As the city s population grows, leaders want to give people more options to get around. Not just in town, but around the state. A change that is already in effect at the Eugene Train Depot is a train running from Eugene to Portland.
ODOT recently purchased two train sets to allow convenient business travel in a single day, but it made changes to the schedule that many riders weren t too happy about. ODOT decided to get rid of the mid-morning departure from Eugene. Tuesday s meeting will give people a chance to weigh in on that, along with other issues.
Some people have been frustrated by the change and we d like the opportunity for people to have a conversation about that. The benefit of that would be people from Portland can come to Eugene for the day to do business, which is obviously a benefit for our community for people to do that, says Transportation Planning Manager Rob Inerfeld.
Mayor Kitty Piercy will also be there to discuss Oregon s passenger rail study. It s looking at ways to further improve travel between Eugene and Portland. She serves as the leadership council co-chair and will be making recommendations to the governor on preferred train configurations.
