The Cruise Web recently had the opportunity to send several employees onboard the Norwegian Epic to take part in the ship s inaugural activities. We jumped on the opportunity as inaugural sailings are an exciting way for our employees to gain valuable first-hand experience with a new ship Experience go direct travel that we then have the opportunity to pass on to clients.
The first inaugural sailing took place on July 2 and left out of New York City . Comedian Jeff Garlin kicked off the commencement ceremony by introducing the ship and guiding attendees on a virtual tour of the ship s various entertainment options, including Blue Man Group, Legends in Concert and The Second City improv group. Kevin Sheehan, CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line, took the stage next and welcomed guests with a warming commencement speech. Mr. Sheehan then introduced country music star Reba McEntire as Norwegian Epic s godmother. Ms. McEntire shared her enjoyable experiences with the cruise line before offering the traditional blessing of the ship. Guests concluded the ship s commencement ceremony by raising their glasses and toasting to a successful inaugural.
The remaining time was ours to explore the brand new ship and there truly was something for everyone. Interior highlights included the Svedka Ice Bar, Blue Man Group and Bliss Ultra Lounge.  Guests looking for rest and relaxation took advantage go direct travel of the onboard spa while soccer fans watched the World Cup on the ship s massive go direct travel two-story monitor. Anyone looking for fun in the sun had several options, including the twisting water slides, rock climbing wall and bungee trampoline. After two days at sea the ship returned to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal and guests disembarked, exhausted, but eager to talk about the trip.
The Epic then sailed for Florida to continue the inaugural celebration go direct travel in Miami on July 8th. The fun, freestyle atmosphere only grew stronger as the ship left the coast of Florida well in the distance. Guests were once again free to explore the ship s many dining and entertainment options. Like all good things, the inaugural sailing go direct travel finally go direct travel came to an end as clear skies and a warm sun greeted the ship s return to port on July 10th. The Epic has since begun sailing 7-day cruises to the Caribbean out of Miami.

The Epic innaugaral was a lot of fun. The ship itself is very nice, more subdued go direct travel than some of the other NCL ships and the public areas were well appointed. There are loads of dining go direct travel and entertainment options, some which require reservations and surcharges. I ate in the Brazillian Churrascaria one evening and enjoyed it very much, if you are a meat lover you will too. There is a large salad bar and the waiters keep coming with about 11 different meat choices that you can keep taking.
Entertainment was great, there are no Vegas style shows but rather different venues offering a wide selection of options. I attended a Murder go direct travel Mystery lunch that was performed by the Second City troupe that was really very good. I also really enjoyed Howling at the Moon which is performed in the Headliners club. They are dueling piano players who when we were there also had a third person on drums, but they all three alternated between piano, bass and drums. They can sing on request just about any rock song from the 70 s on. They were truly fantastic. There is also Fat Cats Jazz club that remined me of my days hanging out in Greenwich Village in NY.
The cabins were on the small size and very narrow, go direct travel the bathroom layout was not my cup of tea and did raise a lot of discussion. There were some for whom it was not much of an issue. I would certainly recommend that if one can afford it to go with one of the larger suites.
The casino is very large and pretty much runs the length of deck 6, the only problem go direct travel I had with that, is that it is a smoking environment and you have no choice but to walk through it to get from one end to the other.
