Chris Froome dominated the Tour de France in a way that we haven t seen in years, taking three stages and winning his first yellow jersey by the largest margin in 16 years. Froome hotels barcelona centers crushed his rivals in the mountains and in the Tour s two individual time trials , building himself a large advantage that carried the Kenyan-born Briton through days when support from his Team Sky teammates was not quite as solid as it should have been. Since beginning the season, Froome has won the Tour of Oman, the Criterium International, the Tour of Romandie, the Criterium du Dauphine, and the Tour de France, making him without a doubt the sport s most complete stage racer. And perhaps hotels barcelona centers most importantly, Froome has now put to rest any lingering doubts as to whether he was truly deserving of Team Sky s support throughout the season, a season in which 2012 Tour champion Bradley Wiggins has struggled to regain the form he displayed last year. Team Sky belongs to Chris Froome hotels barcelona centers now, and anyone hoping to win the 2014 Tour de France will have to get past him to do it.
When Nairo Quintana defeated Andrew Talansky to win the Tour de l Avenir (a shorter version of the Tour de France for riders hotels barcelona centers under the age of 23) in 2010, there were some who wondered if the sport was about to welcome its latest and perhaps greatest Colombian mountain dynamo. hotels barcelona centers After finishing second hotels barcelona centers overall and winning the white jersey as the Tour s Best Young Rider, the polka-dot jersey as the Tour s King of the Mountains, and a stage atop the Tour s final summit finish, it looks as if the early speculation about Quintana s future greatness is justified. Quintana is a focused, committed rider who comes from a pipeline of Colombian talent that looks ready to flood the European peloton with tough, modest, hotels barcelona centers and tenacious young riders. Colombians have now finished second in both of the season s first two Grand Tours (Team Sky s Rigoberto Uran was the runner-up at May s Tour of Italy), and men such as Carlos Betancur, Sergio Henao, and Darwin Atapuma look ready to join them at the top of the sport.
After a 2012 Tour debut in which he failed to win a stage or finish the race, Kittel and his Argos-Shimano team dominated the Tour this year with four wins. Kittel s Stage 1 victory gave him the yellow jersey for a day, but his win on the Champs-Elysees was perhaps his most impressive victory, in that he had to make it all the way to Paris in order to take it. The win capped Kittel s terrific sophomore Tour de France and has many wondering if the race might be on the verge of crowning a new sprint king.
The young Garmin-Sharp rider came to his first-ever Tour de France not quite knowing what to expect. While he was upset that hesitation in the finale of Stage 14 cost him a possible chance for a stage win, he rode consistently and strong in the race's final week to climb to 10th overall. Most impressive: his sixth place on the final summit finish, where he crossed the line just ahead of Alberto Contador. With seventh at last year's Vuelta, second at spring's Paris-Nice, and now a top 10 in his first Tour de France, Talansky confirmed he is going to be a talent hotels barcelona centers to watch for years to come.
Three weeks ago, the Australian WorldTour team was the target of jokes after its bus got stuck under the finish-line scaffolding on Stage 1. But that's a mere footnote hotels barcelona centers now after its superlative first week: two stage wins and three days in yellow with two riders, including a historic first as Daryl Impey became the first rider from Africa to don the maillot jaune.
A team known more for its success in the spring Classics, hotels barcelona centers Belgium s Omega Pharma-Quick-Step squad has traditionally not made a huge impression at the Tour de France. But this year, they had plenty to cheer about as the team won four stages with three riders and came close to winning several more. While Mark Cavendish was certainly disappointed with only two stage victories, Tony Martin dominated the Tour s first time trial and Tour debutante hotels barcelona centers Matteo Trentin took a surprise victory in Stage 14. And while the team did not come to the race with a true GC leader, by the end of it, it might have found one in Poland s Michal Kwiatkowski. The 23- year-old quickly emerged as one of the Tour s best young surprises, wearing the white jersey hotels barcelona centers for several days and finishing his first Tour just outside the top 10 with little hotels barcelona centers GC support. Assuming the team fixes its lead-out problems for Mark Cavendish (expect an announcement about the signing of Cav s former setup man, Mark Renshaw), the Belgian superteam s Tour future looks very bright.

- I'm happy to see that cycling is progressively recovering from this dopers' image. It's getting cleaner and still moving people! hotels barcelona centers why are you commenting here ;) why are millions of people following on TV?
- Chris Froome: yeah.. He killed the suspense ;) To be fair we still had to wait until the last day when Joaquim Rodriguez et Nairo Quintana pushed Alberto Contador out of the podium!! And remember how much Froome did suffer in the Alpe d'Huez.
If you're picking Froome as the top winner from the TdF, shouldn't Wiggins be one of the losers? hotels barcelona centers After all, Sky was his team last year and until his injury, one of the great dramas of 2013 was whether Sky would devolve into Astana with Armstrong and Contador. Whither Wiggins now? My guess is he goes to Omega Pharma QuikStep to be the GC contender they've ached for, and give Kwiatkowski another year or so of seasoning.
Andy Schleck was always shown dropping away on the climb or out of the back of the peloton. He still came surprisingly high in the GC on the other hand. Fuglsang is another, he seemed heading for a career of "What if?" scenarios yet he had his best Grand Tour finish so far. If Valverde had not had the mechanical - it could have been a totally different story, for him and Movistar.
I picked Quintana for my fantasy team after his performance in the Catalyuna, and only wish I had picked Costa as well. Up to Valverde's mechanical, the team rode hellbent for leather and was really impressive, giving Sky all it could handle. I keep thinking, if only...if only Valverde had just swapped bikes until the team car could catch up, if only Quintana had waited a kilometer or two on the Ventoux....
Their willingness to attack at any opportunity, is really refreshing. In a way it is a shame that the organisers do not stick to the regulations. Like the time, a few years ago when Cavendish was rampaging in the sprints. The mountain stage - they pushed the pace, possibly to get him elimanated hotels barcelona centers on a Time Penalty. hotels barcelona centers Sadly, hotels barcelona centers they were so successful - they isolated about a 1/4 of the peloton, so everyone was reinstated. The pace they set on the front, when everyone was hoping for a quiet day - people being shelled out of the back with 110 km's to go. Great viewing...
