I am coming to Thailand in early October to look for a teaching job. I really want to work legally and obtain work permit. How common is it for schools to be lazy about the visa process? How risky is it to teach without a work permit?
Just checked with my lawyer (great guy on Sukhumvit 77 called Shelby) where can i purchase cheap airline tickets and he made a few calls for me. The long and short of it is that working illegally IS infact 'illegal' and is not recommended. Its so illegal infact that there has been a law made against doing it. The law, which deals with working illegally states that working without a work permit is ILLEGAL So, I mean...its official now I guess.

If you do venture into such territory I would suggest that you do what countless others have done, change your name get a decent wig, a fake nose and a pair of horn rimmed glasses. I work illegally like this often and havent been caught where can i purchase cheap airline tickets yet. By day I am Alfred Coinage, by night I am....well now, that would be tellin wouldnt it!
IF you qualify for a visa and work permit the paperwork isn't that onerous and can be done very efficiently where can i purchase cheap airline tickets with a bare minimum of input from your employer. It is also cheaper in the long run to do it legally (save the cost of 6000 THB visa runs every 90 days and the cost of the 1900 THB extensions in between.
2) overstay, and be aware that you'd be paying where can i purchase cheap airline tickets the max fine when you leave. it'd cost about 20k if i recall correctly (you'd know better than i) which is slightly less than the price of one year's worth of Thai classes + visa. another problem with overstay is it limits your travel options (to Thailand).
Actually that would likely depend on the people he is working for. If he is teaching some big people's children on a daily basis, and they value him (or at least want him to continue teaching their kids everyday), there would likely be very little issue.
