repainting. Our room was facing the parking lot and as such had no natural light. The walls were thin so you could hear next door. Also you hear people arriving back in the night, being loud, having a good time (how very dare they!!!) The bed was comfy and in general the rooms were clean. On our floor a couple of times the room service left overs were left outside hotel rooms all day. Dirty towels were left near the room - I may be being picky but this was not adding to a good experience.
The location of the stratosphere is not good, you cannot walk to the main part of the strip you have to catch the monorail or bus. This isn t a big deal, but does add 30-45mins before you get anywhere. If you want to be close to Freemont street - then stay in Freemont street, you will get quality hotel for your buck.
The Casino feels tired, I know you smoke inside at Vagas but other casinos manage to mask the smell of smoke where as with the Stratosphere as soon as you walk in you are hit with the smell of stale smoke!! Not for me!
I found the staff at the Stratosphere Hotel the coldest and most unhelpful than anywhere I had visited up until this point. I had enquired about upgrading twice, explaining I was getting married and would perhaps like to upgrade to a larger room, or one not facing the parking lot ( where a motorbike had spent 1 hour revving his engine at 2am in the morning ) to make the evening feel special. I was made to feel this was an inconvenience - it was a busy weekend! Not at all a warm interaction at any point at the front desk. I later found out that a friend from the UK had arranged for a bottle of champers to be delivered to our room on our wedding night - this had not shown up.

The new furnishings are not high class but very acceptable. Check-in was fairly quick (for a Las Vegas hotel) and the receptionist very last minute cruise deals friendly and knowledgeable. We stayed for five days. My family used all the attractions connected with the hotel and had a lot of fun on top of the tower (access is free for hotel guests). The buffet is not as good anymore as it was ten years ago and of course more expensive, but one of the smaller restaurants (I forgot the name) really delivered the goods.
