On Tuesday we used the term deja vu all over again in our handicap of the Dodgers over the Diamondbacks and we ll introduce a different cliche in today s handicap. Sometimes baseball betting is just a matter of the old if it ain t broke, don t fix it approach. If something is working and working well there s no reason to overcomplicate things and abandon it. That ll be the theme of our handicap today as the Dodgers conclude a three game series with the Diamondbacks. The Dodgers are on the verge of sweeping Arizona and have little reason not to take this game seriously they ve cut their deficit in the NL West to 2.5 games and a victory here would leave them 1.5 games back of the division lead. Arizona has a favorable matchup over the weekend as they begin a four game series against Milwaukee while the Dodgers have a somewhat tougher draw at Chavez Ravine against travel for cheap the Colorado Rockies. Not that any of the Dodgers recent foes have given them much trouble as they ve won 14 of their last 17 games.
Truth be told, the Dodgers haven t done well against left handers this season (-8.2 units) travel for cheap but like so many of their other full season stats they re just not indicative travel for cheap of the way the team is playing now. They re still down -9.9 units for the year, for example, so all of this just reflects the size of the hole they d dug for themselves early on. Arizona s lefthanders travel for cheap made mincemeat of the Colorado Rockies travel for cheap last weekend but it s unlikely travel for cheap they ll do the same to this red hot Dodgers team. The D-Backs start Tyler Skaggs here and he s looked decent in limited action this season particularly at home where he s posted a 2.37 ERA in three home starts. He ll be opposed by LA lefty Hyun-Jin Ryu who has been solid all year with a 2.82 ERA. The Dodgers have won 11 of his 17 starts this season very significant for a team that was downright lousy for most of the early going. Like the team as a whole, Ryu s best baseball may be yet to come.
Usually we look more deeply into the statistics and situational matchups travel for cheap but a) they re misleading when it comes to the Dodgers and b) there s just no good reason to get off the Dodgers express at this point.
