Hey all. This will be my first power tour. My son and I are going to try and make the Charlotte and Knoxville legs of the tour. We live in Johnson City (close to Bristol), so we are close enough to drive, and skip the hotels.
My question is about the daily schedule. On the 7th for example, will the daily activities be held all day, then the drive to Knoxville will start early morning on the 8th? I would like to attend the Charlotte event, and take part in the drive to Knoxville, and then attend the event at Knoxville also. I just don't want to stay in a hotel.
Hey there Dad -- Saturday event at Charlotte is from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. You don't have to get there right when it starts as it's a day long event. And most people won't be staying until 7 p.m. either. It's a weekend and the first day, so it's probably one of the biggest turn-outs. You don't want to get there too late though, as on my first PT in 2012 there was a large line of cars to get in as the morning turned later. There must have been 3,000 cars there at least, plus the spectator traffic.
Previous Power Tours had daily morning driver meetings. This year they are only doing one, and it will be Sunday morning at the zMAX Dragway. It's not the meeting that's important. Just that we will all leave in mass that first leg. So just drive there and hang by your car until we get the "go" sign. Schedule says they want to depart at 7:30 a.m. It's really cool because it's probably the only day just about everyone will leave exactly at the same time. Usually rental car prices the police stop local traffic for the couple thousand Power Tour cars to head out. Like I said -- really cool and you and your son will love it. Then once we get to Knoxville it's a car show there. That schedule is from noon (or whenever you hit Knoxville) until 7 p.m.
