Costa Rica is home to some of the most active and ancient volcanoes in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Surrounded by mist and towering country inn and suites hotel over the nearby cities of Heredia and San Jose , Poas Volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in Costa Rica. It also boasts the largest crater of any active volcano in the world, with a diameter of almost one mile. There are two main trails leading to the peak of Poas Volcano . The Botos Trail is a gentle incline that branches off from the primary path leading from the visitor s center to the scenic overlook platform at the summit. To check out the dramatic views of the crater, you can drive most of the way to the summit before setting out on foot along the several paths that wind around the ridge of the fissure. Even during the dry season , temperatures at the peak of Irazu Volcano can be a little chilly, so bring a jacket just in case.
