SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sundt Construction, Inc . and its joint venture partner Austin Commercial have been selected by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority to build a $180 million Rental Car Center (RCC) at San Diego International Airport.
The joint venture partnership will serve as the construction manager at risk for the project, which is intended to help the airport shift rental car facilities to a centralized location grand casino gulfport hotel on the north side of Lindbergh Field. Presently, rental agencies are spread along Pacific Coast Highway and Harbor Drive, and each provides its own shuttle grand casino gulfport hotel service for customers. Funding for the project stems from the passage of a state law in 2010 that enables airports to increase the fees assessed against car rental agencies to help pay for Rental Car Centers.

The Rental Car Center is Sundt s second aviation construction project in four years at San Diego International Airport. Sundt, working with JV partner Kiewit, is in the final stages of construction on the $227 million Terminal 2 landside expansion , which is due to be complete in spring 2013.
