The Washington Nationals dropped two of three in Los Angeles and after the 3-1 loss to the Dodgers last night, Nats' skipper Davey Johnson announced that Ross Detwiler had back spasms and Wilson Ramos is likely headed back to the DL after re-injuring his hamstring.
After a blown first and third, no out opportunity in the top of the eighth of a one-run game on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, the Washington Nationals were 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position, with three straight batters ( Adam LaRoche , Ian Desmond and Kurt Suzuki ), failing to drive in what would have been the game-tying run. The Dodgers , of course, promptly got a leadoff single and stolen base from Matt Kemp , who moved around to third and scored on a sac fly by Carl Crawford to make it 3-1 Dodgers a half-inning later. That's how the series finale would end. 3-1 LA.
The Nats dropped two of three on the road in Dodger Stadium. They fell to 21-19 overall on a night a win could have tied them for first in the NL East after an Atlanta loss in Arizona left the Braves 22-18. The defending NL East Champs also lost Wilson Ramos to another hamstring injury in the third game of three in Los Angeles and had Ross Detwiler leave early with back spasms which ended his eighth start after just three innings.
"Well, Ramos reinjured the same hamstring," Davey Johnson told reporters after the loss . "He's got the same identical place. So he's going to be down for a while." Detwiler appeared uncomfortable after making an odd catch on a throw behind him while he ran to cover first on an Adrian rome italy walking tours Gonzalez groundout in the bottom of the third. "Det's not as severe," the Nats' skipper said, "He had spasms [in his lower back] and was getting some shooting pains, but they think they can take care of that."
"Evidently he kind of twisted to get to the throw that he was late covering first," the Nationals' manager explained, "and kind of tweaked it, but hopefully he won't miss a start." Johnson said the Nats' trainers, "... felt pretty good after they treated [Detwiler] a little bit, that it was subsiding, so the big blow is [Ramos]. [He] was just getting in a pretty good groove and it happened again."
Ramos was placed on the 15-Day DL back in mid-April when he first injured his left hamstring running out a groundout in a game against Atlanta in D.C. The 25-year-old catcher returned after 15 days on the DL and was 6 for 28 in eight games after two at bats tonight before re-injuring his hamstring. "I think we're going to have to be a little more cautious with it, unfortunately," Johnson said. "But it's been, I mean, he's been back playing for a week, ten days, something like that, and I thought he was by it. Fact is, I was going to play him three days in a row to get him feeling good."
The Nationals' manager said he thought it was likely that Jhonatan Solano could come up again as he did last time Ramos went on the DL, but the 27-year-old catcher just returned from his own 7-Day stay on the DL with an ankle injury.
