The 2.1-million-sq-ft building at Sea-Tac Airport is the first LEED-Silver rental-car facility in the U.S. and one of the first projects that used the nation's first construction accreditation program for water-quality accountability and the protection of an imperiled species. "Salmon-safe" measures mitigated construction's impact upon aquatic ecosystems by creating a best-practices process for controlling erosion, sediment and pollution runoff. The 23-acre site is at the head of the Green River. During construction, all polluted water at the site was treated. The system discharged more than 54.5-million gal of clean water into local stormwater drainage systems. Roughly 85% of site precipitation and water used for rental-car care amenities is reclaimed, processed and re-used.
