My engine light came on 2 days ago when I was very low on fuel trying to see how accurate the BC was. My ScanGauge came up with P2097 - Post Catalyst Fuel Trim System High Limit. buying used rental cars It reset ok (after I stopped, it would not reset while I was driving) but came back again later in the day. After refuelling it came back once more but has not returned since, anyone else get this code? BTW, my BC indicated I had used 42.7 liters for the trip, it took 43.2 liters to fill.
Just a un scientific wildssa guess but if you took on 43.2L of fuel and used 42.7L, that means you had 0.5L of gas left!? 1/2 liter of fuel and you weren't concerned about running on fumes before dying on the road? Guess why you have the error code? Running that low on fuel and you'll be sorry about obsessing over an error code caused by obsessing over your new toys. Consider yourself fortunate that you didn't buying used rental cars run out of fuel. The other hint of the code never coming back was filling up the tank . Running that low on fuel can result in leaned out fuel mixtures leading to catalytic converter damage.

Not sure I understand why running the tank low would lean out the mixture, that code didn't come up and the engine was not starved for fuel. Fuel starvation will result in engine misfire before it actually buying used rental cars dies, and since misfire will dramatically increase the temperature of the catalytic convertor it will eventually damage buying used rental cars it. That was not the case. The engine ran fine and I was not concerned with running out of fuel.
OK, its your car, do what you want but consider that the fuel lines might take about 1/2 to 1 liter of fuel sans air and nothing but engineering design buying used rental cars is keeping out air from entering the lines. Simply driving doesn't guarantee buying used rental cars fuel feeding 100% of the time into the lines when running low to empty. Unless you are willing to continue buying used rental cars gambling on running your fuel system below 1 liter you'll buying used rental cars likely never see this error code again. Your fuel system already began filling with air and since air mixed with fuel becomes a leaned out fuel mixture where the injectors are supposedly spraying fuel 100% of the time, the leaned out mixture is detected by the front O2 sensor that automatically informed the ECM of this leaned out mix. The ECM responds by keeping the injectors open a little buying used rental cars more to compensate until reaching buying used rental cars its end limits - fuel trim system high limit. No more enrichment because too much air is being pushed through instead of fuel so the error code pops up. It won't return until you run the fuel down again below a liter. Its certain that it'll pop up again if you insist. You don't have to believe me. Just be sure to remember that continually running this way will eventually shorten the life of the fuel pump too.
Are you certain that you fully understand buying used rental cars electronic buying used rental cars fuel injection? How do you know what fuel starvation is with EFI systems? Ever run out of fuel with a vehicle equipped with automatic on board diagnostics before? Fuel starvation doesn't guarantee a misfire since its already proven that too rich a mixture does lead to misfiring buying used rental cars with the excess buying used rental cars fuel burning in the catcon. Further, a leaned out fuel mixture could lead to detonation that's picked up by the knock sensors to retard the timing. All this takes place without informing you to allow continued driving until running out of fuel, period. No formal announcement other than the empty light warning drivers to fiil up. If you're so sure then ask Saturn the same question but be sure to inform them of how you arrived at this code. Bet a dollar that they'll most likely reply the same way.
At our store in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada (Saturn of Regina), we have about 23 Astras running around with the P2097. GM Canada doesn't seem to worried about it but it's difficult to convince customers to ignore the S.E.S. light. We seem to be hit the hardest in Canada out of our 60 retailers buying used rental cars and I have asked other Service Team Leaders whether they have had the problem and they have not. Some have had one. Maybe there is something buying used rental cars with our fuel as we have a refinery here dealing with pretty poor crude product...I guess when they say crude...it's no joke; our stuff is like tar.
When we have taken VDR snapshots, the Catylist monitoring sensor buying used rental cars is reading buying used rental cars rich and cannot lean the mixture to clean up the hydo-carbons. We don't think that the car is running rich so this may be a software issue. There has been some speculation that certain components in the fuel are 'messing' with the convertor but there's nothing to support that.
Watch it, I brought buying used rental cars this up in a thread a few months ago and got half flamed for it, They said thats why they have a warranty and that the Astra may have a hatch to get to the pump so you don't have to drop the tank.
Interesting info on the Canadian Astra's. I'd think that GM would be a little more concerned about a trend that on the surface indicates the cars are running too rich, perhaps above smog cert. levels.

Don't disagree with some of your logic but I am curious about the high limit trim error code, and thinking about it, that could possibly indicate what you are suggesting, injectors full duty cycle without enough fuel pressure. I wasn't worried about burning up the fuel pump, it was -20 at the time.
I do have some experience with fuel injection, I designed an electronic control in the mid 80's for a natural gas injection system which my collegue got an US patent on. We used a Chev 350 pickup as our test mule, learned quite a lot on what an engine needs to run. Being in the electronic control field thats what I do, push hardware software hard to find the limits, for better or worse. buying used rental cars Mostly on equipment far larger and more expensive than a car engine.

Interesting that you understand the limits buying used rental cars when having a broad based concept of design engineering. I was surprised to read about the Astras up north having issues also with P2097 and possibilities with fuel issues. Not having any more access to information other than what's posted tends to keep my point of view somewhat buying used rental cars myopic. Considering EFI systems are generally cast in stone with small tweaks for general overall reliability and fuel
also in the same light, I tend to think the circumstances of running fuel lines partially aerated buying used rental cars would influence the electronics (running at the extremes/finding the limits) since this would be man made interference and not the fault of the EFI system. If fuel can be considered one of the stimuli to running EFI and virtually every EFI system depends on a source of whole fuel sans air, this system runs perfectly. Aeration of the fuel line isn't part of the 'program' so it wasn't too difficult to simply arrive at this scenario with less than a liter of fuel in the system buying used rental cars despite the best designs possible to eliminate aeration in every fuel tank system. I'm sure a fuel systems engineer would berate me a
