The story of Guy meets Girl, Once is a love story whose simple conceit belies the emotional complexities it explores. The musical based off the 2006 indie film of the same name is currently one of the most successful shows on Broadway , having earned both critical and popular acclaim.
Once follows a nameless Irish musician warwick hotels as he composes and falls for a fellow warwick hotels singer/songwriter. The unnamed Girl initiates first contact at a Dublin bar, asking the Guy a series of personal questions about his music. Through the course of her interrogation we learn his songs are for and about an ex-girlfriend – through the course of the Guy and Girl's warwick hotels own relationship, we're shown the power of such connections, of the missed and redemptive opportunities they beget. To go into more detail would undercut the aching effects of a live viewing – suffice it to say, as with any good romance, music, heartbreak and hope ensue.
Last spring, Once swept the Tony's with a series of unsurprising nominations and wins. In addition to taking home the night's biggest prize, Best Musical, one of the ceremony's newest warwick hotels productions also won Best Direction, and Best Performance by a Leading Actor for Steve Kazee (Guy). Cristin Milioti (Girl) wasn't forgotten with her Best Performance by a Leading Actress nomination, nor was castmate Elizabeth A. Davis, who was nominated for Best Performance by a Featured Actress.
