AUSTIN, Texas, Aug 23, 2012 (AFP) Lance Armstrong will be stripped of his seven Tour de France titles, builders virtual tour lexington ky homes the US Anti-Doping Agency said Thursday after the cycling icon announced he would no longer fight the drug charges that have stained his legacy.
builders virtual tour lexington ky homes Armstrong, while maintaining his innocence, announced builders virtual tour lexington ky homes his decision after a US federal court dismissed his lawsuit against USADA on Monday, paving the way for the agency to continue its case against him.
Today I turn the page, Armstrong said in a statement on his website. I will no longer builders virtual tour lexington ky homes address the issue, regardless of the circumstances. I will commit myself to the work I began before ever winning a single Tour de France title: serving people and families affected by cancer, especially those in underserved communities.
It is a sad day for all of us who love sport and our athletic heroes, Tygart said. This is a heartbreaking example of how the win-at-all-costs culture of sport, if left unchecked, will overtake fair, safe and honest competition, but for clean athletes, builders virtual tour lexington ky homes it is a reassuring reminder that there is hope for future generations to compete on a level playing field without the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
The idea that athletes builders virtual tour lexington ky homes can be convicted today without positive A and B samples, under the same rules and procedures that apply to athletes with positive builders virtual tour lexington ky homes tests, perverts the system and creates a process where any begrudged ex-teammate can open a USADA case out of spite or for personal gain or a cheating cyclist can cut a sweetheart deal for themselves.
builders virtual tour lexington ky homes In August, French sports newspaper L'Equipe reports tests on six urine samples allegedly taken from Armstrong during the 1999 Tour and frozen were positive for blood-boosting erythropoietin (EPO). Armstrong maintains he has never taken performance-enhancing drugs.
2006: Armstrong is cleared of doping allegations that stemmed from a 1999 drug test. Report states re-testing didn't meet scientific standards. In July, Floyd Landis wins the Tour but is stripped of his title after failing a drug test.
2009: On March 23, Armstrong crashes in the first stage of the Vuelta a Castilla y Le n in Spain and breaks his collarbone. He resumes training four days after surgery. In April, the AFLD, France's anti-doping builders virtual tour lexington ky homes agency, accuses Armstrong of failing to cooperate fully with a drug tester. He denies builders virtual tour lexington ky homes the accusation. Armstrong finishes third in the Tour de France.
2010: In May, Landis admits he was using performance-enhancing drugs when he rode on the US Postal builders virtual tour lexington ky homes Service team and accused team members, including Armstrong, of also using performance-enhancing drugs. builders virtual tour lexington ky homes Armstrong denies the allegations.
In September, Betsy Andreu, builders virtual tour lexington ky homes wife of former Armstrong teammate Frankie builders virtual tour lexington ky homes Andreu, said she spoke to a federal agent investigating Armstrong and other cyclists. Betsy Andreu has claimed that Armstrong admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs in a hospital room in 1996 while battling cancer. Armstrong denies the allegation.
2011: In January, a Sports Illustrated magazine article quotes Armstrong's 1995 teammate Stephen Swart as saying Armstrong was the instigator for some team members to use EPO. Armstrong's lawyer says the allegation is false.
On August 23, Armstrong says he won't take his case to arbitration. USADA chief Travis Tygart says Armstrong will be stripped of all of his results dating back to August 1, 1998 and banned from cycling for life.
Factfile on Lance Armstrong, who said Thursday he would not seek arbitration in the US Anti-Doping Agency case against him, prompting builders virtual tour lexington ky homes USADA to say it would strip him of his seven Tour de France titles and ban him for life from cycling:
The whole thing sucks for U.S. cycling. 4 years after being retired a guy that made cycling what it is in the US gets hounded about doping when it completely builders virtual tour lexington ky homes no longer matters what so ever. He's gone his day is over, let it go, yet it seems the same people, (only those that seem to have something to gain) the ones that can make money with a book or have an axe to grind keep up with this crap. Dopeing was a huge part of the peleton through LA's time on the bike. Are we going to destroy all the great names and great guys in the sport along with Lance. Like the Hinncappies and others just to grind on a one time great. I hope U.S. cycling make it through this.
People that can only feel better by putting others down or diminishing their accomplishments will live a lonely life. Surviving cancer alone deserves recognition and applause, but to come back and race, not to mention winning is amazing. I don't care what the USADA has to say.
Do ya really think that Armstrong would walk away from 7 tour titles if he didn't know that the gig was up? He's always talking about what a fighter he is. He has millions of dollars at his disposal. There are millions of gullible cycling fans who would make cash donations to his war chest. Give me a break - he knows that the mound of evidence is just getting builders virtual tour lexington ky homes bigger and bigger. Hincapie was going to testify under oath. Armstrong obviously knows that it's time to cut and run and hope that he'll still make millions of dollars a year in personal income from his cancer rides.
Lance made the right choice. Life is too short and the weasels, and haters would have never relented. Why do some love to see a fallen hero? What drives such anger, builders virtual tour lexington ky homes hatred? Like it or not, he will always be a 7 time Tour De France Champion who rose above crazy odds and inspired millions. He will continue to do so because he is not a one dimensional human being . More importantly, he created one of the greatest foundations of all time. The nay sayers will continue with their vitriol but when one survives such incredible odds they understand the value of life and its' priorities. His supporters would have liked nothing better than for him to continue the fight but he is the one living it and his family has been greatly impacted. His supporters and fans will never doubt him. His legacy by his own words is his foundation. Now will all of you haters leave it alone and try to figure out why you are driven by such negativity?
What will Tygart do with himself? Is it envy, insecurity, that drives someone builders virtual tour lexington ky homes like him to such a job? You insult us with the hypocrisy of your statement. builders virtual tour lexington ky homes I can only imagine what disappointment he must feel now that the fight has ended by Lance on his own terms.
Personally, I think Lance is still 'racing". Why? Because builders virtual tour lexington ky homes he may be of the opinion that only the UCi and TdF organization can exact whatever punishment builders virtual tour lexington ky homes is deemed necessary or if warranted at all. Is the UCI compelled to act on the USADA's conclusions? I think not. And, if only a cynical point of view, the UCI has much to lose in terms of prestige and credibility, if it sides with the USADA. A point not lost on Lance, I'm sure, and again, playing builders virtual tour lexington ky homes the devil's advocate and being bit more cynical, the two may have formed an alliance (not at all uncommon in cycling) realizing that each one's survival and exoneration depends on the other's. I do agree with a comment made previously, that alluded to the notion that taking any substance and not knowing the short/mid/long term results as a cancer survivor doesn’t make sense. In the long run, I believe that Armstrong has played it well and ultimately, the UCI's position will be the one that counts. Do I think Lance is clean? Yes. I do. Do I think he could have doped? Yes, anything is possible, but I don't believe it. I don't believe he did. As he told me after he won the Tour de Luxembourg in 98 and was walking with Frankie Andreu to the podium builders virtual tour lexington ky homes there in Dierkirch, as they were calling him repeatedly while he spent about 8 minutes talking to my son and me, I asked him if he would participate in the Tour that year. He just shrugged and said that he'd be back in Austin watching it on TV because he was just plain tired. And I think that's what's happening again; he's just plain tired, but saving himself for what's next to come.
I heard the soundbite of Bicycling's editor twice saying to Charlie builders virtual tour lexington ky homes Rose that Armstrong IS guilty. I couldn't believe it. No physical evidence has been presented but the editor already knows what Armstrong did.
How about I cancel my subscription because Bicycling has an editor and possibly editorial staff who pass judgement on national TV with virtually nothing to base it on except hearsay? Talk about bias....
The International Cycling Union (UCI) have issued a cautious builders virtual tour lexington ky homes response to the US Anti-Doping Agency's intention to strip Lance Armstrong of his seven Tour de France titles and hand the American a lifetime ban.
The UCI has contended that it should have jurisdiction over Armstrong's case as it was responsible builders virtual tour lexington ky homes for carrying out doping tests while he competed. The American has been at pains to point out he has never failed a test.
"The UCI recognises that Usada is reported as saying that it will strip Mr Armstrong of all results from 1998 onwards in addition to imposing a lifetime ban from participating in any sport which recognises the World Anti-Doping Code.
"Article 8.3 of the WADC states that where no hearing occurs the Anti-Doping Organisation with results management responsibility shall submit to the parties concerned (Mr Armstrong, builders virtual tour lexington ky homes Wada and UCI) a reasoned decision explaining the action taken.
But the Usada chief executive, Travis Tygart, is confident that is not the case. He told velonation.com: "They [Armstrong and his legal team] have already taken legal action and the federal judge told them we do have authority and our process is the process where those complaints can be made.
Of Armstrong's Tour wins, only his victories in 2004 and 2005 fell within the eight-year window builders virtual tour lexington ky homes when proceedings were started against him, although Usada maintains evidence from prior to that period can still be utilised.
