Want to experience affordable cruising without committing to an entire week or more? Perhaps you’re not even sure you’ll like the experience or you just can’t take that much time off work. I’ve cruised several times but it was my friend’s first cruise so I wanted to select a safe option to get her started. We decided on a three night repositioning cruise from Panama City, Panama to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Royal Caribbean Cruise lines. With inside staterooms houston hotel starting at $99, it was cheap and short; a perfect introduction to cruising.
What is a repositioning cruise? At the end of some cruise seasons, cruise lines must reposition the ship (usually due to weather) to another part of the world. Examples of this would be at the beginning and end of the Alaska cruise season, sailings in particular parts of Europe houston hotel and different houston hotel sections houston hotel of the Caribbean. When the ship makes this one way voyage, houston hotel cabins are usually sold at a significant discount to avoid sailing the ship without passengers. Amenities and services remain available onboard so you are not sacrificing on service, dining or being entertained. Since a repositioning cruise houston hotel departs from one port and terminates the sailing in another port, many people use the cruise as an alternative to flying to the destination. houston hotel We found this to be the case on our Panama to Fort Lauderdale voyage where several families rented a cheap inside cabin in additional to their sleeping cabin just to transport belongings between the two cities.
One of my favorite websites for daydreaming about this type of travel is Repositioningcruise.com . The lengthy list of repositioning cruises can be sorted by price, number of nights, departure ports, ship, sailing date and even price per night.
For our voyage, we upgraded houston hotel to an ocean view stateroom with a balcony on the refurbished Royal Caribbean Vision of the Seas ship. At a little over $500 for the two of us, it was just the right price point. The capacity of the ship is over 2,400 cruisers but for our sailing there were just over 900 passengers aboard. If you cruise a lot, you’ve probably experienced a ship so full that you couldn’t houston hotel even secure a lounge chair near the pool and a trip to the buffet required waiting in a long line. This was not the case on our recent voyage.
We enjoyed fine dining, excellent live shows nightly, spa treatments, relaxing by the pool, live music, free room service, drinking our morning coffee while watching the sea go by, champagne art auction, soaking in the sauna/steam room/hot tubs and numerous additional activities. I probably consumed enough escargot and fresh seafood to equal the cost of our cruise. With the ship less than half full, it was easy to move around and participate in all that was offered with a great deal of comfort. The ship was about half Americans and one third Panamanians with the remaining passengers from all other parts of the world. All announcements were in Spanish and English. The cruise houston hotel was very good value and a great time. While I’m not much of a cruiser, I certainly enjoyed this one.
Other deals on Repositioning Cruise.com include a 13-night cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona starting at $369. Some of the passengers on our ship were continuing on this sailing as it was the same Royal Caribbean ship. Another repositioning cruise deal is offered houston hotel for sailings along the west coast from Los Angeles/San Francisco/San Diego to Vancouver, B.C. currently at $199 for three and four night sailings. Or try the cruise from New Jersey houston hotel to San Juan, Puerto Rico; a six night event for $409.
If you’d like to try a repositioning cruise you can check with each cruise line as most have these cruises available. Cruisecritic  also lists some examples of repositioning cruises and gives some tips for taking these types of cruises.

Not always. I did a reposition from Fort Lauderdale to Montreal in May. We stopped in 3 U.S. ports and 7 ports in Canada which included and overnight in Quebec City. I also did a reposition from Fort Lauderdale houston hotel to Rome in May. Stopped in Ponta Delgado, Lisbon, Cadiz, Malaga, Catagena, Barcelona, and Rome. It s easy to tack on another med cruise right after or spend a few days in Rome and jump on another boat.
Great example houston hotel and you are so right, some repositioing cruises are just like normal ones when it comes to ammenities, food, and entertainment but can be better because of the different cities at which they stop. Thank you for posting.
If you look at the example above, you ll see a 4 night cruise with stops in Astoria and Vancouver. Some repositioning cruises just go from point A to point B but many have port stops. Thank you for commenting.
I ve done these 4/5 nights between San Diego and Vancouver (north and south) many times. They re inexpensive and makes for nice short vacation. I booked a suite a couple of times ( $150/night/pp) just to check it out plus it gave me double cruise credits.
Yes. I got to visit smaller towns in Canada that are not on HAL s summer run between Boston and Montreal. Also got visit cities in Europe that I haven t been before. The Europe houston hotel one spent 6 days at seas before hitting the first port. I like the sea days first to decompress and just relax from work stress. This cruise left in early May and the weather was calm. I see that they leave in early/mid April in 2015.
CAUTION: As always, do your research! The re-positioning site took me to cruisesfromvancouver. From there I selected the June 22 Celebrity cruise to Alaska. Their price for a suite was $2099. The same suite on the same cruise on the Celebrity houston hotel website was $1449.

Back in 2011, our repos , FLL to Barcelona (HA) via Madeira, Cadiz, Alicante y Cartagena was for me (a ancient salty veteran of 6 Translant crossing in ships of the Haze Grey and Underway line) was the best time I ve spent at sea (since the halcyon days of youth). There s no greater relaxation than sea days , in an empty mid-ocean, wine of the balcony houston hotel at 2 bells of the First Dog, with a postprandial brandy houston hotel in the same chair, in the rack before the Midwatch relieves, but as for the last 50 years, awakening at 7 bells of the Mid expecting the messenger s flashlight summoning me to relieve the OOD.
