Egypt was definitely a destination I wanted to squeeze in while I was in Europe. Unfortunately the media is painting a sad picture of the country due to its recent political revolutions and the throwing of the last government. All the travel authority websites tell you not to go, but what is life without taking a risk or two? Just make sure you have travel insurance. I did Top Decks 'Egypt Express' tour which was a 9 day trip starting and ending in Cairo. Transfers from the airport were included and we were even greeted by a Top Deck rep at 5am when we arrived who helped us with our bags and got us to the hotel safe n sound. The trip was led by the legendary tour leader Ramzy, who is a local man and was always happy to help and make you feel at home in his country. We went to the Egypt museum, saw sights like the great Pyramids of Giza (even went inside one of them), the Sphinx, Abu Simbel Temple, Luxor and Karnak Temples, and finally The Valley of the Kings where past Kings of Egypt are buried (which is a must see). We paid a bit extra to go into King Tutankhamun's tomb and even see his mummified body which is over 3000 years old. The accommodation was more than satisfactory and we also spent two nights relaxing on the Nile river on a fellucca which is a traditional sail boat in Egypt. On top of this, we had the chance to ride camels and have a traditional meal in a local village. Michele Bachmann (Minn.), Steve King (Iowa) and Louie Gohmert (Texas) arrived in Egypt on Saturday for the weeklong congressional delegation trip, or CODEL for short, The Huffington Post has learned.
This is the second time in six months that Bachmann, King and Gohmert have visited the Middle East to deliver messages that seemingly challenge the Obama administration's foreign policy . At a time when U.S. relations with the Middle East, and Israel in particular, are incredibly delicate, the visit by some of Congress' most conservative members could send complicating, if not conflicting, signals to key allies.
On Sunday, the three lawmakers met with interim Egyptian President Adly Mansour and Defense Minister Gen. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. After departing Egypt on Monday, the trio went on to Beirut and then Libya, where they were joined by freshman Rep. Robert Pittenger (R-N.C.) for an eight-hour visit to the capital, Tripoli. From Libya, the foursome moved on to Israel, where they met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
