There are fine views of Mount's Bay and St Michael's Mount before a change in St Erth. From here the 4 mile single track branch line hugs the west bank of the Hayle Estuary and takes in stunning vistas across St Ives Bay to Hayle Sands.
Opened in 1877, this branch line once carried thousands of holidaymakers from across Britain and even had its own through coach from Paddington on the Great Western Railway's Cornish Riviera Express.
Following the coastline above Carbis Bay the railway skirts Porthminster Beach before ending at the minimal, modern station of St Ives. From here it is a short walk to the beaches, harbour, quaint streets and galleries including The Tate and Barbara Hepworth Museum.
A scenic journey to the Unesco World Heritage city of Bath starts at Salisbury's busy junction station. Trains travel along the Wylye Valley, skirting around Salisbury Plain and passing a string of picturesque and peaceful villages.

Overlooked by Ben Nevis, trains depart from Fort William's 1970s-style terminus and cross the Caledonian Canal on a swing bridge before following the north shore of Loch Eil. The line, featuring cuttings and 11 tunnels, then makes a loop high over Glen Finnan on a curving viaduct.
