunch; served with vanilla bean ice cream." That description neglects to include the two giant strawberries and various pieces of artistic chocolate decorating the cake.
Kenny and I discussed The Challenge every day for weeks, trying to come up with techniques which would enable us to overcome this seemingly Herculean task. There's a famous phrase airline tickets cheap last minute for student from boxing legend Joe Louis that goes, "everyone has a plan until they get hit," and I can add to that by saying every plan we had in our minds went out the window when the food came out.
I knew the Kitchen burger and the Kitchen Sink cake were big, but I guess I didn't realize how big until they were sitting in front of us. The manager on duty, Junior, was our official time keeper. When we began the competition, Kenny literally airline tickets cheap last minute for student devoured the Kitchen burger in two minutes. It was a scene straight out of a cartoon. Just amazing. The Cookie Monster would be jealous how fast Kenny plowed through a burger close to the size of a human head. I went a different route, I ate bites of my burger, fries, and cake in rapid succession.
At the 8:00 minute mark, all Kenny had left to go was the Kitchen Sink cake. What slowed airline tickets cheap last minute for student him down, and what I agree is probably the biggest hurdle airline tickets cheap last minute for student in The Challenge, is the fried pickle. While the pickle itself wouldn't seem nearly as intimidating as the huge burger or slice of cake, it's essentially like eating airline tickets cheap last minute for student a big, warm cucumber. I also saved the fried pickle for after I had already finished my burger, fries, ice cream and some of the cake. At about the 12:00 minute mark all I had left was my slice of cake as well.
While gorging on the cake, Kenny hit The Wall at about the 16:00 mark and really began to slow down. If Kenny had a thought balloon above his head like you see in the Toon Lagoon it would surely say, "mistakes airline tickets cheap last minute for student were made."
I kept going forward. While I wouldn't say I was full, I was finding it almost impossible to chew or swallow anywhere near as fast as I knew I needed airline tickets cheap last minute for student to. The closest thing I can describe it to is "quicksand for the mouth." The more cake I put in, the slower my mouth was moving to chew it. And no matter how much water I drank, I just couldn't swallow it fast enough. I think it was the massive amount of chocolate that enveloped the cake that was creating this cement-like mixture in my mouth.
When Junior announced the two minute time limit, I think many in the group watching thought I was going to be able to accomplish the impossible and defeat The Challenge. But I knew there was no chance. As little as there was left on my plate, there was no way I could chew through it fast enough. I kept going though, subconsciously hoping there would be clock malfunction giving me the two extra minutes I would need to finish the plate.
Kenny admits to thoughts of being nauseous while eating, but neither airline tickets cheap last minute for student of us "refunded" any of the meal afterwards or later that night. However, airline tickets cheap last minute for student while I've never been pregnant, I'm pretty sure I can say I know what it feels like to walk around with a 7 pound living being in your stomach. The walk to the hotel room was a long one, and I was useless for the rest of the night. I laid on the bed, half of me wondering if I ever wanted to eat food again, and the other half trying airline tickets cheap last minute for student to figure out what I need to do in order to defeat The Challenge next time.
The next day, an amazing fruit and cheese platter showed up at our hotel room, courtesy of Jennifer Hodges of Lowes Hotels at Universal. The card attached asked if we could conquer airline tickets cheap last minute for student the fruit and cheeses. The answer: Yes, Yes We Can.
Everyone in our party came away from The Kitchen very impressed with the menu, as it also had good items for the vegetarians and vegans airline tickets cheap last minute for student with us. Both Kenny and I give a glowing recommendation to The Kitchen Burger, something both of us want to try again, this time to savor it rather than trying to eat it like the Cookie Monster. In fact, two other members of our party got The Kitchen Burger as their entrée and were more than satisfied (although they couldn't finish it in one sitting, let alone in two minutes like Kenny). We also think the slice of Kitchen Sink Cake just may be the best slice of cake we've ever had, although we definitely advise to eat the slice with four or five other people.
Despite defeat, Kenny and I are steadfast in our belief that we can defeat The Kitchen Sink Challenge. This was our first-ever eating challenge, and we're confident that we can figure out what went wrong, airline tickets cheap last minute for student correct that problem, and become victors.

He regularly travels to what he considers his second home, Orlando, while his girlfriend wishes he had the same passion airline tickets cheap last minute for student for Hawaii.
Thanks for the info bud. I've been looking for eating challenges airline tickets cheap last minute for student in the orlando airline tickets cheap last minute for student area as I am coming over from U.K. next year for vacation. I will definetely give this a go as I think I can do this (I love my food). Do you know of any others?
1. According to their menu , the Kitchen Burger is $16. Unfortunately they don't have the price of their desserts on the menu, but I'm guessing the piece of cake, given its size, is around the same price. airline tickets cheap last minute for student So let's say $30 to $35 plus tax, plus a drink if you want something other than water.
airline tickets cheap last minute for student Wow, if only we had known about this during our visits. We're always airline tickets cheap last minute for student looking for a food challenge like this, would have been awesome. Applauds to both of you for your hard work! The thought of having to get up and walk anywhere after that however does make me happy we didn't know about this. Just reading about it and knowing how horrible it can feel to have to stand up and walk away after a huge meal like that makes me cringe, ugh. You deserve airline tickets cheap last minute for student an award for that alone!
Dan, for about a week Kenny tried "stretching" his stomach out by eating abnormally large meals. I really didn't do much different other than not eating anything at all the day of The Challenge (we went at 7PM)

After our Disney Dream Cruise a few weeks ago, we headed to Universal Orlando for a few days to take on a whole new adventure! The folks at Universal Orlando treated my family to 2-day park tickets, as well as a 2 night stay at the Hard Rock Hotel .
For us, hotels and resorts are a big part of the vacation experience, so we were thrilled charleston us government employee travel to have the opportunity to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel on Universal Orlando property. charleston us government employee travel My older son and I had enjoyed the Loews Royal Pacific Resort (another Universal Orlando hotel) a couple years back, so we knew the Hard Rock would be nothing short of amazing.
We arrived at the Hard Rock Hotel fairly early in the day, around 10:00 am, so our rooms were not quite ready. (check-in is at 4:00 pm) We could, however, get our room key card, which enabled us to take the express line at both Universal parks. This is a HUGE perk that makes staying at a Universal Orlando worth every penny, charleston us government employee travel especially charleston us government employee travel when you have younger children who have little patience waiting in long lines.
Once we received our key card, we headed out to the Universal Orlando parks to enjoy a day of fun in the sun! The Hard Rock Hotel offers a water taxi to and from the parks, which is a nice, free option, but we decided to take a pedicab so that we could get right on (no wait time). Plus, pedicabs are way fun for the kids!
We decided to explore Islands of Adventure charleston us government employee travel first (post on the parks coming up soon!) so that we could see the Harry Potter section. (something my oldest son and I missed our first time to Universal) We spent several hours at the park and around 1:00 pm, I received a text message on my cell phone that our room was ready! It came at a good time, too, because it was starting to get a little charleston us government employee travel warm out and we all needed a break/nap.
The first thing I wanted to do was take a shower, so I hopped into the bathroom while my kiddos and hubby relaxed on the beds and watched television. After I stepped out of the tub, I heard my kids yelling, Mom, you just got something cool!
The chocolate snack tray was a lovely charleston us government employee travel gesture from the Hard Rock Hotel and made the perfect afternoon snack. I love special moments like these, especially when it includes chocolate. After a bit of relaxing, my husband and kids went down to the AMAZING pool area for a little dip.
While the family was at the pool, I picked up a Starbucks coffee (yes, they have a Starbucks in the hotel) and walked around the premises to take in the decor and shopping. Of course, the hotel was full of rock memorabilia, which makes it quite the cool history museum. There was also popular rock music playing in the common areas, which had guests singing and dancing in throughout the hotel.
charleston us government employee travel That evening, we were all pooped, so we ordered charleston us government employee travel room service for dinner. (one of my favorite things to do when staying at a hotel!) Our order was delivered within 30 minutes and was plenty hot. (something that doesn t always happen with room service) My husband and I ordered bacon hamburgers that were thick, juicy and full of flavor. Probably one of the best burgers I have ever tasted! The kids had chicken fingers and devoured them within minutes. After dinner, we were officially toast and passed out.
The next morning, we didn t get up in time to enjoy the early entry time at the parks (another perk to staying on property), so we took our time getting ready and headed down to The Kitchen, a restaurant within the Hard Rock Hotel. The Kitchen was serving a breakfast buffet with a huge selection of food, so we decided that would be the best option. (the kids love buffets because they get to pick and choose themselves) The buffet was delicious, hot, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. charleston us government employee travel Once we filled our bellies, we headed out to Universal Studios!
After spending a few hours at Universal Studios, we headed back to the Hard Rock Hotel. Once back at the hotel, we set up a reservation for our youngest son to visit Camp Lil Rock so that my husband, oldest son and myself could see The Hunger Games at the AMC theater in Universal CityWalk that evening. We found out that Camp Lil Rock moves between the 3 Universal Orlando resorts each night, and that evening the camp would be located at the Lowes Portofino Bay Resort, which was a short drive from the Hard Rock Hotel. (there is complimentary transportation between hotels if you do not have a vehicle) Drop-off was easy and my family had a ton of fun enjoying the Universal CityWalk and movie! It was the perfect way to spend our last night in Orlando.

Being the poor college graduate that I am, all my visits to Universal Orlando sedona arizona jeep tours have included accommodations at an off-site hotel. However, recently I had the very fortunate opportunity to stay on-site at Hard Rock Hotel. sedona arizona jeep tours Let me tell you, staying there made the trip ten times better than I was expecting! Now I submit to you that it is the very best way to experience Universal Orlando Resort, and in this post I ll explain why.
If it had simply been me and one other friend, we never would have been able to afford two nights at the Hard Rock. But, a group splitting sedona arizona jeep tours around $400 per night five ways makes things a lot easier to handle. Two people per bed and one person (normally a gallant male) can sleep on a blow-up bed, which can easily fit between the beds and the dresser.
I have always called myself a rock fan, ever since I boogied down to Last Dance with Mary Jane at the age of four. The amount of rock memorabilia in the hotel, even down to the framed photos in every room, assured me that I had chosen the right place to stay. In fact, Hard Rock advertises that its Orlando hotel has over $1 million worth of rock n roll memorabilia on display.
The guitar-laden fountain in front of the hotel, seen above, is also incredibly awesome. If I ever get married, even if the wedding isn't in Orlando, I want a bride and groom picture in front of that thing. That's how awesome it is.
The second morning of my stay, three members of my party were still sleeping, thus making us miss the early admission discussed in the previous paragraph (shame on them!). To kill time, my friend Brittany and I made our way down to The Kitchen restaurant sedona arizona jeep tours for some breakfast. This was one of the best breakfast buffets I have ever seen. They had some of everything: fruit, muffins, hash browns, bacon, every kind of egg you can think of (including an omelet station, where the chef made your omelet literally however you wanted it), and an entire table dedicated to sweets, including donuts, cookies, and little shot glasses filled with different kinds of chocolate.
My favorite thing about it is the ability to hear the music they're playing underwater. It was really a thrill to hear Gimme Shelter by the Rolling Stones when I went beneath the surface. The lifeguards also gave me tips about the best places to hear it (hint: one of them is near the stairs, where you can barely stand with your head above water). The slide is cool and fun for kids and adults alike. It's really good exercise running around the winding trail and up the stairs to make it to the top, and the trip down is twisty, relaxing, and much longer than you would expect. The hot tubs were a great place to hang out after some time in the pool, and a great place to meet other people staying in the hotel. We met people from Los Angeles, and had a really great conversation about the theme parks in California versus the theme parks in Orlando.
sedona arizona jeep tours After a day at Universal's parks, the walk to the parking garage can be a dreaded experience. The trek is long and crowded, and it is quite easy to spend ten minutes looking for your car on legs unsteady from walking all day. The on-site hotels take care of this problem quite easily. Simply go down to the docks in CityWalk sedona arizona jeep tours after your fun-filled day, and get in the line for the hotel you're staying in.
We never had to wait more than ten minutes for a boat (all with fun movie and music related names, like the 'Take Two') to come around the corner and take us to the back door of the Hard Rock. This was a godsend. We were able to sit and relax on our way home instead of making that awful walk back to our car.
I had always thought of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter as an eternally busy place, but that was before I stayed on-site. Early admission makes all the difference: you get to walk the streets of Hogsmeade nearly on your own, you get to hop right onto an enchanted bench on the Forbidden Journey in a mythical wait time of ten minutes. Staying on-site gives you this fantastic perk and it is definitely sedona arizona jeep tours something you should experience at least once.
NEW THIS SUMMER: July 1 through September 2 Universal on-site and vacation package guests receive Early Park Admission to Universal Studios Florida to ride Transformers one hour before the general public. Despicable Me Minion sedona arizona jeep tours Mayhem will also be open.
This is the reason most people want to stay on-site, and I completely agree with them. It is a fantastic perk for something that is pricey on its own, and it helps you make the most of your trip. The Express Pass cuts down on wait times significantly. What could have been a forty minute wait to ride the Hulk turned into a five minute wait for three different rides. The only attractions not included when I was staying on-site were Forbidden Journey, Pteranodon Flyers and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. sedona arizona jeep tours But now that the musical rollercoaster Rockit has been included in the lineup, and Transformers is expected to be too once it opens, I have another reason why I need to stay on-site again!
Also, since I had never used the Express Pass before, I was presented with areas that I hadn't sedona arizona jeep tours seen in my previous visits to Orlando, sedona arizona jeep tours such as the darkroom where Spider-Man develops his photos, or the hallway with all the alien posters on Men in Black. It's always cool to skip the lines and discover something new in the process.
Some people look at the prices sedona arizona jeep tours for Universal's on-site hotels and immediately rule out the idea of staying there. I say that if you can get it to fit in your budget, you have to stay on-site at least once. All the perks make it worth the cost, and they make your trip even more of a success than if you had stayed anywhere else.
Keep in mind that the Early Park Admission, unlimited Express Pass access, and complimentary water taxi service are benefits sedona arizona jeep tours included when staying at any of Universal s deluxe on-site hotels: Portofino Bay Hotel, Hard Rock Hotel or Royal Pacific Resort.

TPG Managing Editor Eric Rosen has a background as a food and wine writer and has covered wine regions all over the globe including Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Austria and many of those in his native California, so we decided to launch a new # WineWednesday cheap hotels puerto rico series where every week we give you a brief snapshot of wine regions all over the globe and insight on how to get there, where to stay and a couple places cheap hotels puerto rico you might want to visit while there. Today we head to a New World wine region where they ve been making wine for over 500 years (go figure!): Chile s Colchagua cheap hotels puerto rico Valley .
We picked Chile as one of our Top 10 destinations to visit in 2013 thanks to Santiago's cosmopolitan allure, the wild beauty of Patagonia's glaciers and parks, the otherworldly beauty of the Atacama Desert in the north and Easter Island 's mystical charm. However, one of the very best reasons to visit this Southern cheap hotels puerto rico Hemisphere is to visit its wine regions, several of which are becoming veritable powerhouses on the international wine scene.
The most famous of them is the Colchagua Valley, about a 90-minute drive south of Santiago, where you can discover the country's signature grape varietal, Carmenere (though it actually only accounts for about 10% of Chile's wine production) as well as other familiar grapes cheap hotels puerto rico like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, as you explore wineries whose histories date back well over a century.
In fact, wine was being produced in Chile way back in the 1550's, making it the oldest wine-producing cheap hotels puerto rico country in the Americas. Many of Chile's current grapevines were planted from French roots in the 19 th century, and thanks to its geographic isolation between the Pacific cheap hotels puerto rico and the Andes, the country has some of the only non-phylloxera-infested vineyards in the world.
Getting to Chile is easier and cheaper than ever thanks not only to new airline partnerships such as Aerolineas Argentinas joining SkyTeam and the merging LATAM going with Oneworld , but also thanks to recent fare sales like this one on TAM in November, or super-cheap business class fares to Santiago on American Airlines last month.
The main airport in Santiago is Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport. Delta flies here from Atlanta, cheap hotels puerto rico American flies non-stop to Dallas/Forth Worth and Miami, and LAN offers direct service to New York-JFK, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami.
The Colchagua Valley, just about 90 minutes south of Santiago at the southern end of the larger Rapel Valley. Its temperate, dry, sunny climate produces powerful, fruit-driven reds, so you'll find a lot of Cabernet Sauvignon as well as more and more Syrah these days along with Chile's national grape, Carmenere, which has bright red fruit notes and a velvety, rounded mouthfeel.
To get a great sense of the valley's history, take some time to visit one of the biggest names on the Chilean wine scene, Casa Silva , a family-run winery near the town of San Fernando that is over 100 years old. Tucked cheap hotels puerto rico among its vineyards these days is a beautiful little inn, a polo and riding school, a small rodeo arena and a delicious gourmet restaurant in the polo clubhouse cheap hotels puerto rico serving traditional specialties. Though the winery is in Colchagua, it actually produces wines from grapes grown all over Chile, so be sure to try the Casa Silva Cool Coast Sauvignon Blanc the flagship Carmenere Reserva and the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva to get some solid benchmarks of what Chilean wines are like.
Nearby, MontGras is another big name in Chilean wine where visitors can arrange for horseback cheap hotels puerto rico rides and barbecues up in the hilly Ninquén vineyard or wine-blending classes at the winery itself and lunch at its restaurant. Lucky guests who come during harvest (March-May) can also ask tot take part in the grape harvest.
The main town of the Colchagua Valley, Santa Cruz, is just a half-hour farther south. Anchoring its main square cheap hotels puerto rico is a hotel-casino (more on that below) that also houses the Colchagua Museum , an eclectic cheap hotels puerto rico collection of local fossils and archaeological cheap hotels puerto rico finds, antique cars and trains, jewelry and more, all assembled by an eccentric Chilean tycoon.
Santa Cruz is a good base from which to visit nearby wineries with recognizable names like Casa Lapostolle , which is owned by the same family that owns Grand Marnier. Perched cheap hotels puerto rico on a hill outside town is its showcase winery, resembling an enormous bird s nest, where they make their high-end Clos Apalta and Borobo labels. Visitors here can also enjoy activities like hiking, bike rides or horseback cheap hotels puerto rico rides around the property's 1,600 acres.
Also nearby, Montes , has become one of Chile's most well-respected premium wineries. It makes for an interesting cheap hotels puerto rico visit because the building was designed according to the principles of feng shui with custom-designed water features and a semi-circular cheap hotels puerto rico barrel room where the maturing wines are serenaded cheap hotels puerto rico with Gregorian chants around the clock in order to produce a harmonious cheap hotels puerto rico natural cheap hotels puerto rico resonance in the wines. Here you can try the winery's flagship Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as other iconic wines including the supple, slightly spicy Carmenere-based Purple Angel.
One of the Colchagua's most fun gourmet experiences is taking a cooking class with one of Chile's most famous chefs, Pilar Rodriguez, at her cooking studio on the grounds of the Viu Manent winery. cheap hotels puerto rico Guests help Rodriguez prepare a multi-course feast of Chilean specialties such as roast pork ribs in adobo with mote (grain stew) and ceviche made from local shrimp and citrus. Each course is paired with a Viu Manent cheap hotels puerto rico wine, such as the tart Secreto Sauvignon Blanc and the inky Gran Reserva Carmenere. Visitors can also just drop by and visit the winery's on-site restaurant for a gourmet lunch with wine pairings.
For more of a trippy tasting experience, make a stop at Viña Santa Cruz , where you can taste wines before or after taking a gondola cheap hotels puerto rico up the property's mountain to explore a sort of mini-museum with replicas of indigenous settlements and buildings, hike the scenic trails for valley views and even go star-gazing in the small observatory after dark.
Staying at one of the winery B B's is a great way to unwind out in the country, and many offer activities like horseback riding, guided cheap hotels puerto rico tours and bicycles to keep you entertained while you're not wine tasting as well as gourmet restaurants where you can enjoy leisurely tasting menus for dinner.
In Santa Cruz itself, the Hotel Santa Cruz Plaza is on the more affordable side of the budget spectrum and has 116 rooms and 16 suites as well as a decent restaurant and bar, a spa and a casino that gets lively in the evenings.

I came on here to recommend those exact same wineries. Paying for the tour at Lapostolle is very much worth it. Definitely requires cheap hotels puerto rico at least one night as it is a bit of a drive and allows you to drink more wine!

MISSION: Fight this man's filthy ideas: As you grow up in this world you realize people really don t give a sh** about what you feel or what you think. coupons for alamo rent a car --Common Core architect David Coleman at NYSED, April 2011
A powerful piece, coupons for alamo rent a car questioning the unquestionable: just what gives Charlotte Danielson the authority and expertise to play God with people's teaching reputations and careers. coupons for alamo rent a car This is all important to teachers in cities across the nation, as her Danielson Framework rubrics are being used variously as tools for constructive criticism or as a rapid fire assault weapon to nit-pick at how teachers coupons for alamo rent a car teach. As a few people coupons for alamo rent a car have said, one would have to be a Greek god to attain the "Highly Developed" category. Even a few principals have acknowledged that this is level is really, really exceptional.
Her Frameworks are of special concern in New York City, as the United coupons for alamo rent a car Federation of Teachers lobbied for, and secured, in King's evaluation plan, an even higher number of 22 points , whereas the city Department of Education only wanted a handful. This kind of ill-minded choice is emblematic of a UFT leadership years removed from the classroom .
So much of the education reform movement rests on unquestioning acceptance of certain assumptions. The blind acceptance of assumptions represent a modern day manifestation of the Emperor's New Clothes. Hitherto, no one, except bloggers, has publicly questioned her qualifications or her teacher evaluation program. The classic essence of her program is micro-managing deskilling teachers of their professional craft. The language and the motivations that Danielson and her reformer kin have uncanny parallels with Taylorism's deskilling. The iPad and other computer coupons for alamo rent a car tools for deskilling coupons for alamo rent a car make this a kind of Digital coupons for alamo rent a car Taylorism .
The reformers when touting their poisons love to make international comparisons. When pushing the Common Core they allege that their standards are "internationally benchmarked." Where is the evidence that the PISA high-flying nations are following the Charlotte Danielson model? Oh, that's right, it's tackling extremes of income gaps , not the testing regime of Discipline and Punish.
This Huffington Post article opens with reference to the New York Times' adulation for New York State Education Commissioner John King's imposition of a new teacher evaluation system on New York City teachers. It then cites aligned praise for the system, from both mayor Michael Bloomberg and United coupons for alamo rent a car Federation of Teachers president Michael Mulgrew (Unity Caucus).
coupons for alamo rent a car Unfortunately, nobody, not the Times, the New York State Education Department, the New York City Department of Education, nor the teachers' union have demonstrated any positive correlation between teacher assessments based on the Danielson rubrics, good teaching, and the implementation of new higher academic standards for students under Common Core.
A case demonstrating the relationship could have been made, if it actually exists. A format based on the Danielson rubrics is already being used to evaluate teachers in at least thirty-three struggling schools in New York City and by one of the supervising networks. Kentucky has been using an adapted version of Danielson's Framework for Teaching to evaluate teachers since 2011 and according to the New Jersey Department of Education, sixty percent of nearly 500 school districts in the state are using teacher evaluation models developed by the [Princeton, N.J.-based] Danielson Group . The South Orange/Maplewood and Cherry Hill , New Jersey schools have used the Danielson model for several years.
According to the Times editorial , the "new evaluation system could make it easier to fire markedly poor performers" and help "the great majority of teachers become better at their jobs." coupons for alamo rent a car But as far as I can tell, the new evaluation system is mostly a weapon to harass teachers and force them to follow dubious scripted lessons.
Ironically, in a pretty comprehensive search on the Internet, I have had difficulty discovering who Charlotte Danielson really is and what her qualifications are for developing a teacher evaluation system. According to the website of the Danielson Group, "the Group consists of consultants of the highest caliber, talent, and experience in educational practice, leadership, and research." It provides "a wide array of professional development and consulting services to clients across coupons for alamo rent a car the United coupons for alamo rent a car States and abroad" and is "the only organization approved by Charlotte Danielson to provide training and consultation around the Framework for Teaching."
The group's services come at a cost, which is not a surprise, although you have to apply for their services to get an actual price quote. Individuals who participated in a three-day workshop at the King of Prussia campus of Arcadia University in Pennsylvania paid $599 each. A companion four-week online class cost $1,809 per person. coupons for alamo rent a car According to a comparison chart prepared by the Alaska Department of Education, the "Danielson Group uses 'bundled' coupons for alamo rent a car pricing that is inclusive of the consultant's daily rate, hotel and airfare. The current fee structure is $4,000 per consultant/per day when three or more consecutive days of training are scheduled. One and two-day rates are $4,500/per consultant/per day. We will also schedule keynote coupons for alamo rent a car presentations for large groups when feasible. A keynote presentations is for informational/overview purposes and does not constitute training in the Framework for Teaching."
Then, there's the juicy stuff: her stellar teaching expertise credentials. But puncture the myth, and everything gets very cloudy, very quickly. And why has she never gone into how many years, at which grade levels, at which schools, in which sort of school systems, urban, suburban, socially heterogenous coupons for alamo rent a car or homogenous, public or private? One wonders, is this like the grand myth that Michelle Rhee created for herself, that her impact as a Baltimore teacher was exemplary in the test score-raising measure, until someone destroyed the myth by unearthing her record to find that change in her classes was not what she purported? And where are the former teaching colleagues of Charlotte Danielson? These are important questions, as her rubric is used to terminate people and destroy their careers and reputations.
Charlotte Danielson is supposed to be "an internationally-recognized expert in the area of teacher effectiveness, specializing in the design of teacher evaluation systems that, while ensuring teacher quality, also promote professional learning" who "advises State Education Departments coupons for alamo rent a car and National Ministries and Departments of Education, both in the United States and overseas." Her online biography claims that she has "taught at all levels, from kindergarten through college, and has worked as an administrator, a curriculum director, and a staff developer" and to have degrees from Cornell, Oxford and Rutgers, but I can find no formal academic resume online. Her undergraduate degree seems to have been in history with a specialization in Chinese history and she studied philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford and educational administration and supervision at Rutgers. While working as an economist in Washington, D.C., Danielson obtained her teaching credentials coupons for alamo rent a car and began work in her neighborhood elementary school, but it is not clear in what capacity or for how long. She developed her ideas for teacher coupons for alamo rent a car evaluation while working at the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and since 1996 has published a series of books and articles with ASCD (the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development). I have seen photographs and video broadcasts online, but I am still not convinced she really exists as more than a front for the Danielson Group that is selling its teacher evaluation product.
The United Federation of Teachers and the online news journal Gotham Schools both asked a person purporting to be Charlotte Danielson to evaluate the initial Danielson rubrics being used in New York City schools. In a phone interview reported on in Gotham Schools , Danielson was supposedly in Chile selling her frameworks to the Chilean government, "Danielson was hesitant to insert herself coupons for alamo rent a car into an union-district battle, but did confirm that she disapproved of the checklist shown to her." The checklist "was inappropriate because of the way it was filled out. It indicated that the observer coupons for alamo rent a car had already begun evaluating coupons for alamo rent a car a teacher while in the classroom observation. She said that's a fundamental no-no."
[Postscript: Danielson's national reach is quite expansive. As her press release, celebrating the Danielson Group's 15th anniversary , from June 28, 2011, stated while celebrating record growth, beyond New Jersey and New York City, the Framework is the default evaluation system for Illinois, Los Angeles, coupons for alamo rent a car California and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as well as having state-wide adoption in Arkansas, Delaware, Idaho and South Dakota.]
Singer then gets to how the actual implementation of the Danielson Frameworks will involve superficial fifteen minute snapshots of what could be lessons ranging from 45 minutes to pairs of 50 minute block periods. These snap judgments are meant to cast judgment on an entire coupons for alamo rent a car lesson. (Actually this already has become standard practice under Bloomberg: with the widespread breakup of comprehensive high schools, out have gone the subject department coupons for alamo rent a car chairs would would be observing assistant principals. Typically coupons for alamo rent a car these traditional APs would have been seasoned veteran teachers. Now under the Bloomberg era of smaller schools the departmental coupons for alamo rent a car APs are gone. So, the observers are often people coupons for alamo rent a car of an entirely different background. So, a former gym teacher can now observe a chemistry class, having limited coupons for alamo rent a car understanding of the subject. Worse, often principals, from the Leadership Academy, have little or no classroom experience.)
Commendably, he points to how inappropriate it is for someone to note a fraction of someone's performance, and then make a global j
