I have flown SW for years. Back when my job in corporate America took me all over the country, I would fly SW at least three round trips a month .sometimes more. And I fly Tampa-Jacksonville at least 10 times a year because of my elderly mother.
I ve gotten business class upgrades on Airtran more often than not even when I don t, I like knowing where I ll sit. I admit my experience with SW is limited, but in my experience, the cattle call boarding is not a myth. I will give them a chance but will likely go back to Delta.
I ll be honest I probably will not fly SWA, well mainly due to the fact I moved from ATL to Asia this year and future heavy international travel even when I m back home to ATL. I do wish them all the success in ATL to smack some customer-service senses into DL (I know I know I m asking too much).
As a resident of both Tampa and Atlanta I m ready to welcome Southwest. Southwest is major player at Tampa. It s true that Southwest uses the cattle-call boarding but this can be obviated if the case in other cities cheap alaska travel holds by joining up and paying extra for a pre-boarding pass (I m sure one still will save over the fare Delta, United, and American would charge). The big emphasis for me is circumventing the fees checked luggage, change fees, etc.. I always thought an airline charging me to check my luggage is like a restaurant charging me for plates and utensils. David is right on the money. I have been A-List for 3 years and hate flying any other carrier. I used to be Medallion on DL when I lived in Atlanta, but since I moved west, I am a Southwest fan. The cattle call myth is kept alive by those who don t fly SWA. You get a letter and a number, line up and get on the plane. No 7 Zones, no now boarding our elite platinum tiffany Visa card holders or other nonsense. Fly often and you always get an A borading pass and a window or aisle is yours for the taking. They have three simple fare levels, and the middle one offers unlimited flexibility if you need to change flights at NO EXTRA COST. Buy the cheapest and you only pay the fare difference. Plus the FF program rules, want a seat? Got the points? Its yours. No blackouts or games. And when you buy Business Select or make A-List Preferred, the drinks are on them, and they send plenty of drink coupons your way. So lets see, early boarding, no bag fees, the best company culture I have ever experienced on an airline, and free drinks. Who needs business class?

No charge for luggage is huge, as is flexibility in changing flights. The employees are friendly and appear to like the jobs, a refreshing change cheap alaska travel from other airlines. I have flown Southwest for over 25 years out west. They are the friendliest, most efficient, and fare airline competitor in the business. You will get over the seat selection phobia as I never have a problem getting an aisle seat. No business class- no first class. But they know how to run an airline.
Mooooo! While I am a big fan of low fares, I am not ready for the cattle call that is the boarding cheap alaska travel process and the fight for seats once on the plane. I ve flown Southwest before (1 round-trip) and will not be flying them again. I ve been in love with AirTran I switched to them after Delta s service levels plummeted and will mourn as they are swallowed up into the LUV family.
I have been a Ticket reader since the days of $35.00 per year subscriptions. I abandoned Delta when they started thinking I wasn t as important as the guy who flies to China twice a year. They also failed to live up to the FF conversions promised. So, AirTran is my airline of choice.
