This is the second time the auto giant has recalled vehicles over this problem. In January 2005, over 6 million cars, trucks, SUVs and vans were recalled for the same cruise control switch. Over the past decade Ford has recalled 10 million vehicles because of the concern over faulty switches.
The company says it's received a few reports of fires. It denies the switches pose a hazard and says the recall is unwarranted. However, the National Highway Traffice Safety Administration (NHTSA days inn hotels ) has documented 600 fires in Ford vehicles since 1992.
