As far as ski resort communities go, this one is near perfect. The town is clean and so picturesque.

Before the 2010 Olympics, Whistler already ranked as a world-class ski town. It has the most acreage and vertical drop in North America, annual skier visits over the two million mark, 90-plus restaurants, and a vibrant nightlife scene. But the Winter Games took things to a whole new level. With a highway expansion, an efficient public bus system, and a record-setting gondola that joins two epic mountains, there's nothing here that isn't top-notch, freshly scrubbed, or just plain big. And you don't come just for skiing, either: Hike the rugged Coast Mountains, zip-line hundreds of feet above Fitzsimmons Creek, golf, mountain-bike, and even walk on glaciers. Thankfully, unlike other haute ski towns we won't mention, you're just as likely to run into a dreadlocked 19-year-old ski-film star as a supermodel with her pants tucked into fur boots.

In the summer, the ski lifts turn into mountain bike lifts. Whistler is a year-round destination.
