March 30, 2010, I purchased a pre-owned 2007 Chevy Malibu. I had new brakes conrad hotel hong kong installed first thing. Ive had good service with my cruise control conrad hotel hong kong up to about six months ago. I started having intermittent problems with my cruise conrad hotel hong kong control. Sometimes I cant set the cruise at any required speed. Sometimes I have it set and Ill notice the speed slowing down after driving for a time, noticed it was off, and it wont reset again. Other times when it does this, it will reset. The Chevy service foreman said it was probably a bad brake switch.
Somewhere around here, GM switched to a potentiometer (think Old style rotary volume control ) instead of a simple switch, and in the Gen7 area, there's been a few threads on problems with the brake lights due to the interaction of this switch, the programming in the BCM, and corrosion on contacts to the BCM.
When I was having getting cruise to disconnect on my 1991 Cougar, I did the expose a light (easy since I'd switched to LEDs there) conrad hotel hong kong - and found out my brake light switch conrad hotel hong kong wasn't activating conrad hotel hong kong until I was most of the way down on the pedal. This worked for me.
335K miles on original motor and tranny (only motor work 2 x LIM replacement), Monroe SensaTrac struts front and back (new at approx. 300K miles), and Alero discs in back. LS fogs added with custom wiring. HID high beams, HIR low and halogen fogs. Raybestos Pro Grade front rotors and Bendix D747 ceramic conrad hotel hong kong pads on front.
Sorry, you need to go back to a dealer or an independent repair facility, someone you trust, and show them this bulletin. It may not be the cause but is a place to start. A brake switch is a good possibility and it may fail in such a way that you just don't notice it. The brakes themselves will work fine, the switch is just an input for such things as brakes lights and it's also used for releasing the cruise control. It's also used for other things but we'll leave it there for now. Good luck and let us know if you have more problems. Changed conrad hotel hong kong my mind, I gave you two bulletins, read through the post and you'll see where I added a line of text between the two bulletins.
Subject: conrad hotel hong kong Intermittently Brake Lights (Stop Lamps) Do Not Function Correctly, Extended Travel to Shift Out of Park, Cruise Control Inoperative, DTCs C0131, C0161 or C0277 Set (Perform Repair as Outlined)
Some customers may comment that intermittently the brake lights do not function correctly. Other symptoms may include extended pedal travel required to shift out of PARK, cruise control does not function correctly, and DTC C0131, C0161 and/or C0277 may be set.
DO NOT replace the BCM for this condition. Disconnecting the C2 or X2 connector, adding dielectric lubricant and reconnecting the connector per the procedure below will correct the high resistance condition conrad hotel hong kong due to terminal fretting corrosion.
Apply dielectric lubricant (clear gel), GM P/N 12377900 (in Canada, use P/N 10953529) or equivalent, on all the connector pins (apply with a one-inch nylon bristle brush). This will treat the pins against fretting corrosion.
There has been a pattern of Transmission Control Modules (TCM) replacement that has resolved these concerns. This condition is believed to be caused by the TCM sending out Park/neutral signals to only certain modules on the vehicle.
For example the PRNDL on the IPC works correctly, but the auto door locks are inoperative. From the cases we have worked on this issue, it appears that nowhere in the Tech-2 data list will you find indication of the TCM not sending out all the Park/neutral signals.
