There was a heady intellectual discussion at last night's City Commission meeting between Peter Timm and Commissioner McVoy about the potential, or lack thereof, of a hotel opening, operating and being successful in downtown Lake Worth. Both were taking a defeatist attitude that since there isn't one operating now, how could there ever be one. Mention too was made about occupancy rates and the two of them really had no data to go on, but were making assumptions out of thin air.

Usually, this sort of increase in demand leads to increases in supply (number of rooms). And who is to say that some of those rooms could be in downtown Lake Worth. From the article:

Commissioner McVoy - why wouldn't downtown Lake Worth be a good place for a new hotel? The very existence of our city started with and depended upon tourism for most of its history. As always you miss the point. With the current parking situation in the downtown any hotel would need to have a floor or two for parking. That would presuppose a hotel at least five or six stories. The approval process would be long and arduous, and ultimately doomed to fail when Ms. Deli s dogs were brought into the process.
