I would like to know more about the accident. Did the car catch fire first which led them to crash o
In 2004, Raechel car trailer rental and Jackie Houck were killed when they were in a fiery accident car trailer rental in the 2004 Chrysler car trailer rental PT Cruiser they had rented from Enterprise . The girls' mother, Cally Houck, sued Enterprise when it was discovered that their Chrysler was the subject of a recall to repair a power steering hose leak over a potential fire issue, yet the car hadn't car trailer rental been reparied before it was rented. The five-year car trailer rental trial concluded in 2010, with Enterprise admitting negligence , at which point it was ordered by a jury to pay $15 million in damages.
That hasn't stopped Cally Houck from campaigning. There is no law that requires rental car companies to repair recalled cars before they are rented or sold; companies have their own policies about how recalls car trailer rental are handled, but as one Enterprise manager testified during the Houck trial, getting cars repaired is balanced with getting cars rented. A report in the The Detroit News offered conflicting data about how quickly cars are repaired, but the real issue is that even if, as Enterprise says, "90 percent of recalled vehicles have completed or required inspections within 30 days," those cars might still be in the rental pool during those thirty days.
Senators Barbara Boxer (D) and Charles Schumer (D) are working to change that, having introduced rental car legislation last July called the Raechel and Jacqueline Houck Safe Rental Car Act , but nothing has come of it yet. Rental car companies were asked to sign a pledge not to rent or sell vehicles that hadn't been repaired, but only Hertz signed; neither Enterprise (which owns Enterprise, National and Alamo) nor Dollar/Thrifty would sign, with Enterprise writing its own letter saying that it wouldn't do so and Dollar/Thrifty saying it would fix cars "as soon as practically possible." Boxer has made it clear that she will continue pushing for federal car trailer rental legislation.
A place where governmental regulation makes sense and would protect Americans from abuses by big corporations, but no way after the millions the car rental companies give to congressman and other legislators. Bought, sold and in their pocket!

Well of course not..........Congress is too busy investigating Major Leage Baseball steroid use and other important stuff.
I had over 11 years in the rental car industry, the majority in management and what is written above is basically true. On rent percentages car trailer rental trump recalls, if I can make revenue on a v ehicle vs being down for a repair then its rolling. Funny how to refused to sign it. The rental car industry has a bad rep already (for a wide range of reasons), why not sign this and do something to shore it up. I can say this, my personal dollars will go towards Hertz since they said they would support the legislation.
people dont even get recalls fixed on their own vehicles in a timely fashion, which according to this article puts everyone on the road at risk. The lawyers in the case above saw the dollar signs and went for it, the rental car company settled they did not admit negligence because someone lost their life and they did not want it to drag on, the accident car trailer rental caused the fire (not because of the recall).
I got $100 from Enterprise in a class action settlement because the ex-rental car I bought had it's air-bags deleted. Enterprise (and only Enterprise) was able to buy their new '08 Chevys from GM without the standard air-bags that everyone else got. They also took out all the OnStar stuff, ya' know; the mirror, buttons, and transmitter. They saved $85 on the $23,000 car trailer rental car...
I would like to know more about the accident. Did the car catch fire first which led them to crash or did they crash and then catch fire. I really doubt that a car would explosively catch fire and be fully engulfed fom just a power steering issue. I think the lawyers caught the fact that the car had a recall on it and went for the $$$.
I am not at all surprised that car rental places don't want to be concerned with recalled vehicles. Some of them don't even keep track of the road worthiness of their vehicles at all. I once rented a car that was absolutely dangerous car trailer rental to drive - after a few miles the brakes started squealing car trailer rental and grinding. And this happened as I was driving through a not so good area in Detroit - definitely car trailer rental not a place I wanted a car to break down. Back it went to the rental place for a replacement. I would hope that the rental places would do safety checks/maintenance on their cars but you can't count on it.
The article does not say that Hertz already car trailer rental repairs their recalls immediately, car trailer rental nor does it say the will before the law is passed. It just says that they have agreed to do it if the law passes. The article also does not say what steps Enterprise took after the accident and lawsuit. If you read some of the other articles on this, you will find out that they have already placed an immediate recall repair policy within their company. They did that on their own. They are already repairing recalls immediately, car trailer rental while other car rental companies refuse to even start to or comply car trailer rental with a policy that may or may not become a law. The article just focuses on Hertz and the very tragic event that just happened to happen while the individuals where in a car from another rental car company. The accident could of happened to any car rental company, including Hertz who still is not saying that they are already car trailer rental fixing these recalls, just that they will if . This article sounds to me like Hertz is doing this for publicity and someone is benefiting from printing an article of this caliber with the Hertz ring tone.
