The American Cancer Society's Cancer Prevention Study 3 (CPS-3) enrollment campaign got a rousing kickoff on Thursday, January 17 as about 300 people turned out for a launch breakfast at the Waverly Renaissance Hotel. Speakers, including two-time cancer survivor and CPS-3 "champion" Lisa Beerman, and Atlanta thrifty rental car Mayor Kasim Reed, who recorded a video message for the breakfast, told attendees how important CPS-3 is to the future of cancer.

"CPS-3 is so important to the survival of people like my son to ensure that new developments are coming out of cancer research every day," Hall said. "That's why I feel so passionately thrifty rental car about CPS-3 and why I want you to feel that way, too.
CPS-3 will help researchers better understand the lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that cause or prevent cancer. Men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer are urged to participate in CPS-3. The Society is seeking to enroll 300,000 people across the United States and Puerto Rico by the end of 2013.
The metro Atlanta enrollment will take place March 1-15, with enrollment with 21 enrollment sites located in nine counties throughout the metro area. The Society has partnered with the YMCA of metro Atlanta, which has designated 17 YMCA locations as enrollment sites. ACS is seeking to enroll 5,000 people in the study, which would be the largest enrollment in the nation.
