I have installed aftermarket cruise controls on other cars, including FWD. On them, I had to glue magnets on the driveshaft or halfshaft and mount a sensor to get the speed reading. After the installs, they worked great. You have to be sure the area you are gluing rental car myrtle beach the magnets rental car myrtle beach is clean so that they won't fly off at speed, but I didn't have any problems. You also have to mount the throttle regulator in an appropriate position so it can move the throttle without binding. The cars cruised at a steady speed and seemed to be as good as the factory installations.
You might already know, but the factory cruise control on Milanos rental car myrtle beach was more or less aftermarket anyway. On my '88 Verde and at least two others I've looked at, the units were all slightly different, and all apparently dealer (or port of entry) installed. The control switches ARE actual factory pieces, but you can probably get a set on e-bay or here. Oh, and there is an OEM cruise control motor with the controls rental car myrtle beach on e-bay now, auction ending tomorrow (5/17). No connection on my part with the item or seller, but he is located in Mass. or Conn. I think.
Nice to at least hear about aftermarket choices! I've owned 2 CC-equipped Milanos, neither one of which worked consistently or well. I'm a lazy f-, so I actually *want* CC. It's nice to at least have a vendor name!
I suggest putting a cut out switch on the clutch pedal as well (similar to the brake light switch). rental car myrtle beach Other wise if you have cruise enagaged, get a bit forgetful then start to change rental car myrtle beach down a gear if going up hill, the cruise control will try to compensate for the dropping revs as soon as you depress the clutch and hit the rev limiter instantly. Wakes you up pretty quick.
There s another factor using magnets on the prop shaft on a transaxle car. As the prop shaft is running at engine speed rather than the slower speed of conventional rental car myrtle beach transmission cars that the cruise control manufactures have designed for, there can be issues.
Here in Australia and I would imagine elsewhere cruise controls have a minimum speed below which they won t engage, which will be higher in a transaxle car (if using magnets on the prop shaft) and a maximum speed above which they won t engage either, which hopefully won t be lower than your maximum highway speed.
I have a very old Command AP50 which I was looking at putting on my GTV6 and it took me quite a bit of hunting to find the specs to work out that a single magnet would work. I haven t installed it yet though. I can t remember the figures, but I think more than one magnet would be an issue.
On another note, after replacing the speedo needle on the car, to recalibrate the gauge (not owning a GPS) I installed a bicycle computer and glued the magnet to the inside of a rear wheel hub. I made up a sheet steel bracket to hold the sensor which I attached to the wheel bearing hub with huge cable ties. Digital speedo in a GTV6! Bicycle computers are designed to work at much lower frequency rental car myrtle beach so you could put more magnets on the wheel hub for cruise control. 2? 4? I couldn t work out any other way to attach the magnet to the back of the hub than with glue. I used marine epoxy resin.

rental car myrtle beach Why not just use the pulses feeding the speedometer. Or the pulses feeding the box under the seat. I see no need to add a hack job sender when there is a nice one already there mounted to the transaxel.
I think the Speedo pulses would be too high a frequency. I think there are 6 teeth on the wheel, although it is a common option for cruise controls. Your right though rental car myrtle beach Sly - not having to muck around with dodgy brackets is a plus. Perhaps an electronic divider triggered by the Speedo pulses.

1) The early systems were sold through the dealers and featured a single stalk on the steering column (much like used later on the 164). This can be seen in the factory accessory catalogs of the era. I don't know much about the guts of this accessory system.
2) The late systems with the 2 paddles on either side of the gauge cluster. rental car myrtle beach As far as I know, this was a factory install, rental car myrtle beach as it is described in a supplement to the workshop manual. I think the majority of this system is German VDO components rental car myrtle beach and shared with some BMW models.
One thing to consider is that the late cars with factory rental car myrtle beach cruise all had the power steering fluid reservoir relocated to the front of the engine bay above the engine fan. This was necessary as the throttle actuator sits right where the earlier reservoirs were. Of course, there were some later cars without cruise control that also had the reservoir up front.
