Because I am now resident in Spain I am in the process of exchanging my full UK driving licence for a Spanish one. Today I have had to submit my UK licence (both parts) to the Trafico office in Malaga - and they have issued me with a temporary Spanish budget car truck rentals licence until the permanent new one arrives. However, this is not likely to be for another three weeks. I will be visiting the UK soon and will need to rent a car. Therefore today they issued me with a International Driving Permit to accompany the temporary licence which they said should allow me to rent a car in the UK. Could anyone confirm that this will be the case? I do still have photocopies of my UK licence if that would help too?
Welcome to the site Karlos, not a good idea to give up your UK license? When I was working budget car truck rentals overseas, I used my International license, but still kept my UK one, glad I did as I needed it quite a few times just for I.D, good luck.
Your UK driving licence is still valid, isnt it? Car Hire companies have some arrangement with DVLA that they can phone up DVLA and get confirmation on a drivers up-to-date licence status. I believe.
The only slight prob that I can forsee is your current permanent address. What address is shown on your current UK driving licence? But, doesnt the latest UK driving licence also have the EU logo on it?
