We will be traveling to New Orleans short term accommodation in dublin ireland immediately after school is out in the Northeast for a week's visit. No one in the group of six has ever been to New Orleans, but we travel to a new destination every year as a group. It will be my wife and daughters (ages 3 and 7), in addition to my parents. We have been researching the destination and attractions. I would like any input on any moderately priced hotel anyone would recommend. We have looked into the Avenue short term accommodation in dublin ireland Plaza Resorts, the Country Inn and Suites, the Springhilll Suites, the Best Western Plus French Quarter Landmark, the Staybridge Suites, and finally, the Westin Canal Place. I was really impressed with the amenities of the Westin until I read the comments on Trip Advisor. So I think even though that sounds like a nice place, short term accommodation in dublin ireland I am a little gun shy about the reviews. The Avenue Plaza and Country Inn and Suites caught my eye otherwise.
Any input on the hotel to choose or any inside tips on anything in particular in addition to the hotel? We would like to do some sights in the mornings and relax by the pool in the afternoon most days. Thanks in advance for your input.
Not to beat a dead horse - but IN NO you MUST be very careful which areas and even strets you visit. There are some very high crime areas very close to major tourist attractions. And even some streets in the French Quarter are very unpleasant in the evening (much public drunkenness, even arguments/fights) and you want to be careful where you go with children.
We are very familar with the area (born and raised here) and stay in FQ hotels for a variety short term accommodation in dublin ireland of events throughout the year. The Country Inn and Suites, the Springhilll Suites is kind of out of the way also. The Best Western Plus French Quarter Landmark is on Rampart, a street that borders the FQ and one I would personally avoid.
The Westin if one of my favorites because short term accommodation in dublin ireland it is an ideal location in many ways. The hotel is literally on the Canal St. Street street car line and very close to the Riverfront street car. There are riverview rooms, which have amazing views of the curve in the river. Yes, the pool at the Westin is small and not that great but the view from their rooftop pool is amazing! Everything else at the hotel exceeded our expections.
For me, what makes a hotel "safe" are ones that are in very busy areas, not off the beaten path, not even by a few blocks because if it gets late and you still need to get back to your hotel, there are some areas that would make me uncomfortable. As for location, anything smack in the middle of the FQ, close to or on Canal St (in the area by the Westin, Marriott, Sheraton), hotels on Poydras (close to Harrah's casino)and on Convention Center Blvd but toward Poydras are your best bet. You want to stay close to street car lines, people, and businesses/restaurants that stay open late.

I have never stayed there so cannot comment on the hotel but every time I pass this hotel while in the FQ, I think, "This location is ideal". We stayed at the Quality Inn Suites on O'Keefe St, ranked No 10 of New Orleans Hotel on Trip Advisor. I've personally had great experiences with the Queen Crescent, on Camp St. The rooms are clean and comfortable and every time I book a trip, they seem to have the lower rates for the area I'm looking at.
Check Starwood loyality programs..Sometime they have great deals..ie: 1st night regular price 2nd night your birthyear.4 nights for 3 etc!!! In LA they commented they had never had a guest for 31 dollars a night, I was their firat and I was upgraded also as a member. So 149$ and 31$ equalled 180 US dollars. Pretty good for LAX, breakfast and a shuttle both ways.
I have stayed at the Place d'Arms, and it is a good hotel. They have a nice courtyard with a pool and it is a family-friendly sort of place, so it is a good choice with kids. If you could get rooms that open onto the courtyard, that would be ideal with a group since it would make it easy to hang out together in the courtyard.
The location is top notch - on a reasonably quite side street, but just a half block from Jackson Square, which is the center of the FQ. You are not on Bourbon Street, so you won't have the insanity there - actually it is just the first several blocks of Bourbon on the Canal St side of the FQ that are the crazy parts. The central location makes sightseeing very easy and also easy to go back to the rooms if someone is tired, needs a break, wants to drop off some shopping and then rejoin the group. The only caveat about location is that if you have a room facing the street, you will hear garbage trucks in the early morning hours - a courtyard short term accommodation in dublin ireland facing room would be fine though if you want to avoid the noise.

Glad to hear the positive comments on the Place d'Arms as I just booked 3 nights there in April. Also got the courtyard room as I figured it might be quieter than the French Quarter facing rooms. BUT, I always travel with my ear plugs just in case. Only hope there won't be a bunch of noisy kids running around without surpervision!!!
When we stayed at the Place d'Armes, we were there for almost a week, at the beginning of summer - prime time for a family trip to NOLA because the kids are out of school, but the weather isn't quite unbearable yet. So there were a fair number of kids at the hotel, but I don't remember anyone being out of hand. As a child-free person myself, I tend to notice loud kids - I guess because I haven't built up the immunity to it that parents must if they are to survive their children's childhood with their sanity intact But I don't remember any issues with loud kids at this hotel.
In general, I don't think NOLA lends itself to unsupervised children anyway. short term accommodation in dublin ireland With all of the dire warnings about crime, I don't think most parents are lax in their supervision of children, even those parents that would let their kids run wild at an AI in Cancun or someplace.
We also booked at the Place d'Armes arriving St. Patrick's Day, courtyard facing room with windows, the rates are very good on weekdays. Be advised there are rooms which have no windows at all, some can handle it, not DH and I.

You can also take kids of any age to the Preservation Hall jazz concerts in the FQ which would be a great introduction to the music there and has so much history attached to it as well.
