I rarely leave negative feedback, but I had a very unpleasant experience with Spendless Car Rentals

Hiring from the companies located on-site Melbourne s Tullamarine airport (Avis, Hertz, Budget, Thrifty or Europcar) will incur you a 17% Premium Location Fee which you can avoid by either hiring from Melbourne city (of course) or the independent car hire companies located about 5 minutes off-site. Amongst these, we ve filtered stowe vermont inns through the duds and overpriced to find the ones with the best rates.
stowe vermont inns With over 20 years of history, stowe vermont inns East Coast Car Rentals have recently stowe vermont inns expanded to serve Melbourne Tullamarine stowe vermont inns Airport. With unlimited mileage included in all their rentals, they offer likely one of the best rates across all vehicle sizes from the economy Toyota Yaris hatchback stowe vermont inns (manual), mid-sized Toyota Corolla sedan, standard Toyota Camry, Mitsubishi Outlander SUV and Kia Carnival van.
The standard damage stowe vermont inns liability is A$3000 that will cost A$13.20/day or less to lower to A$200. Being a few minutes off-site, they will arrange a courtesy shuttle to transfer you to and from Tullamarine Airport. Placing a booking online will require you to input your credit card details but you will only be charged when you arrive at their depot for your pickup.
The prices you can find via Bargain Wheels are certainly competitive especially for rentals 3 days and under after taking into account they include unlimited km s (as offered by Spendless Car Rentals). stowe vermont inns They are located just 3 minutes off-site and offer free pickup and return service from both the airport or your local accommodation.
stowe vermont inns Or, depending on how comfortable you are with the idea, you could go for their used cars for some extra savings (e.g. a 7-day rental for a mid-size may cost you A$230 for a new car but only A$200 for a used car) but you probably run a higher risk of running into car problems. For anything larger than the mid-sized Toyota Corolla stowe vermont inns sedan, they only carry used cars. They have a collision damage liability/excess of A$2500 and an extra A$15/day reduces it to A$350.
Rent for 2 or more days and there s a good chance you ll find decent savings stowe vermont inns (particularly stowe vermont inns on Compact Toyota Corolla hatchbacks, Intermediate Corolla sedans and the Standard-sized Toyota Camry and Vans). Their rates include only 250km/day with a standard Collision Damage Liability on cars of A$2750 that can be lowered to A$550 for A$16/day (which is cheaper than the Big Boys who charge between A$25-27/day) and they offer a free customer pick-up and return service to the airport. A cheaper Metro Package is also offered on a small hatchback for city-drivers who don t need more than 100km/day.
With 500km s included per day, Alpha may be the cheapest for a Family-sized car like the Toyota Camry. Any extra mileage is charged stowe vermont inns at 27.5 cents/km although you ll be hard-pressed to exceed that allowance! Alpha s standard collision damage liability comes in at A$3300. If you want to lower this, their cheapest liability reduction option costs A$17.33/day to get your excess down to A$550, getting cheaper the longer you rent.
Airport Rent-a-Car s hatchbacks are often are cheaper than the Big Boys (particularly during non-holiday periods where they offer 10% discounts at the time of writing, this is being offered in June and July 2011). The rentals include 500km/day stowe vermont inns (A$0.25/extra km). Their standard Collision Damage Liability is a little high at A$3300 which you can reduce to A$330 for A$23/day (yes, that s pricey and we strongly recommend you look at alternative rental car insurance options). Located 5 minutes off-site, they offer free pickups from the airport. The site is somewhat wordy so you ll need to scroll down a little stowe vermont inns to get to the booking section.
I can see why you have only 29 followers on twitter Airport stowe vermont inns Rentacar and Alpha Car Rental are the same company East Coast car rentals are not even a Victorian Registered business (which they are required to be). All your independant car rental recomendations for Victoria/Melbourne/Melbourne stowe vermont inns Airport are Queenslanders and Queensland organisations including BargainWheels. You need to do your homework, and look more closely at truly Victorian Melbourne based Independant Car Rental Companies there a quite a few that leave these Qland Companies you recomend well behind.
The reason why those companies are listed is only because in the course of researching, their prices have proved to offer value as compared to the major car hire companies (Avis, Hertz, etc). It was pure chance our findings resulted in a majority of QLD-owned companies for Melbourne. And whether Airport Rent-a-car stowe vermont inns and Alpha are owned by the same company, if the prices or terms on their website differ (and they do), it s worth listing both since a renter may find a better suited deal on one site vs. the other.
The original idea wasn t to find Melbourne-based companies for Melbourne, but any value independent company serving Melbourne i.e. if a Queensland company offers a competitive price in Victoria, it will be included stowe vermont inns since the customer probably stowe vermont inns isn t too fussed where the company is registered. The idea of independent companies is simply that they aren t some global foreign-owned enterprise.
We try to uncover sites which are easy to book online and offer value. Naturally, in the course of researching, there may be other gems out there that have been overlooked but it s not on purpose or monetary-motivated. We re always open to recommendations for us to look into because as I said, our goal IS to advise readers on the best value companies. So, since it appears you know what you re talking about in Melbourne/VIC, we would appreciate it if you could give us a list of better companies that will leave the ones we have listed behind in the dust, as you say. That way, we can make some constructive changes.
It s true we don t have many followers on Twitter stowe vermont inns but we haven t really stowe vermont inns quite pushed stowe vermont inns it at all. I reckon our site is still pretty small-time stowe vermont inns and not getting hoards of traffic to garner a huge following at this point. In fact, why don t you follow us? Hah! We re just trying to make the car hire maze an easier one to navigate and always trying to improve.
stowe vermont inns Luke: Thank you for taking the time to voice your support! It definitely counts Am glad we were able to open up your options. I would also advise you to read the article on car hire insurance stowe vermont inns if that s something you re considering getting there s potentially significant savings to be made there too! It s non-hating folks like you that make the work on this site worth it!
Hi. Thanks for posting these, but here s my warning against stowe vermont inns booking with an independent. Watch out for their cancellation policies, (which the big car hire companies don t have they don t even ask for your credit stowe vermont inns card details when you make a booking).
I rarely leave negative feedback, but I had a very unpleasant experience with Spendless Car Rentals at Tullamarine, Melbourne. As happens, my travel plans were cancelled, and I had to cancel my car hire too. Knowing that their offices were closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day, I called on the 27th giving 6 days notice instead of 7, was told that was all fine and my credit card would be re-credited the following day, and then opened my emails to find I d been charged a $60 cancellation fee!! Upon following up I was told I should have cancelled earlier even though I couldn t because their offices were shut. Don t give your credit card details to this company, and think twice before taking the cheap option.
Anna: Sorry to hear about your experience and thanks for sharing your story with us. It s unfortunate when companies don t fully understand the importance of good customer service. Not all independents are bad news though, it s just even more important that one takes the time to fully understand their terms conditions. Sometimes, it s a bit of a luck game too. Cheers.

This question doesn t really have a clear-cut answer.  Really, Egypt is great to visit all year-roun

We were recently asked on our Facebook page a questions about visiting Egypt and I thought it would be a good idea to answer those questions through a blog post so everyone can find the answers easily!
This question doesn t really have a clear-cut answer.  Really, Egypt is great to visit all year-round depending on what you re coming for.  If you re coming for history and want to visit the sites in Luxor, Aswan, and Abu Simbel (the region known as Upper Egypt), then I would definitely recommend the cooler months of October through April.  The region is located pretty far to the south which means it can get very, very hot, especially in the summer months.  If your aim is to visit the beach, however, the summer months may be a great time to visit!  While the beaches offer great temperatures five star hotels in singapore all year long, and it can get hot in the summer, generally it is still the best diving, snorkeling, swimming and tanning time.  However, if you re interested in desert camping in the Sahara, five star hotels in singapore September through February are probably the best months, since you won t be dealing with scorching heat or creepy crawlies like snakes and scorpions.  Be prepared though, depending on the month, it can get very cold.
Again, this depends on the activity and how intense five star hotels in singapore you want your time to be.  For history buffs, five star hotels in singapore you could live here and not see everything.  So I would recommend spending about 2 weeks if you want to visit as many historical sites as possible.  This would include five star hotels in singapore a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, a visit to Abu Simbel, a trip to Alexandria, and visits to the Pyramids in the Cairo/Giza area.  If you want to enjoy the desert, 2 more days are good enough.  For the beach, I d say you could spend about 4-5 days there as well.  All in all, if you re looking five star hotels in singapore to experience as much as possible, I d say 3 weeks is a good amount five star hotels in singapore of time.
Very simply, the 2 best places to see the mummies of the great pharaohs are the Valley of the Kings (some select tombs), and the Mummy Room and the Egyptian Museum.  Both of these will have special five star hotels in singapore entrance fees (Egyptian Museum Mummy Room is LE 100 each, and the Valley of the King s King Tut s tomb is also LE 100 each).  Other than that, it ll be somewhat more difficult.  Be prepared for lots of crowds though!
My name is Mona and I'm a writer/blogger at Tour Egypt. Egyptian five star hotels in singapore by ethnicity, I was born and raised on the east coast of the United States, five star hotels in singapore living in New Jersey and Massachusetts my entire life. Three years ago, I decided to move to Egypt, on my own, and experience what it is like to live in such an incredible country. I have a degree in Hospitality Administration, I love "The Office" and Welch's Grape Juice, and I really enjoy baking. These are my experiences and tips for Egypt.

Located on Lake Nassar we caught a glimpse of this monument from our ferry to the Sudan.  The staff

We were recently in Seattle talking palladium hotels and resorts with the executives of Expedia.com and while all of them are well travelled and have been all over the world. palladium hotels and resorts When we told them they were going to Egypt next, they talked of how it was either their favourite destination or for those who hadn't been there, their dream destination.
In honour of our current trip to Cairo where we are speaking to the tourism industry about working with Travel Bloggers, we thought that we would revisit our favourite sites in Egypt. We spent a few weeks there before and during our cycling race from the top of Africa to the bottom of the continent and we are so excited to be going back to see more!
We hired a camel, a horse and a guide to take us to see the pyramids. Weaving through the back streets of Cairo on our trusted steeds, palladium hotels and resorts we entered what seemed like a shady opening to the grounds. Are we going to get anywhere near them? Well actually yes!
After touring around the 3 main temples, they took us to a high dune overlooking the complex. Yes, we were being scammed and taken to the cleaners by the nice old man that kept layering us in robes and head dresses, but even though it cost us a bit of cash, we couldn't put a price on securing this photo.
We arranged a $15 a day tour to the White Desert through the Dahab Guesthouse in downtown Cairo. It ended up being an incredible trip. We were told, if there is one thing you should do in Cairo, it is see the White Desert. We listened and it didn't palladium hotels and resorts disappoint.
Giant White structures jutted out of the desert landscape creating incredible formations. Brought on by erosion, these chalky mounds create the illusion of massive mushrooms, eagles and turkeys and even one that looks like a camel.
Experiencing a true Bedouin experience, we camped out under the stars. With just 3 walls made of blankets to blog the cold desert wind, we slept under thick sleeping bags and blankets grateful for the warm tea that our guides made us after our delicious Bedouin meal.
Located on Lake Nassar we caught a glimpse of this monument from our ferry to the Sudan.  The staff of the ferry told us to make sure we were out early in the morning to witness this wonder as we passed by.
Originally located on The Nile, Abu Simbel palladium hotels and resorts needed to be moved when the Egyptians created the Nile Dam project. It would have been engulfed by water never to be seen again until the government came to its rescue taking it apart piece by piece and rebuilding it high on the banks of the lake.
When in Cairo, you must book a dinner cruise on the Nile. It is here that you can sample Egyptian entertainment such as belly dancing and the Whirling Dervishes. Pass along the cityscape while you enjoy authentic Egyptian cuisine and imagine what legendary heroes and villains floated along these waters over the centuries.
We were all fascinated with King Tut as children and it is here that you can visit his tomb. It is here that you can visit every King of the Pharoahs tombs. Ramses, I-V and everyone else in between were laid to rest here in extravagant tombs filled with riches and jewels.
It is impossible to imagine that the Nile reached the grounds of this temple complex and that the area surrounding it was lush and green. Today the desert is dry, but the temple is no less impressive.
So your Egypt holidays are going great.  You've done a Nile dinner cruise in Cairo, now its time to feel the wind in your hair on a sail boat in Luxor. We simply walked down to the river to find ourselves a boat for the afternoon. We walked along until we found a captain we felt comfortable with and negotiated a deal for him to take us out for a few hours.
When visiting Egypt, you will  check of many of those items on your bucket list. For us it was Sleep in the Desert, Sail on the Nile, See the Pyramids and Visit King Tuts tomb. We did it all and what do you do when you've accomplished something?

I often call Europe “the wading pool of world exploration.” A city like Cairo isn’t the wading pool.

I just flew from Seattle to Cairo. After being here for just a day, it seems like a week. Of course, I swung by the pyramids, got my mug shot with the Sphinx, and rode a camel. But the real fun has been feeling the pulse of post-revolutionary Egypt in the chaotic streets of ancient Egypt, nothing about life survives. No palaces — only tombs. But experiencing and exploring today's Egypt is all about life: struggling, finessing, surviving, embracing.
The big news this decade: a people's revolution to replace the 30-year dictatorship discount broadway tickets wicked of Hosni Mubarak with the only alternative well-organized enough to win an election, the Muslim Brotherhood and the resulting nervousness about what the current government's true vision for the people is.
The revolution in Egypt is clearly discount broadway tickets wicked about freedom. With my guide, Hammad, I take a welcome-to-Cairo stroll under once-elegant French facades that seem battered to a pulp and caked in soot. Watching a car pull a U-turn into oncoming traffic, Hammad points out the fine line between freedom and chaos: discount broadway tickets wicked A four-lane street is now a two-lane street with clothing sales racks swinging under commercial neon, constricting traffic. Women in scarves browse through displays of daring dresses, ignoring the commotion filling the sidewalks.
A merchant tells me, "People can talk freely about our government now. Before the revolution, bite your tongue. discount broadway tickets wicked But our revolution is only just starting. discount broadway tickets wicked We have much left to do." While the country has veered in the direction of fundamentalism and religious rule, the people are most disappointed not with the new religious fervor but with simple incompetence. There's a pretty clear consensus on the streets: People think the guys in power simply don't know how to rule. They've managed to put up racks of free books about Islam at all of the tourist attractions, but have yet to figure out how to organize the streets or even collect the garbage.
Tourism is vital for the Egyptian discount broadway tickets wicked economy. Oil-rich countries can afford their crazy leaders: Ahmadinejad, Chávez, Gaddafi discount broadway tickets wicked — Iran, Venezuela, and Libya all had oil to fund their crazy and corrupt discount broadway tickets wicked ways of governing. But Egypt has little oil, and its economy is in crisis. Egypt needs tourism. The tourist industry here directly employs four million people, and indirectly supports many, many more. I say, "The airport was quiet today." Hammad says, "That's not the word. It is dead." He points to a towering Sofitel Hotel and says, "Only two floors are open out of 20. This is killing us.
I saw a few German cruise groups at the pyramids, but I didn't see an American tourist discount broadway tickets wicked all day. And yet, while tourists are scarce, there are masses of locals everywhere. The city is absolutely teeming. Working my way through discount broadway tickets wicked chaotic traffic back to the refuge of my hotel, I thought, "Egypt is too intense discount broadway tickets wicked for many, but I'm really glad I'm here."
I often call Europe "the wading pool of world exploration." A city like Cairo isn't the wading pool. It's the deep end — and someone discount broadway tickets wicked turned on the jets. If you can swim, the water's great. But if you're not quite ready to dive in, follow me here on my blog for some armchair Egyptian adventures. Starting today, and for the next two weeks or so, I'll be sharing a couple of posts a day, including video clips, so you and I will be riding discount broadway tickets wicked the same camel.
This just looks fantastic. We have always loved to travel when no one else does. And this is a perfect time. But how would you suggest as a traveler just going to Egypt? You have the resources and the connections to go there and feel safe. I can t imagine just landing in Cairo, and just going from there on your own.
Cairo Egyptians allowed this to happen by attacking women. Even today its young men continue to attack women. And the Muslim Brotherhood is complicit. And the new constitution is designed to make Egypt an ideological pariah. Tourism, yes. Friendly, maybe?
Two years after the Arab Spring where people cheered Mubarak s overthrow, and naïve commentators talked discount broadway tickets wicked about democracy in Egypt, what Egypt has instead is severe economic decline as a result of a Muslim Brotherhood government that even critics of Murbarak acknowledge is even worse then Mubarak s rule. There is no freedom and not just to women and Christian Copts but everybody who criticizes the current government. The US should not be giving 1.5 BILLION DOLLARS in continued aid to this country. While it is unfortunate that a decline in tourism is affecting their economy, tour operators should not be encouraging Americans to spend their hard earned money in such a volatile country right now until there is a change in leadership that respects human rights.
Thanks for posting here and not just on FB. From your photos there are a lot more women in head scarves than when I was there in 2000 (when Cairo airport was a mob scene). what s your impression of the scarf to no scarf ratio? Any burkas?
I m glad to see you branching out. As much as I love Europe, there is a big diverse fascinating world beyond Europe s doors. discount broadway tickets wicked I look forward to someday traveling with a Rick Steve s Guidebook to Egypt, Israel and Jordan.
discount broadway tickets wicked My husband and I visited Egypt in 2008 for two weeks. We traveled on our own from Cairo to Aswan to Luxor and back to Cairo. We went by train, and while it was a different experience, I wouldn t trade it. We loved talking to the people, and they were genuinely glad to see us. I have read a couple of places that there is talk of destroying the monuments. I m also concerned that without Zahi Harwass at the helm, the tombs and such may not be preserved. Whatever anyone thinks of him, he loves the ancient monuments and tombs.
We spent time in Alexandria and Luxor in November, 2012. It was sad to hear from our guides and drivers discount broadway tickets wicked of the decline in cleanliness discount broadway tickets wicked and public services since the changeover in government. The lack of sanitation in Alexandria was worse than when we were there in 2000. The Egyptian people, and particularly our female Egyptian guide seemed really worried about the loss of freedom they are experiencing.
The sites in Luxor are still great and worth the effort to get to, but as infrastructure disintegrates and a female guide is harassed by militants (as we witnessed twice) tourism will get much harder.
We took a tour to Egypt in December 2010 and had an amazing time. In response to the Hawkers , our guide advised us no, is the start of a conversation and if we not interested in purchasing to keep walking and not make eye contact and to never go into a shop because you would not get out without a purchase. It worked. He also said that since 9/11 he has had to get up to speed on his religion to answer the questions of travelers and the outfall is that he is a more religious man today. Our guide s wife was also a tour guide and her our journey has taken her to wearing the head scarf. This is a choice she has made. Two of our friends discount broadway tickets wicked were booked to travel on the same trip in March of 2011. One of them cancelled and the other took the trip and said it was so interesting and she felt safe the whole time plus there were no tourists and she loved that. In truth, I wished I had gone back with her and when the rest of my bucket list is complete I am going back! Wonderful country, interesting time in their history, and such a beautiful people looking for what is right for them.
Rick, thanks for embarking on this exploratory trip. I hope you can address two key questions for my travel plans: 1) how is it for a 60-year-old obviously white woman to walk around Cairo or to get honest service in cafes? 2) how are conditions around the STEP PYRAMID and the BENT PYRAMID? I am keen to see these, but they are endangered by rebel encampment towns. ?? Thanks, Ellen.
We were in Egypt in Oct/Nov of last year. Rich's blog is "spot on" how it feels on the streets of Cairo. We were there during some unrest, but never felt unsafe, thanks to our amazing guide, Mustafa. Because of the economy, a guide and driver were very reasonable and worth every penny. We saw places in a few days that would have taken a week on our own.
I got the impression many Egyptians do not back the Muslim Brotherhood and believe Morsi did not actually win the election. If I felt like I was supporting the government of a country by traveling there, I might not go anywhere.
It is so wonderful to hear positive things about Egypt. I knew it wasn t as bad as Americans are saying. I work in the travel industry and have asked many of my Egpytian customers on a regular basis if it is safe for Americans to travel to Egypt, and everyone has said that it is. It is sad to hear that Cairo is suffering with their tourism industry. I suppose it is time for me to start planning discount broadway tickets wicked my trip, and perhaps discount broadway tickets wicked kiss a camel or two. HA!
My husband and I are two Americans living in Egypt and we welcome your visit with wide open arms. We are Diving discount broadway tickets wicked Instructors in Sharm el Sheikh and are passionate about this wonderful and beautiful country and want to share it with other Americans. We have hosted several visitors over the last 6 months and we always need to do a great deal of damage control due to incessant media reporting that makes it seem like the country is in total chaos before our guests arrival. Once our guests are here and have toured the country, they see that there are issues but that the situation is no where near as dangerous or risky as the media would have them believe. One of our guests was so inspired by her visit that she has started an education coalition between the US and Egypt. Exciting, positive things are happening here!
The country is in a transition period, experiencing democracy for the first time with an overwhelming desire to make life better for everyone leaving the population with frustration and impatience at the pace and direction of change.
Egyptian people discount broadway tickets wicked are warm and inviting and they love tourists, especially Americans! Tourism is extremely important to the country and also to the visitor. There are amazing treasures to be found here b

The former Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn cruise travel sold for $3 million compared with the estimated $100 million replacement cost. The Hyatt Regency Dearborn is under contract to be sold at $12.5 million compared with a $150 million replacement cost.
The value of these hotels has just disappeared because they aren't making a profit, said Chuck Skelton, president of Ann Arbor-based Hospitality Advisors Consulting Group Inc. They're not getting the rates they need, they're locked into union contracts cruise travel that require employees to be paid a high wage, and the occupancy is down.
The hotel's owner, Palm Beach-based Innkeepers USA Trust , filed bankruptcy for its 72-hotel portfolio. And while Marriott is working out a deal on the other 43 Marriott hotels cruise travel to remain in the chain, it wants nothing to do with the Troy property and has requested a court order to remove all Marriott signs by Aug. 30.
The price is low enough that RockBridge can afford to invest $8.5 million to upgrade to the full-service Sheraton brand. This comes after Sheraton was ready to cut ties with the hotel altogether, Merkel said.
The average local sale price, per room, is currently $14,400, cruise travel according to data from Bethesda, Md.-based CoStar cruise travel Group , down from peaks of $165,000 in the second quarter of 2007 and $216,600 in the third quarter of 2001.
The bright spot is that hotel occupancy is steadily increasing in 2010, according to STR. Local occupancy was 44.5 percent in January and has increased every month, with July showing 61.5 percent occupancy.
In Detroit, cruise travel 40 to 50 percent of the hotel business comes from group meetings, he said. While occupancy is coming back, it is going to be really hard to make up that gap of lost meeting business with an increase in commercial travel.
When the Ritz-Carlton Dearborn opened in 1989, it defied conventional wisdom on two fronts: First was the hotel's striking, dusty pink color that many thought more appropriate to the American Southwest. Second, it set out to prove a luxury hotel could make it financially cruise travel in Detroit's western suburbs. It was a gamble, though, and it took some persuading to get the people cruise travel from the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. to agree, said Wayne Doran, then head of Ford Motor Land Development Corp. , which developed the project. It was a bold move, but we had numbers to back us up, Doran said. We'd done a lot of economic research. We were able to show them that we weren't dreaming dreams that wouldn't work. But Doran never dreamed that the so-called Pink Palace of Dearborn would later set an eye-popping low sale price in 2010, selling for $3 million in a sale forced by Ritz-Carlton. When the hotel last changed hands, in 1998, its sale price was $64.8 million, still far less than the estimated $100 million it would cost to replace the property. A group of investors from Houston pooled $3 million and purchased the hotel in April with Denver-based Greenwood Hospitality Group to handle a transition of the property to its new name: The Henry. The new name pays homage to several well-known Dearborn titans named Henry, one of whom helped open the hotel. Henry Ford II cut the ribbon for the hotel in 1989. A second grand opening drew former President Gerald Ford, a symbol of the top-end clientele the hotel wanted cruise travel to go for. Later, the hotel was used for a range of presidential events and fundraisers. Doran said everything about the hotel was intended to make a bold statement about the strength of the western suburbs. Including the pink color of the building, he said, which was meant to be an architectural statement and designed to complement the burgundy hue of the Hyatt Regency cruise travel Dearborn nearby and the glass of the Ford headquarters. The hotel's management set out to charge the highest cruise travel rates in the region and get the glitziest fundraisers, said Michael O'Callaghan, who worked for a number of area hotels in the early 1990s and is currently COO of the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau . There was never any question that the property was going to be bigger than, better than, everyone in the market at that time, O'Callaghan said. The hotel community in Dearborn was doing well at that time, and the Hyatt-Ritz combination was a great one. It competed with other hotels, including cruise travel the then- Westin hotel at the Renaissance Center, creating a rivalry for taking the region's top banquets and black-tie events. But to be the quality leader, the rates had to be high. And the hotel and its massive staff were expensive to maintain, especially with frequent upgrades.
With the financial struggles of Ford and the rest of the automotive industry the hotel market struggled as well. And as the hotel market started to decline locally, the Ritz began discounting rates for rooms and services to stay competitive. Compounding things, the Ritz had an additional problem, which some have called the AIG effect for the fallout of insurance giant's documented corporate largess. Many corporations had a knee-jerk reaction to shy from any seemingly luxury cruise travel spending for fear of public relations cruise travel problems. Even though it discounted its rates to being less than the nearby Hyatt and Dearborn Inn , corporate travelers knew better than to have the high-end Ritz name on an expense report. In the past two years, the hotel started losing money and became a topic in conference calls by Bethesda, M.D.-based Host Hotels cruise travel & Resorts Inc. , which purchased the hotel from Ford Land in 1998 for $64.8 million. This asset is in one of the most challenging markets in the country, generates negative net operating income, and has significant capital needs, said Host President and CEO W. Edward Walter during an April conference call. One hotel investor who toured the hotel and reviewed the finances said the hotel lost $5 million in 2009. As hotels are often valued at a multiple of earnings, a net loss destroyed its value. But a sale was a must as Ritz told Host that if the hotel was not sold, Ritz would remove its name from the hotel. Tom Conran, a principal with new owner Greenwood Hospitality Group, said branding the hotel is the key change being made, along with a multimillion dollar renovation. He inked an alliance with Marriott International Inc. to make the hotel part of the new Autograph collection, through which the hotel was renamed The Henry. Not only did that move eliminate the AIG effect, Conran said, but it also gives the hotel access to the pool of Marriott customers. During the first 12 hours that we were online (with Marriott), we received 52 reservations, he said. We never would have received cruise travel those as a Ritz. Some estimates put the cost to build a similar hotel at $100 million 33 times the price paid. Conran said he expects to have the hotel profitable again by 2011, if not the fourth quarter of 2010. O'Callaghan hopes he's right. It's my hope, and a lot of people in this area, that in 12 months we're talking about how this hotel was rebranded and doing better, he said. Detroit Two city worker retirement funds filed suit Monday against another renting a car in germany investor in the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel, alleging it made a secret deal to get paid before the projects other creditors.
The suit stems from a 2006 financing deal worth more than $100 million to renovate the hotel, according to the funds lawyers. Detroits General Retirement System loaned the project $9 million and the citys Police and Fire Retirement System backed a $15 million loan. The Carpenters Pension Trust Fund was not a mortgage lender, but committed $17.2 million to the project for letters of credit, attorneys said.
Essentially the lowest priority lender, the Carpenters Pension Trust Fund, diverted money intended for the benefit of mortgage renting a car in germany lenders and the project and used it instead to buy the senior debt to the detriment of all other lenders including the city pension funds, Don Wagner, an attorney with Couzens, Lansky, said in a statement Monday. The firm is serving as special counsel to The Police and Fire Retirement System and General Retirement System.
As a result of the alleged renting a car in germany scheme, the Carpenters Pension Trust Fund and its affiliate jumped over six levels of mortgage lenders owed $57 million to the position of senior lender, and the project was deprived of more than $16.7 million that was intended to assure payment of the loans, Wagner said.
The suit also claims the Carpenters Pension Trust Fund affiliate changed the terms of the senior loan agreement, requiring the borrower to apply all of its net cash to repay the affiliate, and waiving the borrowers obligation to maintain renting a car in germany certain reserves that could be used to pay other lenders. As a result, the borrower has not paid any interest or principal on the obligations owed to the Detroit Retirement Systems since 2009.
The Retirement Systems were not notified that the senior loan was sold to the Carpenters affiliate until after the deal was closed, but at that time there was no disclosure that project funds had been released and used to purchase the senior loan.
The pension funds lawsuit complaint asks the court to declare the senior note amount be reduced by the $16.7 million diverted from the project and the interest collected by the carpenters fund and its affiliate since 2009 be recalculated and redistributed to other lenders accordingly. It also asks the Carpenters fund lose or share the first-lien position.
To be clear, this is a civil dispute among the lenders regarding the priority and repayment of their respective liens and loans, Wagner said. This is not a suit against the hotel and does not impair its operations. The renovated historic Book Cadillac Hotel has been credited as a catalyst for downtown development. We want the hotel to continue to successfully serve its customers.

A recent comment posted to this branch by someone who traveled through TAPO reported that the main t

As the transportation starting-point for trips to Puebla , Tlaxcala , Veracruz , Oaxaca , Chiapas and the Yucatán buy airline cheap tickets Peninsula . . . and on to Guatemala and Central America , many of the questions asked on the this branch involve travel to/from the city's busy eastern bus terminal – Terminal de Autobuses de Pasajeros de Oriente – commonly referred to as TAPO .
I went to TAPO today (2/4/04) and had a look at recent improvements and to look for a nearby hotel that had been recommended by a regular buy airline cheap tickets contributor a year or two ago (but the information for which was incomplete). Here are my comments about getting to/from TAPO, about the terminal and about lodging possibilities in the area.
*Taking an "authorized" (often referred to as "Official") taxi * from the airport is easy to do. Once you exit the Customs inspection buy airline cheap tickets area turn to your left and you´ll see a counter with a sign overhead that reads "Sitio 300" from which you'll prepay your fare to your destination. buy airline cheap tickets Fares are fixed and determined by the zone into which you´ll be traveling. Next to the counter where you'll prepay your fare is a map detailing the zones, in case you want to verify that you've been charged the accurate amount. The fare to TAPO is approximately US$10. After you purchase your ticket you walk outside to the line of authroized taxi's ("Taxi Terrestre"), let the driver stow your luggage in the trunk, enter the taxi and then hand your prepaid ticket to the driver who will hand you back your receipt portion. These taxi's are considered safe to use as opposed to any of the other city taxies that roam the airport area seeking to pick-up fares (to take one of these taxi's is considered risky).
buy airline cheap tickets There are two Metro lines which you can take directly to the San Lazaro station(s) outside which is located TAPO. Whether or not the Metro is a good option for you to consider depends buy airline cheap tickets upon the amount of luggage you're traveling with. Travelers with lots of luggage, or big luggage, have been refused entry to the Metro system at the airport during peak travel hours or, if they did pass the turnstyle . . . they found it very difficult to maneuver the packed conditions. buy airline cheap tickets Theft aboard the Metro is also a common occurrence, buy airline cheap tickets and travelers should consider this, also. So, if you do decide to take the Metro to TAPO, walk through the entire terminal until you reach the exit at the far end of Terminal A and continue to walk for about a long city block until you see the stairwell leading down to the Metro – station Terminal Aérea . It's at this point you´'ll have to make a decision buy airline cheap tickets as to which Metro line you want to take to TAPO. Personally, I prefer heading northwest on Line 5 Pantitlan Politécnico one stop to Oceanía where you change to Line B Ciudad Azteca Buenavista after which you get off the Metro at the third stop – San Lazaro ; personally, I find this the quickest route. An alternative is to travel from the airport on Line 5 - * Politécnico Pantitlan*. At Pantitlan you leave the Metro (it's the end of the line) and change to Line 1 – Pantitlan Observatorio after which you get off the Metro at the sixth stop - San Lazaro . The walking distance from the Metro to the inside of TAPO varies by Metro line you take, from 5 to 15 minutes from what I've experienced. The various Metro lines are occassionaly under repair, and, during certain hours of the day, service is restricted . . . so, before buy airline cheap tickets making buy airline cheap tickets your decision, you might want to ask the ticket seller in the Metro station about the current situation. The Mexico City Metro does not operate around-the-clock, and if you'll be attempting buy airline cheap tickets to transit between the airport and TAPO via Metro after 11:00 p.m., you may want to consider making the trip by taxi in order to avoid the risk of becoming stranded somewhere along the way. The cost of a Metro ride is MX$2.
If you´ll be traveling from TAPO on one of the ADO-affiliated busses you might want to inquire buy airline cheap tickets ahead of time as to any shuttle service ADO might be offering between the airport and TAPO. The bus company has offered this service, for a minimal cost, from time-to-time, but I don't think it's been something travelers can rely upon (and, the hours of operation were restricted).
The approximately dozen bus companies that operate out of TAPO maintain boards upon which the schedules/fares are posted for all to see and there are ticket agents to accept reservations and take your money. Most activity in TAPO takes place between the hours of 6 a.m. and Midnight.
In addition to the ticket sellers and baggage check-in counters, TAPO provides a wide variety of services to travelers, including: a dozen or more fast-food restaurants (including: buy airline cheap tickets Taco Inn, Church's Chicken, Domino's, Gorditqas Norteñas, Helen's Ice Cream and El Cafetal Express), ATM machines, a bank branch (Santander), convenience stores, a Fuji film outlet that develops buy airline cheap tickets film in 30-minutes, a barber/beauty shop, a men's clothing store, buy airline cheap tickets a dry cleaners (not same day service), a pharmacy a record/CD shop and, a checked-luggage room. However, buy airline cheap tickets these conveniences are not open and available to the public around-the-clock . . . I think the hours of operation, generally, are 8 a.m. to 9 or 10 p.m. Not all that long ago there was an internet café in the terminal, but I didn´t see it on my last visit; perhaps buy airline cheap tickets it's being remodeled and will reopen in the future.
A recent comment posted to this branch by someone who traveled buy airline cheap tickets through TAPO reported that the main terminal building closes-down for certain hours overnight, and that waiting passengers are asked to either leave the terminal or move to an adjacent, small, waiting room. I've spent the night in the terminal without experiencing the moving requirement, but that was 6 years ago. So, be prepared to be moved to another building if so requested.
If you want to store your baggage before your departure, you can do so, and you can leave luggage for more than one day. To find the luggage storage service look around the saucer-shaped terminal building (you'll be in a huge rotunda inside) for a large lighted sign along the wall that reads: "Autobuses México buy airline cheap tickets – Puebla – Estrella Roja" where you'll see a stairway/hallway leading to the Commercial Zone . Enter that wide tunnel and you'll find the luggage storage service beyond the men's clothing shop and barber/beauty shop, the name is Guarda Plus . Short-term rates vary between MX$4 – 11 pesos per hour, and daily rates vary beween buy airline cheap tickets MX$40 and $110. Small lockers are available for MX$24 per day (same price for 1 hour or for 24 hours). buy airline cheap tickets The service buy airline cheap tickets is attended 24 hours a day (according to the attendant I spoke with).
There aren't many hotels located near bus terminals in México City , and the area near TAPO probably has fewer hotels nearby than the other major terminals do. However, there is a nice hotel located about two-blocks from TAPO – Hotel Faja de Oro . Here's the address and contact information:
This hotel is very close to the corner of Avenida Eduardo Molina and Héroes de Nacozari , diagonally across the street from the Archivo buy airline cheap tickets General de la Nación , and there's a nice, medium-sized park across from the hotel, also.
To get from the airport to the hotel by Metro, take one of the two Metro options to the San Lazaro station. Walk to your right, buy airline cheap tickets outside the Metro station, to the street buy airline cheap tickets directly in front of TAPO – Eduardo Molina where you'll see many micro busses and various city busses, just about all of which will get you to the corner nearest the hotel (if confused, just say you want to go to "los Archivos" and the driver will let you off . . . it's less than a 5 minute ride at a cost of MX$2 to 2.50 (depending on the type of bus you get aboard). If it's daylight, buy airline cheap tickets and you aren't weighted-down by lots of luggage, you can easily make the two-block walk from TAPO (to your right, the second set of stop-lights) to the hotel in about 15 minutes.
The hotel is large, three floors of rooms, and there is a restaurant on the first floor. I'll advise against venturing too far from the hotel after 10 p.m or so. If you find the hotel restaurant closed, or not to your liking, there's a small sandwich stand just across the street from the front door of the hotel that's in operation from late-morning until early-evening - and there's, a block to the north, a full-service branch of the popular restaurant "Vips" which is likely to be open until about 11 p.m.
I walked a two/three block ring around TAPO looking for hotels, and found only Faja de Oro . There are several hotels to the south of the terminal, about a mile away, but my feeling is that the area too far for consideration and that it's level of security is less than where Faja de Oro is located buy airline cheap tickets . . . so I chose not to gather information about them.
For travelers who've not yet visited TAPO, I think you'll find the array of services offered, and the polished marble floors buy airline cheap tickets and saucer-like design a pleasant departure buy airline cheap tickets from many other bus terminals, both inside Mexico and abroad.
It's possible I've forgotten to include something that might be helpful, or that I've misspelled a name or word or two . . . so additions and/or corrections may be offered by others. Hopefully, if the information proves helpful in answering the many TAPO-related questions we see frequently posted the Moderator will see fit to earmark the thread for a long-life.
Are there any kind of ADO (or other long distance) buses going from the airport to like Puebla or Oaxaca ? If so where can they be found at the airport? Or is going to TAPO (or other bus stations depending on where the traveller is going to) via local transport the only way?
Wow. I really appreciate that information and the time it must have taken for you to write it. It contains two very important pieces of information which I have not previously been able to find with all my websurfing --for the curious: cost of taxi to TAPO and what we can do to stow our baggage after we get to TAPO but want to take the Metro to sightsee after we buy our tickets.
If you're heading to Pu
