Spent my birthday in August in Lahaina, a great little town on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Had a fun-filled week of exploring the island, snorkeling, relaxing on the beach, and visiting the shops and restaurants on and around Front Street. One of the highlights of the trip was an evening at Mama s Fish House . What gorgeous views of the sunset, amazingly tropical grounds, and delicious food. Mama s is about a 45 minute drive outside of Lahaina, toward the airport. There are Palm Trees everywhere and a beautiful sandy beach right in front of the restaurant.
rental cars at lax airport We rented snorkeling gear, beach chairs, and a sun umbrella at Snorkel Bob s in Lahaina and checked out some local spots. Really enjoyed Mokule'ia Beach which is north of Lahaina. Amazingly vibrant blue water. Could sit on the beach and enjoy the view for hours. We also saw several large sea turtles while snorkeling!
Another beach we tried for snorkeling was Papalaua Wayside Beach, just south of Lahaina.  It s great because it is a long, narrow beach lined with lots of trees. Just pick a spot along the beach, pull right off the highway, and you re there! The trees provide a feeling of privacy and lots of shade.
A fun way to spend a day on Maui is driving the Road to Hana. There were so many breathtaking vistas along the way, but this black sand beach located at Wai anapanapa State Park was one of my favorites. Love the contrast of the black sand against the white and blue ocean!
Also loved spending evenings in the walkable downtown village of Lahaina. We stayed at the Aina Nalu which is just a few blocks from the Front Street and harbor area. So easy to walk into town to enjoy the lively restaurants, bars, and shops.

I think the most amazing evening in Maui was the Dinner Cruise . Being out on the water made the sunset rental cars at lax airport even more spectacular. The Hawaiian singer/storyteller (standing behind me in this photo) was excellent, and the food was delicious. Very romantic!
Okay, I think that sums up the most of the trip. But just wanted to include some photos of the Aina Nalu Condo we stayed in. Perfect location for walkability, and beautiful Hawaiian atmosphere. Really loved the salt water pool too.
I don t know if this is always the case, but while we were in Maui we were approached by several rental cars at lax airport timeshare agencies and invited to attend presentations and offered discount vouchers. Out of curiosity, we gave it a try. The presentation was not short, but the presenters were knowledgeable and friendly. We did not end up buying a timeshare, but did get vouchers that practically paid for the dinner cruise rental cars at lax airport and snorkel gear. Quite a pleasant surprise!
