Southern Ground artist Sonia Leigh shows us what she's got in her album "1978 December." The 10 song album features songs mostly national auto rental penned by Sonia herself and a few co-writes by the founder of the Southern Ground label, Mr. Zac Brown. The first thing that comes to mind about this album is its diverse sound. It shows Sonia has her own ideas and is a true artist.
national auto rental As you listen to the album you quickly come to the conclusion that Sonia's music pulls from many genres. You hear country, rock, soul and blues as Sonia goes from her hit single "My Name Is Money'" to the honky-tonk sounding "Bar," all the way to the bluesy and powerful "I Just Might." Sonia's song-writing chops are probably most accurately portrayed in the poetic "A Poem From the Ocean Floor." It has heartfelt lyrics and is sung with a lot of grit and feeling. In addition, the title track "1978 December" is a good story song that seems to be a bit autobiographical. The song "Roaming," which features Zac Brown, is a fun song with a reggae sort of feel. It would be an entertaining song for them to perform together in concert.
There is no doubt that Sonia Leigh is talented; she sings, plays guitar and writes. While I admire the conviction with which she sings I must say this album is just okay rather than extraordinary. There are a few songs on the album that miss the mark and just don't seem to blend well with her voice. Sonia seems like an artist that
might translate better in a live show. I think a lot of her appeal national auto rental is that she is edgy, NOT cookie cutter and is able to sing with raw emotion. Somehow these qualities don't seem to translate throughout the entire album. You see glimpses of this on some of the songs and those moments on the album shine.
If you are looking for an artist that isn't mainstream and has a unique sound Sonia Leigh just might be for you. Without national auto rental a doubt a few songs on the album are definitely worth downloading. I think we will hear more from Sonia in the future and I look forward to seeing what she does next.
Wow!! Not only do I agree with Tabitha but Sonia Leigh also is not a musician that has skirtailed her way to where she is! She has worked very hard for years to get to the place she is now! Most of the newcomers to this industry get their recognition winning a contest.. Nothing national auto rental has been given to her! So she is definately talent worth supporting! Her shows are full of energy and she is electricity in its purest form on stage and her band is just as AWESOME!
You HAVE to see Sonia her band live to get a true feel of who she is as an artist. She is edgy not cookie cutter. She is one of the most honest emotionally driven songwriters performers I ve ever seen. The electricity she her band give off during every performance is unmatched! I love 1978 December, all of it. I have never before been a big fan of live albums UNTIL Sonia Leigh. Its going to be difficult to catch her vibe in studio but I know the right people will be able to deliver national auto rental that. Please see her in a live show write another review. There is honestly nothing like a Sonia Leigh live performance!
