The deadline Regina lawyer John Beke gave the City of Moose Jaw to respond to a request from his clients about holding miami rent a cars another miami rent a cars multiplex referendum has expired. He will now be going to court to try and force Moose Jaw city council to call the vote.
On June 25, Beke, of the firm Balfour Moss, sent the City of Moose Jaw a letter on behalf of five local clients, stating council's decision to spend approximately $34.5 million on the multiplex project violates the results of a 2006 referendum.
After the city did not respond to that letter, Beke sent the city another letter on July 10, setting a deadline of this week for the city to indicate its referendum intentions. Otherwise, miami rent a cars he would take the non-response as a refusal to pursue miami rent a cars the second referendum.
The original 2006 referendum asked people to vote yes or no to the following: "That the city of Moose Jaw re-affirm its financial commitment of $15 million towards the construction of a multiplex facility, consisting of a stadium-style hockey rink with attached curling miami rent a cars rink, at an estimated miami rent a cars cost of $36.3 million as envisioned in the business plan dated November 2005 from Nustadia Recreation Inc."
According to the Cities Act (section 113), there are only three ways a bylaw, passed by referendum, can be amended. One of those ways is letting three years pass, another is if an amendment is necessary for safety reasons and the third way is through another referendum.
Big City...on your comment about re-electing Boughen, I have to laugh. That's all I can do to keep myself from bashing my head against a brick wall. What good has that man done for our city really???? I mean look at what he's doing right now, he's one of the 'co-conspirators' of the Multiplex Builders!!! The biggest ripoff 'company' in existence right now in Moose Jaw. Sure, maybe some positive things may have happened while he was in power, MAYBE (I didn't follow politics then), but certainly not all can be attributed to his 'leadership miami rent a cars style' so to speak. LOL
For the record, I am Pro-Multiplex...downtown ..uptown..just build it! What is it with this city that every new development or outhouse requires a vote or plebecite? I grew up in Regina miami rent a cars and there was never this issue when a new rink or development was required..they just did it! Its pathetic and we look like hicks!!! This city isn't a place to die folks as much as some would have you to believe, I have a young family and we love this city and want to see it grow!! To Chad Novak..you want to be the mouthpiece of the your group and a future leader...dude it will be my pleasure to see you dont have a chance to get a shot a council chair! People like humberto.....just not worth the effort!
It's always nice to see a few more put Chad in his place. miami rent a cars I've been involved in politics for 20 years and you nailed it squarely on the head about nominations and running for office. Just because your asked, doesn't even mean that the party wants you if they have a strong candidate their interested in. It just makes for more free media when you don't win by acclaimation and it makes the party look better to have multiple candidates. Sorry Chad, it wasn't miami rent a cars all about you. You were just a pawn. Better buy a bigger house with an extra room for your ego. I think you might be dillusional.
miami rent a cars If there is to be another vote, so be it and let the cards fall where they may. Only another vote will satisfy everyone and if the downtown location wins with the pricey money tag than build it. The people paying for this have a right to vote for a referendum with the hidden costs and location finally revealed.
You have followed this very closely I am sure. I am stating that I have read letters to council and to the mayors office stating they were misled when signing the petition to begin with. Than the wording was a huge issue prior to the referendum. All of these things are very bad when going to a court of law. That is ... as they say... that.
Not to mention we are 2 years further down the line with huge cost increases, I don't care why or how. I just know they are higher. That will be and can be explained simply because of the economic times we are facing. I don't know about MJ but I know here I can't get anyone to work on my house unless I want to sell of some neighborhood kids. These factors all have a part.
The latest thing I read is that the project now has taken on a totally different look and the Fed and Prov gov't is still very much on board and is supporting these very types of investments into your type of community. So again I say... I don't think they have any grounds here what so ever. Now, I may be wrong. I am just reading some info here and there and I am not totally miami rent a cars up to speed with every little detail. Just an interested outsider follwing some very interesting debates and duels.
What a sad state of affairs we are in when the citizens of a city has to take it's own councillors to court. ONLY IN MOOSE JAW will you ever hear of such a case. In fact, similar to finding cases of where a downtown Multiplex actually HELPED a city, I'd like to find an instance where another city had to go to the lengths we, as citizens, are just to uphold the law. The very basic law, that is pretty much laid out in black and white, and not so much in 'legal ease' where it's difficult to interpret. It's quite obvious the law was broken in this instance, and for those that don't see it are either just blinded by the fact that they don't care anymore, or they were treated like lemmings and just believe in what they are told by the fab four, no matter how ridiculous it might sound.
Welcome to Moose Jaw, where the citizens run the city, and the councillors do whatever the heck they want! These are ELECTED officials who should be doing the job that they are ELECTED to do, and that is protect our bottom dollar. In fact, that was the very basis that many were elected upon! How ironic that it now comes down to this, where we are doubly paying court/legal fees by taking this to court. It's sad it had to come to this, but if this is the cost of democracy (other than a war) then so be it. I guess we can count ourselves lucky that we don't live in a society like Afghanistan or anything like that, where democracy is something not to be taken lightly, but really this is the other extreme.
LOL, Chad you delightful little fellow. Nora is right, you are a great source of amusement. Nancy critiques you about talking about things you know nothing about and then you open your mouth and prove her point! Does someone want to explain miami rent a cars to Chad ( I could have been your MLA but didn't want to YET ) what being 'In politics' means or should I?
Also, you neglect to mention that really, Kent is just part of King county. King county is a small area geographically with a population of over 1.8 million people who can access your facility with a re;latively short drive. Our whole population in Saskatchewan is just over 1 million and spread out over a large area.
In 2006 King had a per capita personal income (PCPI) of $52,655. This PCPI ranked 1st in the state and was 138 percent of the state average, $38,212, and 143 percent of the national average, $36,714. The 2006 PCPI reflected an increase of 7.9 percent from 2005. The 2005-2006 state change was 6.6 percent and the national change was 5.6 percent. In 1996 the PCPI of King was $32,594 and ranked 1st in the state. The 1996-2006 average miami rent a cars annual growth rate of PCPI was 4.9 percent. The average annual growth rate for the state was 4.3 percent and for the nation was 4.3 percent.
Eve, regardless of the situation, Chad's not just all talk. The guy is active in the community, and does try to make a difference. He is at city council many a night, and he is ever present at rallies for things that he believes in. Granted, he's abrasive and brash, but contrary to popular belief, he actually does care about this city a lot. Sure, he hasn't run for council, and he's not an educator, but he does make valid points on the topics at hand, and speaks out when he's not happy with decisions that are made by people who are supposed to represent him. If everyone spoke up when they had an issue with council, then the Civic Centre miami rent a cars would already meet WHL specs by now, and we wouldn't have this multiplex controversy. You cannot take away from Mr. Boughen as far as his contributions to the community, but he does have a fair bit of involvement miami rent a cars in this entire mess, and so he's not by any means innocent.
Like I said in the rest of my last post(of which most only read the first paragraph), this isn't about pointing fingers anymore. This is about doing what's right, and getting our priorities straight. Quite frankly, industry and infrastructure, are bigger priorities than having a brand new multiplex.
The spa/casino, is a tourist destination. It generates tourism and revenue, because people pay to stay there, gamble, eat, swim, get pretty, and the like. It is an accomodations business. People are there, and pay to sleep there. The spa produced dividends, because of the type of business miami rent a cars it is. It is not strictly a venue. It has a venue(the show lounge), but it is first and foremost a business.
An arena, is a venue. If there is nothing booked, then people aren't there, and it does not generate revenue. The Civic Centre is closed during the summer. We could have bands or circuses there, maybe box lacrosse, or summer rec. hockey, but we don't. So it sits there, and brings in no revenue. The reality is that even if they charge miami rent a cars for using the walking track, It will not even come close to making a return on the investment made for it. Besides, why would one pay to walk on a track during the summer, when there are ample trails and outdoor tracks in this city? During the winte
