Rick, I hope you really do get some work done during your upcoming trip to Europe for the Summer wor

After a short but delightful break back in Seattle, I’m returning to Europe today. It’s my first time on Icelandair, connecting through Reykjavík. I find sharing my experiences and lessons learned on this blog — and reading your comments — curiously enjoyable. I’m sure I’ll be blogging furiously over the next sixty days of travel.
Here’s the plan: I’m flying to London today, sleeping in York, then hopping aboard one of those Rick Steves Best of Scotland bus tours (under a pseudonym, so the group doesn’t know I’ll be joining them). Then I’ll spend a week in Berlin and Prague before meeting my co-author, Steve Smith, in Alsace to work on our France guidebook. Steve and I then join producer Simon Griffith and the crew to film two new TV shows around the Loire (shows we’re nicknaming “Great 17th-Century Cribs”) before I meet up with Trish Feaster to be the first to use our brand-new Rick Steves chicago boutique hotels Northern European Cruise Ports book (which will be overnighted to me, hot off the press). We’ll jump ship near the end of the cruise in St. Petersburg for a Russian adventure before flying home (with a two-day layover in Iceland).
These itineraries are a tricky balance of guidebook and bus tour research; scouting for upcoming TV scripts I plan to write and produce; actual TV production; and just flat-out enjoying the fun places my travel dreams are taking me. For this trip, along with producing two new TV shows in France, chicago boutique hotels I’ll be working hard on our next new guidebook — Rick Steves’ Scotland. And I’ll be scouting upcoming TV shows in Scotland, chicago boutique hotels Berlin, Prague, Alsace, and St. Petersburg. (This work is never-ending. You’re welcome to send me comments of sympathy.)
I do feel some what sorry for you. After all these years how do you keep up with family and friends? I love to travel but need my life too. It is also amazing that it doesn t become work for you. We all wish we had jobs that seem this exciting.
Rick- I agree with the previous writer and hope that you and family life are great. You must hav a saint of a wife and kids or perhaps they travel chicago boutique hotels with you more than we know. At any rate you seem like a first class wonderful guy and I hope and pray that your personal life is great also. Lots of us have gone into adulthood with you and hav traveled with one of our good friends through you and feel that we are kindred chicago boutique hotels spirits. Take care my friend!
Now, for my experiences- Berlin used to have a Texas fast food joint called a schlotskiys sandwiches, very need checkpoint charlie. Wonderful. Just like home and all the ice you want! I haven been there since 1999 so I hope is still there. In Alsace , Strasburg the trolly line takes you to the old church which is great. There s a whole underground neighborhood of parking and shops around there with grocery stores and the like, just look around for it. Wonderful town and the actual head of the EU. Lots of history and nice things including a nice French chicago boutique hotels castle about 30 km south. I don t remember the name but in a small town south and a little west.
Amazing chicago boutique hotels that you re traveling to Iceland! I was just in our local library looking for information to plan our next trip Reykjavik, Bergen, Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen. (my daughter did this trip last year)
I m meeting chicago boutique hotels her in Edinburgh the first week in August, traveling to Isle of Skye, then visiting former neighbors in Belfast and on to Dublin. Can t wait!! I love your books and just ordered your new Europe DVD. You re so enthusiastic about what you do it can t be called work!
Rick, you are a saint of travel. chicago boutique hotels You are absolutely chicago boutique hotels amazing You take an incredibly long trip through Europe and the Middle East through the spring and then you take off again for a long, western-Europe, summer trip. Your work is highly respectable! I envy you and your team. Prayers of support are sent from Dayton, Ohio as you complete your work. I am very jealous chicago boutique hotels that you get to go to Iceland! One of my dreams throughout my entire life has been to go to Iceland. The people are fabulous and the views are breathtaking! Of the places you mentioned, I have only been to Scotland. My mother was born in Edinburgh. We traveled there in June of 2012. I highly recommend the Isle of Iona, in the north sea. Three ferries called, Caledonian McBrayne will take you to the isle. The abbey is beautiful and the pilgrimage walk is something special. chicago boutique hotels Enjoy your trip!
IcelandAir was a unique and pleasurable experience for my friend and me some 20years ago. When we landed in Reykjavik, they herded us off the plane directly into the gift shop where we could buy MukLuks and reindeer jerky. After about 45 minutes they lead us back on board to continue on our way. The flight over the country was lovely storybook quality. The language as spoken by our flight attendants seemed to our ears a language spoken backwards. All of this inspired a poem that I aptly titled Flying Over Reykjavik . Rick, if someday we meet in some gin-joint in a faraway place, I might just read my poem to you.
My question, have you ever come to Sicily? My husband, myself and our 4 children moved to Sicily after traveling all over the Western chicago boutique hotels Hemisphere. We had other options, but Sicily suited us perfectly. However, I think it is often overlooked for tourists, because of some certain stereotypes that exist about the island.
Rick, I hope you really do get some work done during your upcoming trip to Europe for the Summer work. LOL . I have followed you for many years in your books, videos, and the show on PBS. Thanks for being such a traveler with insight, ordinary concerns when traveling like real people and the love you show for travel and people. Take care, Jerry
And enjoy the Northern European ports! I ve been living in the Baltics for a year now, and it s beautiful chicago boutique hotels here at this time of year. Very long daylight in summer, you just need to make sure to leave before winter chicago boutique hotels comes. One winter here was enough for me.
Rick is the busiest guy I have ever met or heard about. I consider him the Energizer Bunny of Travel due to seemingly limitless amount of energy. He s doing what he loves so to him it may not seem like work.
On my first of three trips over the pond I flew Icelandair to Luxembourg with an early morning stop at the Reykjavík chicago boutique hotels airport. Not a tree in sight but a bar full of people who look like last nights party was still in full swing. I ve seen lots of pictures of Iceland and there are nice things to see.
I was 21 years old in 1969 on my way to Europe for the very first time, by myself. On Icelandic Airlines, as it was called, the deal was if you pay only $15.00 extra (yes only $15) you could spend one night in a Reykjavik hotel with a city bus tour included. I was slightly scared and homesick because I was so far from home, but then in the hotel, Johnny Carson s Tonight Show came on the tv and I realized the world really chicago boutique hotels wasn t very big after all.
I ve been a huge fan for years and have followed your travel advice many times. My family chicago boutique hotels and I are traveling this Christmas in Europe but are having a hard time figuring out how to make the best of this season. chicago boutique hotels I own your Christmas special and adore it, but I was wondering what further suggestions you may have.
I enjoyed seeing you as a fellow guest on The Original Ghost Walk of York. I didn t want to bother you during the walk, but I wanted to thank you for the your guides chicago boutique hotels and travel chicago boutique hotels advice. It got me and my family here, even my 7 year old has benefited from your travel tips.
just like another heroes from a long, long time as Amadis de Gaula, Palmerin de Inglaterra, El Quijote de la Mancha; Rick Steves, The Man of The World?? bring us a lot of adventures that we read, enjoy, and make us travel with him, trying ,for some of us, to convert the impossible in a possible dream.
Really enjoyed staying in Strasbourg in Alsace I day tripped to Colmar instead of the other way round. If the weather isn t so good there s lots more to do in Strasbourg. Also, I stopped in Nancy on the way to Paris and HIGHLY recommend it. I visited because it was the home of French Art Nouveau, but it also has a stunning 18th century square. (Almost chicago boutique hotels hesitate to recommend it, since it s not on the tourist trail.)
My husband and I will be in Alsace Sept. 19 to 23. Colmar will be our home base! We re getting lots of hints from your books, and think this will be a highlight of our European vacation. Have fun, can t wait to read and see what you produce from Alsace.
My first European trip was 36 years ago flew Icelandic Airlines from Chicago to Luxembourg. I was 20 years old and flew by myself to visit a girl from Luxembourg who was a foreign exchange student at my high school. We traveled around France chicago boutique hotels in her little yellow Citrion convertible. Her boyfriend joined us, but he couldn t speak English and I couldn t speak his language, but he did know English music. I remember he would say to me come on baby light my fire don t think he knew what he was saying.
Will be in Strasbourg Sept 16-19. Just sorry we don t have time to see the WWI WWII sites in that area including an American Cemetery and the German Concentration Camp out of Obernai. We have scheduled a tour through La Rose Vins which includes an Alsatian lunch. We added Colmar to that tour. On our own we are going to the Pottery Towns and Baden-Baden. We think Alsace area will be a highlight of our trip. We bought chicago boutique hotels your France Book and 6-day French Rail Pass through your company. All Seat Reservations chicago boutique hotels were available for the lowest price (11.00 each) by booking on-line 90 days in advance. In fact we could book at 6PM EDT the day before. Looking forward to the Alsace part of your trip.
