The King's Road restaurant adds a special Icelandic beer, Viking, to the drinks menu alongside a selection of wine and regular beers, and home-made milkshakes created with Icelandic ice-cream.
Bobby Chinn, a New Zealand-born chef who already has two successful restaurants in Vietnam - Restaurant Bobby Chinn in Saigon and Hanoi - opened his first London restaurant, The House of Ho in Soho on 6th January 2014. Described as a restaurant with "real potential" by Tom Parker Bowles, who highlighted a "magnificent wodge of apple-smoked pork belly" for special praise, this "resolutely Vietnamese" venue offers a menu of traditional dishes from Vietnam where Bobby has lived since 1996, but given his own twist developed from his travels around the world. Born in New Zealand to a Chinese father and Egyptian mother, Bobby was educated in England and lived in the States for several years so he certainly has plenty of international experience to draw on when it comes to culinary invention. The atmosphere at this 90-seat restaurant on Old Compton Street will be "fun" and "informal" with moderate prices.
Back in the sixties the Giaconda Cafe at 9 Denmark Street was where David Bowie met his first backing group, The Lower 3rd. Famous as the hangout of music legends Bowie, Boland The Kinks, La Giaconda next to Tin Pan Alley, maine bed and breakfasts was relaunched in January 2014 by Australian chef Paul Merrony and his wife Tracey Petersen, who have also been involved in Flat White and Milk Bar for years. Well known for its live music as well as the bowling lanes, the original has been hailed by Rolling Stone as "one of the most incredible places on earth," and Adele, Kanye West and Elvis Costello have all played at the NYC venue. Rosewood is renowned for designing its hotels according to location and the Holborn Dining Room's nod to Britain comes in the form of mini milk bottles as vases and custard vessels, banquettes made to look like park benches, and seat covers in London bus red. The menu, overseen by Executive Chef Lee Bull, includes traditional British dishes such as lamb chops, corned beef hash and hock coq pudding, all made from the finest locally sourced ingredients. And with former Ivy Head Chef Des McDonald, whose first restaurant was The Fish Chip Shop in Islington, at the realm, the fish and chips served with mushy peas is one of the obvious menu highlights. High tea is also available, with a selection of sandwiches, Welsh rarebit, maine bed and breakfasts cream tea and a daily changing cake menu.
