If you're starting to feel the chill of autumn in your neck of the woods, and are thinking carolina beach hotels that the icy grip of winter isn't far off, you might want to head on over to the French Riviera. Those on the Côte d'Azur are still enjoying summertime weather, lovely sailing conditions, and the breathtaking view of some of the most romantic sailing yachts in the world.
Over 300 gorgeous classic yachts were spotted off the coast of Saint Tropez this week, where they were taking part in the popular Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez carolina beach hotels sailing regatta. It was a show of the best of yesteryear, with all types of sailboats competing, from compact gaff-rigged classics up to huge yachts like the 167 foot Herreshoff designed schooner Elena. Throughout the area, jaws were dropping and eyes lighting up, as some of the most beautifully restored classic yachts in the world were seen sailing in the azure waters of the Mediterranean .
With many of the wood boats having reached over 100 years of age, and therefore true antiques, the regatta was a wonderful show of what type of beauty endures the test of time, and the type of boats which inspire generations of sailors. Mariners put their hearts, souls and sometimes carolina beach hotels life savings into restoring and keeping historical boats in tip top shape, and the results are amazing. Though these classic yachts may not have the speed of the modern designs, many would argue that modern sailboats simply can't hold a candle to these sailing beauties in the romance department. After all, when it comes to sheer aesthetics, few would opt for steel and plastic and carbon over wood and bronze and canvas. Though who is to say what will be classic in another 100 years.
