When we first met the property, it was going to the home of a shiny new condo block. When the market tanked, gears shifted and it was pegged as an apartment building. As the recession dragged on, it was re-imagined as a modest office tower. And now it has finally made the transition to the newly fashionable style of land use: The hotel sandwich.
According to an e-mail alert from 42nd Ward Alderman Brendan Reilly, Jupiter Realty wants to put up a single building with a Hampton Inn on top and a Homewood Suites hotel metropole bellagio on the bottom. Or the other way around.
We ve seen this kind of hotel layering before in Chicago, such as at the proposed Hyatt House-over-Hyatt Place at Rush and Superior. In other cities it s been done with brands as tony as the Four Seasons.

It looks good enough. If I had one suggestion, I would like to see those two faux brick buildings have a different look to each other, to make them appear even more like old buildings, and not just clones hotel metropole bellagio of each other.
