First: Take the suv to autozone or some similar auto place and they can tell you what the check engi

June was not a very good month for car expenses. It was the month in which I finally let my expensive, aging luxury car go. That was difficult to do. As much as one can love an inanimate object, I loved that car. However, since its purchase, it has cost me thousands of dollars in maintenance costs, registration and insurance payments, over and above what I paid for it.
The one big bright spot was that our car insurance age to rent a car dropped like a rock. We are now paying just $20 a month for car insurance! At our peak of spending, we were maintaining age to rent a car 5 cars and spending age to rent a car hundreds of dollars a month on car insurance.... how stupid of us.
In July, expenses dropped. I only had one occasion for which I needed age to rent a car a rental car. The general car expenses for July include payment of the full 6 month premium for car insurance for our 2 old remaining cars. $121.90!
However, the SUV has now (naturally) developed an engine problem and the 'check engine' light is on. Yesterday, age to rent a car while out and about, the darn thing didn't want to start which makes me realize that it has to go into the repair shop. I would just as soon send it to the chop shop but, unfortunately, we need it.
I have effectively been rendered house bound since I scrapped my car, not willing to pump hundreds of dollars into an aging SUV just to drive aimlessly around town ~ that thing drinks down $20 worth of gas without a problem. As I no longer have a cheaper car to drive, I am staying home much more. The spouse and I plan on buying a new vehicle when he retires in 3 years time and I need to try and stick to that plan .... but it's difficult. Taking the bus in this heat is really not an option unless an emergency arises. age to rent a car The bus stops are not shaded and the sun beats down from around 9am onwards ... the heat is yet another factor to deal with when riding public transit. If the bus is late, well, one gets to stand out in the full heat of the Mojave desert sun, waiting .....
Whether or not we buy a new car right now hinges solely on our vehicle expenses as evidenced monthly by the above chart. If it makes sense to buy a new car now, we might as well go ahead and do it, especially as we have kids away at school who need picked age to rent a car up, dropped off and visited. Not to mention everything else in between.
I do love the Hyundai brand, and I love their cars. They ll be something I ll be looking at in about 2-3 years when I go car shopping (for used, though). However did you manage $20/mo for insurance?!
First: Take the suv to autozone or some similar auto place and they can tell you what the check engine code message is and give you some idea of the possible problems. This can help to make sure your not getting ripped off and sometimes you might be able to take of the problem yourself. Knowledge is power. Two: The car you are looking at the hyundai is a two door. Not good for hauling more than two people. Pretty sporty looking and some of the other hyundai, kia or suzuki models might be priced less and provide more reasonable transportation. Also used is better something 2 years old etc...
I finally bought a new car 2 years ago. I sold my 1993 Subaru to a friend for her son. It was still running good and had 200,000 miles on it. I just felt the car was on borrowed time so I got a new Subaru, an Impreza Sport. I hated doing it, but I was proud of myself for driving that car for 17 years. I wouldn t take buses here, scary, creepy people ride the buses here; I would feel like I would have to disinfect myself when I got home. I wish the USA was more like England--it age to rent a car does seem that over there lots of normal people take public transportation. I hate having to rely on cars. We spend so much on car ownership and health care here.
The Accent has more space and is cheaper to buy. Invest the saved money over the time that you keep the car (say 10 years) and over that time it will grow into a nice little pot probably enough to pay for one third of the next new car. A wide brimmed hat helps very well against the Mojave dessert sun. Tried it myself last year August, as a tourist on my way from LA to Tuba city. A hat and a big bottle of water and I was very happy in the heat. I was the only one I have seen with a hat, everybody else relied on baseball caps. Which don t work.
@Tanner ~ The Hyundai Veloster age to rent a car is a really cute car but, as someone age to rent a car pointed out, it is only a 2-seater and that is not really practical for us just yet. My insurance is low because we are insuring old cars, liability only, and we have a clean driving record, no accidents. Also, several discounts. Our 6 month premium is around $122 with Geico. Also, other family members insure with Geico which means that we can all drive each other s car and still be covered. Convenient. @Anon1 ~ We discovered the cause of the check engine light and it is a $500 fix .... leaking gasoline vapors in the engine. Buying a 2 year old car with low mileage would be the best case scenario :) @Marcy ~ You were so lucky to have driven that car for 17 years! I wish mine had lasted as long. I m really bummed about the fact that my car looked so good on the outside but, inside, the engine was a piece of crap that Nissan KNEW to be defective. That burns me! @Anon2 ~ I am driving different economy cars during my time driving rentals. So far, I ve rented a Ford Focus (nice), a Toyota Corolla (nice) and a Chevy Cruze (best). I really like the Cruze ... zippy and good on gas. And yes, in the Mojave, it s best to stay out of the midday sun altogether but, when I go out, I am never without water or a visor.
On a quest to bounce back from job and financial loss. One of my biggest dreams in life is to own my home free and clear of any and all bank loans. To no longer be a slave to the lender would be GREAT!
