Ken Rosenthal is reporting that right handed pitcher Jason Hammel will sign with the Chicago Cubs , pending a physical. The deal is for $6 million, plus an additional $1 million in incentives (financial terms from Jon Heyman).
The 31-year old has spent eight years in the Majors, most recently with Baltimore where he posted a 15-14 record with a 4.27 ERA over two years. He made 23 starts in 2013, a season in which he made $6.75 million. Hammel had a bit of a down year last season, some of which can be attributed to elbow problems. He was the Opening Day starter for Baltimore last year and was NOT tied to draft pick compensation.
