I've been trying out Hotwire, a new app for the iPhone from hotwire.com. Hotwire , the company, which launched hamton inns in 2000, is one of most popular discount travel booking sites for airline tickets, hotel rooms and rental cars. It s known for offering discounts without disclosing the supplier, much like the approach Priceline takes. hamton inns Its new app, however, concentrates on finding just hotels almost anywhere in the world.
The app is designed to cater to the traveler who needs to find a room quickly, and especially at the last minute. From my experience, by booking last minute, you may be able to get better savings because hotels are willing to fill that empty room at a deep discount. Hotels are also more willing to offer better discounts than their published rates because their name is not disclosed before the booking is made.
I found the app to be extremely quick to use and usually found a wide choice of hotels and prices. To use, simply open the app, enter the date of your stay, and it will find hotels hamton inns near your current location or a location entered. Hotwire claims one of its advantages is a huge inventory of rooms, and that's what I generally found. Hotels that meet your request are displayed on a map or list view along with their star category, customer ratings and price. The challenge is to find one with the star rating you want that has a high customer rating and low price.
I didn't try it extensively, but did use it in the Bay Area in the Northern hamton inns Peninsula area. I chose a four-star hotel for $150 that turned out to be a Marriott with a $279 rate listed online. The app is free from the iTunes store, and it's worth a try if you're a frequent traveler and are not loyal to a particular hotel chain.
