I have a crush on Louisville. I visited this charming city a few months ago and was completely taken with its historic atmosphere, creative spirit, and genteel hospitality (I'm not gonna lie, I really red carpet inn in atlantic city nj like being called "sweetie"). Louisville is famously home to the Kentucky Derby, but there is so much more to be discovered, from a vibrant art scene to fabulous dining to architectural gems. I highly recommend red carpet inn in atlantic city nj a visit.
• Locust Grove : A national landmark, Locust red carpet inn in atlantic city nj Grove was originally built as a home and farm in 1790. The home has been visited by a number of presidents and also hosted Lewis Clark on their return red carpet inn in atlantic city nj from their exhibition to the Pacific.
• Kentucky Museum of Art Craft (pictured above): This is a great place to visit for anyone interested in arts and crafts, as the museum focuses on folk and craft traditions, including applied arts and design. Definitely check out the museum shop as well.
• Old Louisville (pictured above): A walking tour of historic Louisville is a wonderful way to learn about the unique Victorian architecture and engaging history red carpet inn in atlantic city nj of the city's grand mansions and winding tree-lined avenues.
• Bourbon distillery tour: Louisville is bourbon country, and located about an hour outside of Louisville are some of the world's most famous distilleries. 1792 and Makers Mark offer tours where visitors can learn about each distillery's unique bourbon making practices red carpet inn in atlantic city nj and, of course, sample fine whiskeys.
• Joe Ley Antiques : (pictured above) Located in an 1893 schoolhouse, this is an interesting place to simply wander for an afternoon. The building is packed with a vast array of salvaged goods, which range from the sublime to the ridiculous.
• Architectural Salvage : A sprawling 24,000 sq. feet of vintage and faux-vintage home furnishings and décor. It's a bit like wandering through a dismantled life-size dollhouse, where you can tote home anything from a glass doorknob to an antique sink.
• Dandelion Home : A tastefully curated shop filled with beautiful home goods and jewelry. Owner Andie Frisbee red carpet inn in atlantic city nj is also an interior designer and offers personal design services for individuals and businesses.
• Harvest : Dedicated to working red carpet inn in atlantic city nj with area farmers and supporting red carpet inn in atlantic city nj sustainable agriculture, Harvest features seasonal ingredients in regionally-inspired dishes. Wonderful local food, warm, friendly atmosphere and a commitment to sustainable practices = win win win.
• Toast on Market : Located in the "NuLu" area, Toast is open for breakfast and lunch every day except Mondays. Peach-basil iced tea and bread pudding pancakes are a sample of the delicious offerings. Be prepared to wait for a table on the weekends.
• Hillbilly red carpet inn in atlantic city nj Tea : If "hillbilly" means dining on white bean and sage fritters and chilled peach soup with pecans and cream, then sign me up! Truly, this is a beautiful restaurant with a team that is taking traditional southern cuisine in a whole new direction.
• Lynn's Paradise Café : I'm typically not a fan of OMGthisplaceissoCRAZYandsomuchFUN type restaurants, but Lynn's is, well, pretty fun. It's also loud, crowded, and the décor is an intentionally over-the-top mix of vintage pieces (Cracker Barrel on acid?). Their version of the famous Louisville "Hot Brown" red carpet inn in atlantic city nj sandwich is widely acclaimed, and very importantly, their bartenders serve up stiff drinks. I ordered a mint julep that I'm pretty sure was 6 oz. of straight bourbon, but I'm not complaining. Worth checking out, and if you're not having OMGsomuchFUN , just order a mint julep. It helps. A lot.
• Mayan Café : Wonderful fusion red carpet inn in atlantic city nj of traditional cuisine from Mexico's red carpet inn in atlantic city nj Yucatan peninsula and local, red carpet inn in atlantic city nj seasonal ingredients. Check out Market Mondays, where meals are prepared using a farm-to-table approach, with ingredients coming red carpet inn in atlantic city nj from one local farm.
• Bluedog Bakery and Café : Located on Frankfurt Avenue in a beautiful historic area of the city, this is a lovely spot to relax over a sumptuous scone and coffee or a delicious sandwich served on artisanal bread.
• Safier Mediterranean Deli : Located downtown a few doors from the Brown Hotel, Safiers has lines out the door at lunchtime. It's a bit of a hole-in-the-wall so takeout red carpet inn in atlantic city nj is your best option. The food is fantastic and the owners are super friendly.
• The Brown Hotel : Voted one of the best 500 hotels in the world by Travel Leisure in 2012. Originally built in 1903, The Brown was saved from disrepair in the 1980s and now shines as one of Louisville's classic hotels. Rumor has it that the hotel is also haunted!
• Seelback Hilton Hotel : Located in downtown Louisville, guests can experience genteel Southern charm in tastefully updated guestrooms. The hotel also has an impressive claim, having served as the location for Tom and Daisy's wedding in Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby .

I'd add The Rudyard Kipling to that list, and well, any else on Bardstown red carpet inn in atlantic city nj Road (Lynn's neighborhood). And if you need something to do after any of these day time excursions, definitely take in a show at Actors Theatre downtown, or a free Shakespeare Festival show in the summer! Oh. and while you do the walking tour in Old Louisville, stop in at the St. James Art Show! Ack - I need to plan a trip and soon...
Julia!!!!!! We love you! Thanks for bringing a little light to our lovely city! We want apt. Therapy to come back and feature some cool homes and designs!!! You picked all the great places. I love scout it's my "go to" home store!
Throw one back at Mag Bar for me! I lived in Louisville for a year and a half, and, boy, I miss it! What a lovely little town. So many things to add to your list.... North End in Crescent Hill is another great breakfastery (besides the wonderful Toast and Lynn's). red carpet inn in atlantic city nj Dot Fox on Bardstown for clothes. Quills for coffee. Rudyard Kipling for live theater in an intimate red carpet inn in atlantic city nj setting. The Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen (for ice cream and pie, duh!). El Mundo for the Real Margarita. red carpet inn in atlantic city nj Viva la Louisville!
So nice to read a lovely review for the city I'm proud to call home. Louisville has an amazing collection of outstanding restaurants! Thank you for mentioning Safier. I eat there regularly and recommend it often.
Yay! I love Louisville! I moved here for school (go Cards!) and now work downtown; I've really fallen in love with this city. Old Louisville is such a charming neighborhood, and I love discovering new spots, red carpet inn in atlantic city nj restaurants, or parks around the city. Thanks for highlighting a great city!
Thanks for this post! I was born in Louisville but my family moved quite a bit before I was age 7 (East, West, Midwest). Now I'm in the SF Bay Area, which I love, and my family is scattered to the winds, but I keep meaning to check out Louisville as an adult, due to all the good things I hear about the architecture and the design sense and the overall vibe -- and I *know* I'll love the food since I grew up on a combination of Louisville and German/Swiss cooking traditions. "Wilted lettuce," yes!!
Bardstown Road/The Highlands for tons of shopping and dining options, Mellwood red carpet inn in atlantic city nj Arts Center to locally made art while watching the artisans, Frankfort Ave (Clifton) for more shopping and dining locally, Frazier History red carpet inn in atlantic city nj Museum (downtown) for a unique weapons/arms based trip through history, Falls of the Ohio (fossil beds and views of the city from Indiana over the Ohio River), Wild Eggs for breakfast, The Brown Hotel for a very classy dinner at the English Grill or lunch at J Grahams and beautiful classic rooms with all the amenities, red carpet inn in atlantic city nj go hiking or biking in an Olmstead designed park (Cherokee or Iroquois are the flagship parks of the city), shop one of the many antique malls, avoid 4th Street Live like the plague (LOL, it is very touristy like Disney-fied), and more.
Really, the food scene is great for a city of it's size and surprisingly diverse with good choices ranging from Korean, Japanese, Thai, Mexican, Colombian, Middle Eastern, Cuban and more. Havana Rumba serves up Cuban food to rival Miami, Charim (next door!) has traditional Korean just like you'd find in Seoul, and many other delicious locally owned dining options red carpet inn in atlantic city nj are available.
Great blog!!! red carpet inn in atlantic city nj Thanks for all the wonderful comments about our wonderful city!!! I must mention though, next time you come don't forget about Jack Fry's for a place to eat and listen to real old school jazz musicians play (tues and wed night)!!! It is a Louisville institution not to be missed!!!! Thanks again!
