The New York Auto Show is over, signaling the end of yet another highly successful auto show season, unless, of course, you're Suzuki. For some, there's still the Shanghai show, where we'll get to see all the latest midsize luxury sedans with slightly longer wheelbases. I also highly recommend next month's Africa cheap airlineticket Auto Show (officially called cheap airlineticket the "Automotives and Spare Parts Exhibition") in Nairobi, where Toyota will show off a lightly-used 2001 Land Cruiser.
Of course, some of you may have missed the New York Auto Show because you were focusing on actual news, like the fact that North Korea is aiming weapons at us that may be able to hit the ocean, if there's a tailwind. cheap airlineticket Fortunately, I've compiled a summary of the most important things I learned from New York.
The new Acura MDX has some sort of V6 and some new features. You don't care about any of that. What you do care about that Acura says the new MDX's suspension was tested at the Nurburgring. Truly. This was in the press release. The reasons for this are completely unknown, but now you can show up all those losers who come to the track in a Highlander, which was only tested on Road America.
Apparently cheap airlineticket following a careful review of the Ford Mustang lineup, Chevrolet decided the Camaro needs more retro-themed special editions. So New York brought us the Camaro Z/28 , which Chevy says is "three seconds cheap airlineticket per lap" faster than the ZL1. Unfortunately, the Chevy press release forgot to mention where this lap occurred, presumably because cheap airlineticket the measurement was taken two days before the show on I-696 in Southfield. Chevy will reportedly continue the retro-themed special edition trend at next year's West Virginia Auto Show when it revives the IROC-Z.
The latest Honda Odyssey is available with a vacuum cleaner to clean up after messy children. Unfortunately, the vacuum is only offered on the $45,000 Touring Elite mode, meaning less fortunate children will have to continue picking up after themselves.
The debut of the Infiniti QX60 Hybrid taught me something amazing. Last year's Infiniti JX is the QX60, while the FX is the QX70 even though it's smaller . And the former QX56 is now the QX80, though it reportedly won't be adopting an 8-liter engine. This makes about as much sense as creating a two-door, convertible version of your midsize crossover. Really, though: at some point, cheap airlineticket Nissan and Infiniti are just going to run a full-page ad in the New York Times saying "SURPRISE! Just Kidding!" right?
After years of begging people to buy the XKR-S, Jaguar is adding another performance model to the XK range. This one is called the XKR-S GT and features, among other things, more letters in its name. Limited to 25 units for the US, the XKR-S GT will start at $175,000, virtually assuring its future at Indianapolis Raceway Park .
The biggest debut was the coldly-received Jeep Cherokee , which reminds automakers that when consumers say "we don't want mainstream" they really mean "we only want mainstream." Personally, I don't think it's that bad. But we'll all be able to judge for ourselves this fall when the airport Enterprise runs out of Escapes.
The new Mitsubishi Mirage reminds us that Mitsubishi does, in fact, still exist, but barely. Reportedly packing a 73-horsepower four-cylinder, the Mirage seems poised to attack the Chevy Spark and Nissan Versa in the in the notoriously profitable "cars that cost eleven grand" segment.
The Range Rover Sport now has three rows of seats, which inspired a collective round of applause from Long Island's North Shore. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the Range Rover's fake door-mounted fender vents; instead, Land Rover made the bold decision to include an actual vent on the actual fender.
From the "I can't believe they still sell this" files, the Scion tC is updated cheap airlineticket for the 2014 model year with new front and rear fascias and, bizarrely, cheap airlineticket one less horsepower. These changes will give the tC one more year of strong cheap airlineticket sales before it's dramatically outsold by a two-year-old FR-S.
The 2015 Volkswagen cheap airlineticket Golf brought home VW's fourth World Car of the Year award in five years, not that VW's counting or plotting world domination or anything. Interestingly, it won the award even though American shoppers have yet to drive the car and reject it in favor of the Jetta.
Volvo is bringing the handsome V60 to the US, finally giving it a contender in the hotly contested cheap airlineticket Acura TSX Sport Wagon segment. It gets better: there will be a plug-in hybrid, Volvo's first, which means guilty liberals can finally swap out their 240DL for a new car.
We'll miss New York. But we'll always remember this auto show season as the one that gave us some of today's top cars, and also yet another Acura NSX Concept. Unless, of course, we're wiped out by the North Koreans.
Doug DeMuro operates PlaysWithCars.com . He's owned an E63 AMG wagon, road-tripped across the US in a Lotus without air conditioning, and posted a six-minute lap time on the Circuit de Monaco in a rented Ford Fiesta. One year after becoming Porsche Cars North America's cheap airlineticket youngest manager, he quit to become a writer. His parents are very disappointed.
cheap airlineticket Ah North Korea, The The Onion of nations. I would say there s never anything newsworthy cheap airlineticket about their constant posturing, except for the little matter of our allies in Japan and South Korea being perhaps just close enough to actually be harmed by whatever Soviet-derived trash the North Koreans still have on hand.
The Norks always make noise when they want something. They get belligerent, and the rest of the world gives them food or money or something to make them less belligerent and so they get to stave off mass starvation for a little while longer.
North Korea is really a war between China and the USA. Without CHINA backing them, they d have faded from this earth long ago probably from starvation alone. This is an economic war and North Korea is a Chinese proxy state. America is LOSING because we basically can t muscle the Chinese due to their economic position above us.
Do you really think the Chinese need us less than we need them? They would be screwed six ways to Sunday without the continuing influx of our money. We COULD make our own crap, the Chinese can afford to buy their own crap. It is about the most co-dependent relationship the world has ever seen, and I cannot imagine the Chinese are stupid enough to tip over the apple cart. They are NOT Communists, if anything they are some sort of wildly Capitalist dictatorship.
Do you or did you have kids? If you don t or haven t, just wait. A vehicle with a built in vac would be great. The only mistake is not offering cheap airlineticket it on the lower trim lines. Come on, Honda. An LX gets just as dirty as a Touring Elite! I would pay $300 or whatever as a stand alone option, dealer installed cheap airlineticket option, etc. But, this being Honda, it will take a while for that to happen, if ever.
The day will come when I can outlaw eating in the car. Mine are in car seats right now and most of the time they don t eat, but they do on longer trips. They will make a mess, it s guaranteed. Nothing big, crackers, fruit snacks, but being able to do a touch up cleaning on the road would be nice.
I ll hit it with the shop vac at home, coin op as a last resort, but it would be nice to have the capability on board. These vans are so similar that the manufacturers must be looking for any edge, however slight.
So the QX56 is getting an increase of 24 and the others are getting name changes that don t match their relative size. This would be like Audi taking cheap airlineticket a long look at its model names and saying Nah, this makes too much sense. Let s be more like Lincoln.
What new Mitsubishi? The Mirage is OLD!! It s been on sale in Japan for years. Look at its door handles. It s straight from the 1990s. The car s probably designed cheap airlineticket when these were still the norm. Sadly, new Mitsubishi seem to have been extinct.
If the Cherokee competes against any RR it competes against the Evoque. The Grand Cherokee already crushes the RR Sport and RR. Plus Jeep still offers the Wrangler, while LR is killing the real Defender and likely replacing it with a softroader.
Assuming the price isn t insane, technically, the 7.0 should be cheaper then the supercharged 6.2, those superchargers aren t cheap, where as the 7.0 is a basic design that s been perfected with it s siblings.
Just got back form the show ( day one for us non auto writers ) and must say the most interesting car was the new Mazda 6, loaded is about 31K , well appointed is about 26 K nice looking car, the new vette looks better in person than pics but still not my cup of tea. Almost had a heart attack when I looked at the price of the BMW z4- optioned up to over 61K Holy S***. Looked at the Infinity display and still do not know what they are naming cars and this is after seeing cheap airlineticket them all in display. I did look for the Honda vac but did not see it, great idea if it is not to bulky
GM killed it took over a whole wing for themselves. Z28, Camaro SS, new CTS, CTS-V it was spectacular. Disappointed they wouldn t let you in or near some models. Sexy hot chick explained the ELR but all the info went over the men s heads as we were staring at her legs.
Also gotta give props to JEEP for setting up a thrill ride in front of the Javits center. Chrysler s SRT show was awesome, but I think their placement wasn t that great. As I walked in I ran into the Jaguar XJR and Hyundai CL Ripoff HCD-14 almost immediately.
Not sure how, but of all the cars I saw, I did not see the new WRX. I didn t go to the basement to see the
