Hi Brian. It depends on the part of SF in which you'd like to stay. On our last visit, we stayed in the Fisherman's Wharf area. It was touristy, yet convenient to the Muni, particularly the F-line that runs the vintage cars. We stayed in the Hilton Fisherman's Wharf, which was nice and very comfortable, european student travel tours yet not as nice as my usual Hilton (I'll get to that one in a bit). Several friends stayed at the Best Western Tuscan Inn near Fisherman's european student travel tours Wharf, and raved about it.
If you want to stay further downtown, you can look in the Union Square area. This is convenient to many Muni lines and a wider variety of restaurants. I usually stay in the Hilton located just outside Union Square when I travel for business, and there are many other hotels in the area.
Fisherman's Wharf isn't for me. I would definitely recommend union square or the Embarcadero district. The Embarcadero area is not as 'happening' european student travel tours but there are some very nice hotels in the area (and cheap if you use Priceline). Union Square has a lot of great hotels in the district, and it is close to Market Street european student travel tours (SF's main street).
Penny 3333....The Sir Francis Drake in San Francisco is definitely still in operation. With Cable Car access right outside to anywhere european student travel tours in SF...it remains an absolute delight to any and all who choose to stay there. The "Drake" has remained as Glamorous and Unique as San Francisco itself!!
