As a bit of a control freak, I always like to know exactly what to expect and how to prepare when embarking on a new activity. I solicited lots of advice from other Mamans about traveling south with baby, and now that I'm almost at the end of our holiday, I can share my own tips and experiences.
Air Transat has a kids' club that might be worth looking into for children between car rental cancun 2-11. There are perks like early boarding! car rental cancun The kids on board also seemed pretty thrilled with their little activity packs!
When we arrived at Cancun International Airport, our stroller was not at the gate but on the luggage carousel. Luckily, we had our Ergo, because there was a very long wait to go through customs prior to getting to the carousel. I'm not sure if we just missed the boat by not specifically requesting that our stroller be brought to the gate. They took it from us while we were still in the lounge (we brought baby on board in the carrier), and I just took for granted that it would be delivered to the gate along with the wheelchairs.
Those with strollers who arrived on different airlines were ushered through security quickly. We were not. We aren't pushy travelers though, so perhaps if we had asked, they would've given us priority too.
During the flight, you will be given customs forms that must be completed before you get to the customs desk. There is one declaration form for every family travelling together and it is filled out by the "head of family." This form is handed to the agent at your last stop before leaving the airport: the security check. Every member of the family must also have an immigration form filled out, and this includes babies. Be sure to fill out the top (for entrance to the country) and the bottom (for exit). We were confused and only filled out the top, so we were held up. A parent car rental cancun must sign for any child who cannot sign for himself. Once you've made it through customs and immigration, and collected your luggage, you still have to go through another security check where your bags are x-rayed by the Mexican authorities. They will ask one family member to press a button which will then indicate either red or green. If it indicates red, lucky you, you win a random search of your luggage! (Here is all the customs information for Mexico , which I did not read in advance.)
As you exit the airport there will be lots of people accosting you. You have those selling time shares, offering taxis to your resort, etc. There are also valets who pretty much grab your suitcases car rental cancun from your hands and will then help you to find your bus. If you don't want their help (and to leave a tip), keep walking til you are outside the doors of the airport and then look for someone holding a sign for your tour group. They will have a list telling you which bus number to look for.
Your bus doesn't leave until all the guests who are supposed to be on board have arrived. This means that you may be waiting on the bus for a while. Then, the length of your bus ride will depend on where your resort is on the route. Change diapers before leaving the airport ! Bring enough snacks not just for the plane but also for the bus ride!
At check-in you will receive one room key and towel cards. They gave us three towel cards (one for baby!). Next time I would ask if we can leave a deposit or something car rental cancun to have a second key. It was at times quite inconvenient only having one key.
While you're checking in, your suit cases will be unloaded from the bus. Once you've checked in, go see the valet to tell him your room number. Your luggage will be brought to your room. You can walk or take a chauffeured golf cart to your room. I suggest having some essentials car rental cancun in your carry on luggage, or perhaps in a smaller bag which you can carry with you to your room: it's a big resort and it takes a while for your luggage to be delivered.
Overall I'd say that this resort is very suitable to families with children of all ages, from babies to teenagers. We traveled with my cousins who are 10 and 14, and they had a great time. For us with our infant, car rental cancun things were great.
You can't easily bring a stroller onto the carts that drive you around the resort- car rental cancun if you have an umbrella stroller you could fold it and carry baby on your lap. This wasn't an issue for us, but some of the buildings are quite far from the beach.
There are professional photographers who roam the resort and will get you to strike a pose (sometimes with a monkey or a toucan, or another animal friend). Photos are $21 USD for an 8x10 (printed, plus a digital copy.) We ended up getting a few as souvenirs. Thumbnail versions are put up in the photo store near the lobby for you to check out. Sure it's expensive, but I really car rental cancun think a nice family portrait will be something you hold on to forever... rather than some other trinket that will end up at your next garage sale.
We stayed in the cheapest type of room, known as "Deluxe." Our room was in building 5, called "Palenque." Note that the bathroom doesn't have a tub. The shower is large and has a bench and hand-held shower along with the regular shower head. It was easy to take baby in the shower with us.
There are 8 different buildings at Blue Bay, and it may be worth considering where in the resort you stay. We just took what we got (we didn't specify a building), and I'm glad we were in Palenque. Buildings car rental cancun 1-5 are close to the main pool and the ocean. To me, these are the best buildings to stay in if you have children, since you want to be close to the ocean. Buildings 6, 7 and 8 are apparently the newest, and have their own pool area. However, it's a decent trek from those buildings to get to the larger pool and to the ocean.
We all really car rental cancun enjoyed the food, both in the two buffets (one near the ocean which is open for breakfast and lunch, car rental cancun the other, near the lobby for all three meals) and at the A la carte restaurants. There is also a BBQ near the main pool which serves hot dogs and burgers in the afternoon. There's car rental cancun a good mix of familiar standbys like pasta, fries, salads, etc. along with fancier fare and traditional Mexican car rental cancun dishes.
For children eating solids (my dude was only breastfeeding, which was super convenient), car rental cancun it might be a good idea to pack a couple of bottles that you can fill with milk or juice to keep in your bar fridge. The main restaurant (called "Festival") has milk and juice in self-serve dispensers during breakfast and lunch. You could also grab bananas, car rental cancun apples and packaged yogurts to keep in your room or your beach bag in case the kids get hungry at times when the restaurants are closed or you don't want to get up from your chaise car rental cancun lounge. (Keep in mind: Signs are posted car rental cancun that it is forbidden to take food out of the restaurant. Personally, I wouldn't have a problem slipping a couple yogurts and a banana into my beach bag for my kids.)
The hotel is built amongst the mangroves, and there are a surprising amount of indigenous creatures to be spotted. The most prolific are the coatis. These raccoon-like car rental cancun creatures are everywhere . They eat everything. They are not afraid of humans and are very, very clever. I also suspect that most of them are functioning alcoholics. They are constantly car rental cancun lapping up the dregs of unfinished drinks... Kahlua Mudslides seem to be a particular favourite. I saw these cute creatures getting car rental cancun up close and personal car rental cancun with children. Don't feed them! They're wild animals. You wouldn't let your kids pet or hand-feed a raccoon. The same applies to their southern cousin.
There is a lagoon about a ten minute walk down the beach to the left (if you're facing the ocean). You have to walk past the next resort to get there, and if they let you, cross their bridge. This area is under development, so whether or not people from other resorts have access to this lagoon will remain to be seen. If you can get there, it's a must see. The lagoon is breathtakingly gorgeous. You will see fish of all sorts just beneath the surface. The water is tepid enough to please even my baby (who prefers bath water).
One of our only issues during our stay was that initially, they were coming to clean the room in the late afternoon. This was a problem since we were occupying the room at that time for baby's nap. We spoke to the concierge, and for the rest of the trip they came in the morning. Ask nicely (rather than complain), and ye shall receive!
